Glad to see Sewell recognized and get the most votes. He had a better season than anyone else on that list, but was punished in the Mr. Basketball race for not winning region.

Also good to see both Ricardo Johnson and Elijah Pittman recognized as first team all state players. Second year in a row for those two and third year in a row both were recognized as first or second team all state.

Congrats to all those who were honored.

Not true. You had the option of voting before postseason began, just as coaches did with Mr. Basketball in regards to Sweet 16.

Unlike the changes to Mr. Basketball voting this year (announcement of dates for when ballots went out and were due, yet changed at last minute), this is the way the CJ has done this for many years.

Well this is from another website, "The reason why Sewell gets the most votes in this is because the Courier Journal polled the coaches at the end of the regular season. Therefore, the coaches didn't get to see the post season play before this was voted on. This is why Justice won Mr. Basketball. The coaches voted on it after the post season was over."

Coaches received Mr. Basketball ballots on Feb. 12, 2010 at 9:14 AM via e-mail. It was due on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 4:00 PM.

It was originally announced that ballots would go out on March 5, but they did not.

You can say it was voted on before or after, but some vote before, some vote after the tournament.

Hope that a distinct schedule is set for the 2010-2011 school year for Mr. Basketball so there is no confusion on this. Just like any college does for their All-American candidates, many high school coaches do things to promote their kids, as they should. The kids deserve promotion. If you announce a certain date the voting, follow along with it.

Just confirmed that ballots for this were due the Friday after the state tournament, not before the postseason started!

Probably because Justice won state and he was in the limelight for a bit longer in his career but I do think on this season alone Sewell's accomplishments were a bit better when you look at what he did against a bunch of top 20 teams.

3 on the first team are Juniors, Knipp, Stenzel and Behanan. 4 on the second team, Zollo, Hickey, Fant, and Fucci. Rumor is that Behanan is going to a prep school. Will we see the 2011 Mr. Basketball from this group?

Has it ever occured that some of the coaches never voted for this all-state team. It doesn't matter who got the most votes. Sewell is on every first team all state and so is Justice. The difference is Justice is Mr. Basketball and very deserving. He will continue to do well at the next level. I hear this stuff about how SV had an easy road to the title. You can only beat the teams that are put in front of you just ask Duke. Same story. But at the end of the day there is a banner hanging in their gym!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good to see Matt Day from Buckhorn on the list. Kind of weird considering that some of the "bigger" programs that are trying to recruit(whoops, we know that doesn't really happen) him love to use the concept that he will never get noticed playing for Buckhorn.

I just don't think that will happen having another Mr. Basketball contender on his team in Robbie Stenzel. I'll say Timmy Knipp for Mr. Basketball. IF he leads Elliott to the Sweet 16 for the 4th time in 5 years.

I'm a UK fan don't get me wrong. Jon Sheyer is a better shooter. Wasn't that the difference this year. He's a winner.

I think you're confusing individual talent/success with team talent/success.

A player can look really good when they have a nice supporting cast.

I haven't confused anything. I said when I saw Justice in the 8th grade that he would be a Mr. Basketball canidate. I told that too two different coaches, one being from Northern KY who coaches in the 8th region. As far as supporting cast yeah Duke had one and so did SV. Are you saying that Ballard, Holmes, Scott Co. didn't or what about Trinity or better yet what about UK who is sending 5 players to the NBA. Thing is winners win that's what they do because of great work ethic and determination. John Wall = Rajon Rondo. Only difference is Tubby wouldn't let Rondo run like that because of style of play. Rondo little better defensively and Wall just a tad better shooter. That's my opionion that and no one elses. I'm not confused I know talent when I see it just some on here still cannot stand it that Justice got Mr. Basketball. The college game has always been the same in that sound teams who can shoot and defend win the championship not athleticism. That's why Justice will be just fine at Louisville for four years. He will suprise all the haters. The pro game is the one that has change to athleticism. :Thumbs:

Statistically speaking I would say Justice and Sewell were pretty even. But I know because Sewell played in the great city of Louisville he played better competition every night so he deserves it. 15th region is weak. So and so on.
I am sure it is a shocker that a kid from Louisville got the most votes from a Louisville paper.
How did the breakdown of the voting go as far as coaches? Who are the coaches that did vote? Any know.

Bottom Line is Justice is Mr. Basketball no matter how many people think different. No matter who has the better college career. It does not matter 20 years from now he will still be listed as Mr. Basketball so accept it and move on.

Something that can never be taken from him, but that doesn't mean he'll be a "legend" outside of EKY as well. See Domonic Tilford. He won the award in 05 and there's probably only a handful of people on here who can tell us what he's doing now.

So you have to be a legend now to earn the award. Who knows what Daymeon Fishback, Brandon Davenport, Elton Scott, or Ross Neltner are doing right now. They won the award and I doubt people are wondering what they are doing know either.

Point is, Sewell did the same thing ALL YEAR against the best in the state. Justice had a good sweet 16 against the less competitive bottom bracket and wins the award.

I'm willing to bet that had the voting been done before the sweet 16, Sewell gets the award. Look at how many sweet 16 tourney mvp's (seniors) have won Mr. Basketball over the years and then compare it to how many votes they received for first team all state. You'll be surprised...which goes in to my whole theory that politics are a major factor of who wins Mr. Basketball.

But what did that do for him come state tournament time? Zero because he wasn't there.
