I know Coach Runyon and the Tigers set out to win a Regional title this season, and they're probably feeling pretty down right now...but they've got ALOT to be proud of this season...Coach Runyon has brought big time enthusiasm and excitement to the Tiger program....I think over the next few seasons we'll see some big things from the Tigers...as long as Runyon is involved in anything at Paintsville, it's gonna be a success!
Now, break out the roundballs and let's see the Tigers in another Regional final, a 15th Regional basketball final!!!

Refs seemed somewhat flag happy at times. When they'd get rolling on one team it seem it came in bunches and then they'd be quiet for awhile and then suddenly pick on the other team. Really had no barring on the outcome of this one, though. Paintsville's offense had a few bright spots but for the most part sputtered most of the night. I don't think Freno #10 getting injured changed much on offense except for the fact of not really having a healthy tailback to put in. Freno was hurt, Doderer wasn't 100% and Cantrell #24 had gotten tossed earlier in the game. Paintsville's defense stepped up and played after Somerset put up 14 in a hurry. Newell exploded early in the game and had over 100 at the half. Paintsville seem to come alive and keep him somewhat contained after his first TD. Hats off to Wes Ward #35 he played with a purpose tonight, he had that not 1 person is going to bring me down attitude. Somerset couldn't and didn't stop him, it seemed we did by taking his carries away. Hats off to #5 Kevin Williams as well who sacrificed his body numerous times to make key catches. I'm also very proud of the defense as a whole, the pass defense was good tonight as well as run defense after Newell exploded in the first quarter. On to Somerset, congrats to the Jumpers they came out on top tonight. The blocked field goal return was a key turning point in the game. Not sure why Paintsville tried a field goal, especially after the first XP attempt was blocked? The Jumper linebacker #30 made a heckuva play on defense for that interception and then turned on the jets to out run Pugh down the sidelines. I just got done watching the catch in slow-mo from my WYMT recording, he was getting blocked jumped up swatted the ball with one arm and then brought the other arm over to make the catch. Pugh was not hurt to my knowledge, it seemed to me as if he got nervous in the pocket and when he'd scramble the Jumper defense's speed caught him before he could get anything started. The team that converted turnovers to points won tonight. Thanks to Paintsville seniors, guys good luck in your futures, keep your head up and thanks for the ride this season it's been a blast. Not to my knowledge is it Coach Runyon's first and last football season, I seriously doubt it. He's not acheived his goal, he gave up his assistant baseball job to be able to focus on football after basketball season. I certainly hope it's not his last one, he's going to get better this year was a learning experience for the entire staff. Again congrats to Somerset and Good Luck next week at NCC, bring it home boys.

The Tigers did have opportunities to put more points on the board. In the third quarter Paintsville was down by two and attempted a 30 yard field goal and it was blocked. The Paintsville players from observing didn't know that the Jumpers could advance the ball. It was returned to the Tiger 1 or 2 yard line. The next play Somerset scored, not the Tigers fault. I think it was a bad call especially when the extra point attempt was blocked on the Tigers first TD. Pugh threw an interception late with Paintsville driving, the kid that intercepted it made a heck of a play. Then jetted down the sideline Pugh got a hand on him, and could have pulled the trigger I thought but didn't. Guess you're happy now huh??

It was a great (cold) game... we had plenty of opportunities to create points off turnovers but nothing ever came of it. Congrats to Someset... it was a really good game... Congrats to the Tigers, especially the seniors... it's been a great season and hopefully next season several of you will be either playing or cheering at the Pizza Box fulltime... the fan support was better than I expected too... 62 ppl rode the Pep Bus (we did math too, including the football team, cheerleaders, and pep section, 1/3 of our school was in Somerset) and a lot of the parents came... The Pep Bus came in the parking lot cheering, and they heard us from the other side of the field... Congrats again, Good Luck next season...

Great season Paintsville and congrats to Somerset...good luck to the Jumpers against NCC. I don't see Somerset coming within 20 points to NCC but you never know. I hope Paintsville will be able to continue this success on the football field into next season.

Congrat's on the good season by Paintsville. They played a good game but just made several key tournovers. Good luck next year and good luck on the hardwood for several of the football players.
