I will. Unless they play Valley in the Final Four. If they do, I'm rooting for Valley.

Probably others, but I know Hazard fans and players have been extremely supportive. Calling the boys, wanting t-shirts, etc. That's what 14th region basketball should be about.

Region shouldn't be held at Breathitt. The gym is too small.

If you're saying Breathitt's gym seats 4000 then Powell County's will seat 5000 (Powell's actually seats 3500) and Perry Centrals will seat 6000, which of course it doesn't.
There's no way on earth that Breathitt seats more than 3000. Just counting their number of rolls on each side, I think it was 18 rolls, and the number of people sitting in the seats on each roll the other night in the semifinals, I came out to around 900 on each side (and that was counting as if the seats were all the same width from top to bottom, which they're not due to the entrance steps, the radio seating area, and the shorts rolls at the top of the gym where the bands sit). That equals around 1800 for both sides of the gym combined. Add around 800 more for the two inzones areas (which is being more than generous) and that comes out to about 2600 people in the stands. Now I'll give the benifit of the doubt for the doubters and add a few more to make it 3000, but that's about it.

I respect Coach Holcomb but this region was a disaster. It was a fire trap! Plus the split session was a joke.
Until we have an arena such as Pikeville or Corbin the region should rotate between Knott and Perry. END OF STORY.

Neither one should be allowed to host IMO

If a gym can't seat at least 3,500 and handle the parking with ease then they shouldn't be in the rotation. The only 3 schools in the region that qualfies under those guidelines are Knott, Perry, and Powell (and Powell barely meet the 3500 limit).
Probably the best idea is just hold it at Perry Central every year. That gym has great parking and you can get out of their lots with ease after the games (unlike at Knott), they seat 4500 so there would be no need for the aggravating split sessions, and most importantly, they are about as centrally located as you can get in the region.

Letcher Centrals can hold as much as Powell but Powell does have a better parking setup. If you go to one site, you need to rotate districts as the hosts. You do not need the same people every year running the regional tournament. This will only cause allegations of political shenanigans in regards to officiating and anything else the wild imagination would conjur up. The positive thing about split sessions is that it allows all the fans to set in their designated area. If you had two large fan bases on the same side of the gym playing in separate games. If the school with the large fan base in the first game wins, most of them stay to see who they will play. This in turn causes the fans from the second team to have to sit all over the gym as they cannot all sit together.

Make it a 4 year rotation and allow the members of each district to choose the site within their district that they want to hold the tournament when it is thier district's turn. Put down some requirements in regards to parking and gym size. More than likely the 4 year rotation choices would be a each district's largest facility and would be something like this:
53rd: Knott Central
54th: Perry Central
55th: Breathitt
56th: Powell

If you are going to eliminate split session, you would only use Knott and Perry as Breathitt and Powell both used split sessions.

But I don't like split sessions. If limiting the site to Knott and Perry will eliminate those, so be it. However, Perry is still the best choice due to their central location. You did make a good point though about allegations of corruption or politics hurting the image of the tournament. Whether it happens or not, if one school hosts it every year there would always be suspicions. The only way around that would be the big arenas like the one in Corbin and Pikeville, or the college campus arenas. But there's nothing like that in the 14th region as of now, so the tournament will have to be held at one of the member school's gyms.

I agree. I have seen on other threads comments by people in Perry County who were suspicious of the Knott County administration meddling and I know most of the region is always suspicious of the Perry County administration. The problem with split sessions it has been a common practice statewide, especially with regions with smaller venues.

Oh please...
give me a break.
Meddling and politics banter is a joke.
When it's regional tournament time all teams travel really well and the refs come from another region. And the junk about everyone in the region is suspicious about Perry meddling is a complete crock and Perry folks thinking Knott meddles is a crock is well.

Letcher held the 14th region girls tourney this year and it was packed. People were everywhere during the semi finals. We all know boys bring a bigger crowd, it would not be possible.
Letcher was the first to start the split session two years ago. They should not be in the rotation. Facts are facts.

I actully agree. I don't think a lot of this goes on ANYMORE...not to say it does not at all, but not like in the past.

However, don't think for one minute that if the host school has a team in the tournament that they don't have a little advantage by having access to the referrees during the tournament. They take them their food and drink at halftime, shoot the bull with them before and after the games, and generally get to know them. It's a slight psychological effect if nothing else. Refs are human too. They respond to kindness and buttering up. If it just makes a difference in the 50/50 calls that could be enough to affect the outcome of a game.
Yes, being the host does have some advantages.
