Campbellsville High School Looking for Head Coach
#1
News for you guys in EKY. Jason Chappell and his family have decided to return home to the mountains after one successful season in Campbellsville per topix in Campbellsville. He is a nice guy and seems to be a pretty good coach, where if anywhere do you think he may end up?

Where are they moving too? Middlesboro or Hazard. Im friends with his wife and she is from Bell Co.
#3
Why is he leaving so late in the game...makes it hard to find a quality head coach this time a year.

I know that, I live here. I asked if they were moving back to her family in Middlesboro or his family in Hazard. He would make a GREAT Assistant Coach at Middlesboro under Randy Frazier.

Jason will be coaching at M'boro next season.

I find it weird that Chappell would leave this late in the year, and really has put Cville in a tough spot. On top of the timing Cville is losing LOTS of talent as well so the job will not be very appealing to coaches.

As for the sucessful season goes they did finish with a winning record but they only beat one team with a winning record, Berea. And they did remove Lexington Christian, Marion Co, and Danville from the schdule this season as well. Rumors that I've heard said he is going to take an assitants job at Middlesboro. Don't know if its any truth to it because I find it strange that a guy would leave from being a Head Coach to be an assistant

When he took that job last year I said he would not be there long. 2 years at PCC, 2 years at South Laurel and now 1 year at C-ville. I am not saying he isnt a good coach or person, just that he doesnt stick in 1 spot for long. Will be hard to get another HC job with that track record.

What is Camplesville High going to do about a coach.....The job has to be posted for 30 days....which would put them mid June before they could even start to doing interviews...That would mean a Coach would probably be hired during the dead period and only have under a month of practice to meet, and teach his kids before the season starts........OUCH!!!

OK spoke to his wife Leigh Ann Chappell this morning. She said that Middlesboro and Bell Co both have offered Jason a offensive cord job. She said all there doing is trying to find a house in Middlesboro right now. He is still deciding between both schools as of this morning.
#11
Campbellsville could always hire Middlesboro's old coach Kenny Roark? He is still looking for a HC job.
#12
Does Coach Hilton not call his own offense? I was under the impression that he did. If so...I high doubt that one of the greatest coaches in KY history would just give up his play calling duties, when he arguably is gonna have his greatest year(talent wise) in Bell Co. history.

I was told this past season that Frazier called most of the plays. I was like you, I thought Hilton called his own plays. A assistant coach told me Frazier called 70% of the plays last couple of seasons. So who knows.

Forgot to say this too. The HC job at Middlesboro came down to Randy and Jason. They were the final two until the announcement. So Middlesboro showed high regards to Jason imo. Most likely Jason will be at Middlesboro this coming season helping to rebuild that program back.

i believe someone said that Breathitt County was trying to get him

At Cville he ran a spread offense pass and ran the ball around 50/50 according to the stats, but the games I seen they passed a whole lot more. Bell Co. pass:run ratio is about 1:5.

There is only one off cord job at Bell Co at that is Dudley Hilton so that is false.

You are wrong and don't know anything about Bell Co football. Dudley Hilton has called the plays for 36 seasons why would he change now. He may call some of the plays that assistants mention to him from time to time but no way 70%.

Just going by what was told to me, just like I stated.

Wrong information.

You can take all the assistants together and they didn't call .07% of the plays any season. Trust me!!!

Wrong, no one calls off. plays on Log Mtn. but the old mn himself.

Instead of talking about Bell County, could we talk about who will be the new coach at Campbellsville? I've heard that Brad Lawson from Graves Co. has inquired (after having turned it down two times before). Any other names floating around?

Amped 88 Wrote:Wrong information.

Just like I said earlier I was going by someone's info and not mine. She did indeed correct herself earlier and told me a Assistant Job at Bell Co and a Off Cord position at Middlesboro.

She also said they were moving closer to home for her daughter to be closer to family and church. Also said they had a great job at Campbellsville but this came down to a family thing instead of a coaching decision.

If the reason for leaving is what I hear, it is a good move and I understand completely being a Husband\Father and being from the Mountains. CHS's enrollment and talent is getting to a critical point and eventually CHS will close and merge with TCHS, unfortunately. I like the small school atmosphere and think kids should have the option in schools, but based on the politics of Athletics in TC, CHS will continue to lose kids to the county school system till eventually they are rubbed out completely.

Merger will be the best thing for the community and most importantly, the kids. Campbellsville/Taylor County is too small to split amongst two schools. But, this is probably for a whole different thread.
#27
Considering Turpin resigned at Taylor County, he would be a good fit to move right on in to the position, he is already in the county and is a good coach.
#28
Jason will be the new off. coordinator with middlesboro.. that is a fact not speculation. just got the word yesterday so no one else has to speculate. 100% true...
#29
I really don't blame Chappell for deciding to leave, I just think he kind of tied the hands of Cville by waiting to do it this late. I can understand wanting to move back home to be close to family. He seems to be a decent guy and around an average football coach IMO, being an assistant maybe more suited for him besides being a head coach.

As for the Cville/TC merger from what I'm hearing it is getting closer and closer, but I to agree that parents/kids should have a choice of where they want to send their kids. I think politics will play a MAJOR role if/when the school system merge. Depending on who is in charge I think several parents will feel their kids will not get the playing time they deserve.

Is there any way Jay Cobb would be interested in this job? I keep hearing his name around town because of his relationship with the superintendent.
