Looks to be a good tourney. Nice bracket. Good Luck JC and SC!
The only thing that has bothered me for years is the fact that Pike Co. gets FOUR teams in every year. Plus it is played in Pike Co.
SIX teams in Pike Co. and FOUR get in. HALF the bracket.
FIVE teams in the 57th and TWO get in.
Something needs to be done. Not fair for the 57th and 58th.

I think JC will have a cake walk to the finals.. theres playing there best ball of the year at the right time.. Pikeville and Betsy Lane game in the Semi's will be a good one if it happens..
02-26-2011, 01:49 PM
Yeah, I like JC chances of making it to the Finals. I dont know who will come out of the bottom half, that Pikeville/Betsy Layne should be a dandy bearing no 1st round upsets.
02-26-2011, 01:58 PM
16th Region officials will be on this one.

Johnson Central in final, don't know about other bracket, but it still could be anyone's game. My eagles, IMO are front runner due to the amount of points they are putting opponents away with. Could be some tear jerkers for some teams this week, as some talented seniors will see their season come to an end. Good Luck everyone and come to play or go home!

Sorry about the other districts luck but consoildation has wiped out all of the other Pike county schools, and as for it being played in Pike Co. name me a better place to have it.
Other than that it looks like a good draw for a couple of teams but I think that JC and BL will meet in the finals. Wait this is March Madness anything can happen on any given night. Just ask the the boys from Pond Creek!

Don't feel too sorry for the 58th, because they vote how Pike County wants them to vote on everything. The 57th is not fair with 5 teams and only two gets in but that is life. There have been proposal about teams being moved around but other districts don't want that to happen. Half the money from the regional tournament stays in Pike Co, why would they want to change that.

I'd like to see Betsy Layne and Johnson Central in the finals. Could be an intresting matchup.

I really don't care. Johnson Central....PBurg? It just seems like this a Pike Co. Invitational Tourny.

Would not matter if it were at Rupp, Pike County has 4 teams in and would get half anyway.
There is no way any High School gym in the state could be a better venue for the Regional than the Expo. Neutral floor and neutral refs. The 16th plays at Morehead State and all the schools arent from Rowan County, same with the regional at EKU but everyone isnt from Madison County. Your logic doesnt hold water.

I'm from Pike County but I agree they aren't a better place to have it than the Expo. It sets our region apart and also helps the team that makes it to Rupp...Shooting with that backdrop helps... As far as the 59th and 60th, they've tried moving SC to 60 and a Floyd County school to 59th....But SC don't want to move and Floyd wants to stay together..
As for the games, I think this will be a wild tournament. BL and JC are two best teams I think and should meet in finals; but I don't think they will. The region is set up for a sleeper team to make a run this year, I expect a wild unpredictible tournament.

The venue is actually fine.
I just don't like the idea of the 5 team District and TWO three team Districts. It really isn't fair to the 57th.
IMO, It should be a 6 team District where three teams get in and three teams from the 57th get in.
OR make the Runners up from the 59th and 60th play each other to get in and make the two Semi final losers of the 57th play each other to get in. That would be fair IMO.
Just a thought.

The 57th district consists of 4 different counties, so no matter how you do it prople will still complain.
Pike county has 6 teams, so they deserve more spots.

I think Shelby Valley will give JC all they want and will probably beat them,

My Final 4 looks like this South Floyd ,Johnson Cent, Pikeville, Betsy Layne

Johnson Central vs Betsy Layne is what I see the championship match-up being.

Sure my logic does hold water. Pike gets 4 out of 6 teams in in the tournament. Regardless if you agree with me or not, which I really could care less, the fact of the matter is Pike County gets 4 out of 6 teams in and they will get half the money to stay in Pike County. Plus, all of the money that might be spent on restaurants and gas. As far as neutral floor, that is somewhat true. 3 out of 8 teams have not played in the Expo Center at all this year and two of them are Pike County teams but Pikeville has played 4 games there, Shelby Valley has played three games there. 7 for the 59th District, the rest of the field - 6 games (B.L. 3, S.C. 2 and S.F.1). But I am sure you being a Pike person that this won't hold water either.

listen there is no complaint here..theres one place in this region to have the tournament and its the expo its by far the best venue it just happens to be in pike count and as far as the pike county teams being in the tournament they deserve to be there i mean who should get in? magoffin county? lawrence county? this is stupid the best 8 teams in the region imo are represented in the tournament

It's not Pike County's fault that their districts are the way they are, but i do agree that there needs to be some changes made. Whatever team wins the regular season in those two districts automatically makes it to the regional tournament without ever playing a game in the district tournament. I think teams should have to play at least one game before getting into the district finals.

We absolutely agree on this. That was one of my points, there is 6 teams in Pike Co, 4 get in and 2 without ever playing a game in the tournament. Now we all know that the 57th is down this year but that is not typical. So, we can't look at this in that way because there has been years in the past where subpar Pike Co. teams get in but that is totally different. I totally agree about it not being right for teams to get in the 15th region tournament without ever playing a district tournament game. Theoratically, there could be a year when several teams in the 57th district are good and someone end up in a fourth place game that might have to win 2 games just to get into the regional tournament. It should be even footing on that level. No way should you have two districts that have two teams that get in without playing a tournament game and you have one district that could have a team have to play two games to get in. I am sure some people are going to hound on this year, but that is not what I am saying. But, if we want to bring up this year what about a Paintsville team that has a better record than Shelby Valley that lost in a one point game to Sheldon Clark in the semi finals. If I am not mistaken, Paintsville defeated Shelby Valley, East Ridge and lost to Pike Central by only 3. Everyone wanted to say Magoffin Co and Lawrence Co, but they forgot about Paintsville.

Really better go back and check Paintsville's record against these teams and overall record. Paintsville lost by one to a good Sheldon Clark team in the semi finals of the 57th district. You wanted to mention Magoffin Co and Lawrence Co but you didn't touch Paintsville did you. Argue all you want you are not going to change my mind and I am not going to change your mind.:ChairHit:

First off. I am NOT complaining about not getting in. We had our chance.
Do I think we're just as good as most the teams in it? YES
But, that is besides the point.
I am talking as a whole. Look at the Girls side of it. Three of the better teams in the Region (SC, MC & PHS) and JC ended up not being to shabby, were in the 57th. The lady Tigers alone beat 5 (3 of 4 of the Pike Co. Teams) of the 8 teams in the tourney and almost got MC.
I know people from Pike Co. don't want a change. And if I lived there I wouldn't either. But, if the shoe were on the other foot...Pike Co. watching 2 schools get cake walks to Region. Then I bet you wouldn't like it very much either.
I tell ya what. Next season...let's see if the KHSAA won't move Pburg and let's do this:
57th (MC,SC,LC)
58th (JC,PHS,PBurg)
59th (BL,AC,SF)
60th (PHS,PHS,PCC,BHS,ER,SV)
Now how does that look? Looks GOOD to me...LOL!
