Besides already having a job the talent level at Cville is way down now and I doubt Cobb will make that leap of faith

They have only won a handful of games in the past 15 years. Cobb coached there before in the late 90's and had success compared other coaches. Overall, as good as he did, his record @ KCC was just around .500

The good thing about Cville is they play in a district that isn't very good so Cobb could take that jobing knowing a district title is something that could be accomplished every year. Bull you may know for sure but I don't think Cville has but about 15 returning players.

I am not real familar with C'ville, is there much talent in the area, or do they all go to the county schools?
05-14-2010, 11:13 AM
How soon will this school be closed? Are they really losing enough students that this could happen?

Generals2010 Wrote:I am not real familar with C'ville, is there much talent in the area, or do they all go to the county schools? It is a numbers game in regards to CHS. They have athletes, but not in the numbers needed to win consistently. Campbellsville is growing outward and away from the CHS school district, thus hurting the population and enrollment of CHS. CHS has approx. 360 students

Well, if Cobb left the Knott County job without ever coaching a game this fall, it wouldn't be the first time he'd done that, lol.
Seriously, though, I don't think he would do it this time. If he didn't try to get the Middlesboro job, I'm pretty sure he'll pass on Campbellsville, too.

Campbellsville High school was home to Chuck Smith and Perry Thomas in the 1990's from 1990-1999 they won 74 games and finished .500% every season but 2. And that was in the time we had four classes and class A was alot better than it is today.

Campbellsville was also a Class A school in the old 4 Class system from 2000-2006 (seven seasons), and didn't have anywhere near the success as they had in the same classification the decade before. I think they had one regional final appearance in that time, or was that in 2007, their first year in class 1A with the 6 class system? Whomever the new coach will be, I wish the best of luck too. Personally, I think you will be seeing a merger in the next 5 years and maybe sooner than that.

True that! I watched the '99 Eagles absolutely dominate Danville at Danville that year. And then the last week of the regular season they thumped Somerset at Somerset by 30.
Then two weeks later, Somerset came to Campbellsville and ended the Eagles' season in a huge upset.
Go figger.

Its a shame that the talent level is there but no numbers. Doesn't players have the option of going to C'Ville even though it is out of the district? If they live close to the district, do they not have the option?
05-17-2010, 09:17 AM
I think when Perry Thomas left alot of the work ethic and disipline left the program as well. I agree with Bull that the population is moving outward as many new subdivison have been built outside the city limits.
There has been the talk of a merger for a longtime, but I think a merger would have a negative impact on football IMO. merger the schools will more than likely place them in 4A which is a far tougher class than 3A, and besides the many politics that would come into I don't think they would have very many numbers.

Bull what else have you heard about the Cville High School coaching search?

I heard they had interviews the other day, but haven't heard any names come out of it yet.

Pigskinman53 Wrote:I've been hearing the name Jay Cobb? Is it any truthProbably not, he is from the mountains and KCC is finally giving the coaching staff some assistants to help him out. He coached @ KCC in the mid-late 90's and has friends in that area I believe. Jay Cobb would be a great hire, but I think he is already taken off the board.

Thats what I was thinking too, but people have been saying Mike Deaton and Cobb are good freinds and have a good connection.

I remember those two games very well. I thought Somerset was looking really good that year beating Campbellsville and then Danville who had both beaten them in the regular season, then we go into Hancock Co. and get dominated by Atwell I think it was. If memory serves me right I believe Campbellsville was #1 in Class A that year going into the playoffs.
That district, for Class A, was one of the toughest around in the mid-late 90's & early 00's. Harrodsburg when they were still really strong, Campbellsville and Somerset when they were top teams in the class, and Danville back when they were still Danville. Heck even Metcalfe and Green Co. were both very good teams.

He's actually from out West, but I agree I don't think he will leave KCC. If he wanted to go out West he would have stayed at Henderson. Plus like you mentioned, he has ties to the area and is well respected in the mountains. Out west, not so much.hh:

I know that Lawson has talked to at least 1 school board member, and I have no doubt if he wants it, it's his. If he doesn't want it, I'd look for someone with ties to CU...but definitely not Turpin.

Just looked at the schedule and Campbellsville opens up against Breathitt County August 21st. Good that I will be able to see my home town team close to home, bad to see Campbellsville get beaten badly.

So what's the talk around town. Everyone has been kind of quiet. I heard they had some interviews last week, but that could be wrong. Is Deaton going to make another great decision and bring another coach in for 1 year?
05-24-2010, 10:35 PM
Just curious, is Campbellsville having trouble finding a coach or have they not even held any interviews or what? It just seems a tradition rich program like Campbellsville would be able to get someone good in I was just wondering if they were having trouble or if something else is delaying the hire. Also, who is handling summer activities so far, you would think their summer routine would have or at least should have started already.

They lost a lot from last season and they are already going to struggle IMO, now with a new coach and system, the Breathitt game may be over by halftime. even with a "down" Breathitt team, but a "down" Breathitt team is still better than a majority of other teams on their best years.

Cville did lose alot of talent from last season, and bringing in a new coach and a new system will not help the kids. I think the timing of the leave by Chappell was unfair to the kids and the school system IMO. Looking at the amount of talent Cville has and the numbers I would think it would be about 3-4 before there decent again.
