How's offshore drilling working out for conservatives now?
#1
Conservatives want offshore drilling in the Gulf. What do you think now? Is it worth it. I also notice that this Gulf oil rig explosion and resulting deaths and oil leak gone wild, is going eerily quiet by the usual political and news thread starters on this forum.

All I can say is "DRILL BABY DRILL". Do you think this is the first oil spill? Do you think it will be the last? At least we are trying to clean up the spill, while other countries, drilling near our boarders wouldn't bother.

Tell me what are our options? We either import all of our oil from others or stop driving altogether which do you want?

As I recall you advocate nuclear power what about 3 mile island? Should we drop all plans to build nuclear plants?

We should learn from accidents such as this one, so hopefully they will never happen again or at least not as severe.

As for being quiet about this matter or UBB, no one has a clue about the cause of the explosion. Let's see what caused the explosions first.

I agree. On a related note, I passed a car wreck on the way home. We need to ban cars too, when are the conservatives gonna realize that wrecks will continue to happen until we ban ALL cars.

It is worth it unless you want your descendants to live in squalor. Prosperous nations and companies can afford to clean up and occasional spill to provide a safe, comfortable living for their citizens.

Spain was supposed to be a leader in green energy but its unemployment rate is now 20 percent and Standard and Poor's reduced its AAA debt rating to AA in January. After Portugal, Spain is the next leading candidate to become the EU's next Greece - and its decision to pursue an expensive and impractical wind energy program is a contributing factor. Many of Spain's windmills are now just rusting away.

I love offshore drilling. I think we need a lot more of it.

The world is replete with history after history of people who did not define "squalor" and "abundance" as we do. In fact, a rather significant figure in Christianity said abundance doesn't have anything to do with having a bunch of possessions. Another "biggie" said that he had food, clothing, and shelter and that he would be content with that. I'm a fair scales capitalist; I'm not a secular materialist.

What is the purpose of this thread? This makes zero sense and is hardly an argument for or against Offshore drilling! Liberals wanted National Health care covereage - children are still dieing because of no healthcare service's today. Hmm, let's blame in the healthcare bill!

And none of this makes any sense!:popcorn:

Will it take the blackening with oil of the entire gulf coast for the "Spill Baby Spill" idiots to get the picture?

Lol - do you even know what you are talking about? There is 50 times more natural oil drifts from natural secretion into the ocean per year than what man has created in a lifetime. I love to see those who are so educated in a subject just throw our statements with ZERO research!

Let's face it we will always need oil, we may be able to cut back a little, but never cut oil out completely. Enviro's don't want anyone to drill on land or at sea, so what do you suggest we do. Do you want the USA to always be dependent of foreign oil where envirnmental laws fail to exist?

I was thinking the same.
Oil is a natural product It "leaks" all over. Even without man's help this spill would dissipate

You are dead on. Oil leaks naturally into the environment at a rate that far exceeds what man can create. My issue with this is that those who want to make a political statement asking if the oil spill makes those of a politcal affiliation happy. I could care less what side of the fence anyone stands on the offshore drilling, but to say that the spill was a result of political ideology is senseless.

Show me a natural occuring oil spill that produces an oil slick like the one we have now?

I bet you're a litter bug! Just because you see a beer can on the side of the road doesn't mean it's ok for you to toss another beside it as you drive home from work.

Just because there are oil spills occurring naturally doesn't mean its ok to have man made ones!

Just because the earth has volcanos doesn't mean we can start creating new volcanos!
#17
Just because one accident doesn't mean we should stop drilling either.

 Wow, that should have ended any debate right there! Pretty compelling to the argument! :argue:

How it's working for you I seen gas at $3.00 a gallon today?

That seems to be more of a result of the fisticuffs over in "Controversial video of U.S. Army engaging enemy."

OK...How does one go about creating new volcanos?

According to at least one leading Iranian cleric, women showing too much cleavage are responsible for earthquakes. Maybe in the minds of some deep drilling for oil and gas runs the risk of creating lava gushers.

I remember from science class that you need vinegar and a whole lot of baking soda.

Watch The Brady Bunch if you wanna make a volcano!

I agree with alot of this, however, you made the statement other countries drill just miles away from our boarders, however, most of those are in fact american based companies. One bad instance of an American based company (Exon) entered a country back in the late 90s ruining much of the land as well as running of many Native Tribes. Not only that but what before was good drinking water in many of the streams and rivers were contaminated by sludge from the drilling. Exon also refused to clean the area up and is still an ongoing debate while they continue to drill.

These money worshipers will never understand, its useless to discuss anything with them.

They think every opinion contrary to theirs is gibberish, on the fringe, radical, communist, socialist, fascist. If it rots their teeth or destroys their lungs or their hearts and minds in a physical sense, it's ok. As long as it doesn't effect their wallet.

So I guess they all wanna die rich fat and happy. The American Way.

That isn't the American Way.

The soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines people who fought and died in Europe, Africa and the Pacific weren't Rich or Fat. Nor did they sacrifice themselves to defeat Communism and Fascism so Massey Energy and BP could get our friends and family killed using unsafe practices and racking up violation after violation, squandor our resources. All the while making record proffits year after year!

Rich, Fat and Blissful protected in gated communities. That is not the American Way.

No, you are completely off base to the argument of this thread. This thread was designed to be a politcal issue. Contrary to what the gibberish above was is the fact that this is not a Conservative/Liberal issue. This was a man made issue, but it in fact had ZERO to do with a political affiliation. I would venture to say that their is some democrat owneship in that oil rig that exploded and not 100% owned, operated and supported by Texas born presidents.....

Thank you!!

Keep on crying Devil, at least all liberals are consistent in that regard.
