Congrats to Shelby Valley. On an off night, they still got the job done. Good luck at Rupp. I hope you bring the trophy home to the mountains. Best of luck.
Classy post. Thanks for the well-wishes.
And Newman was certainly a handful for Valley last night. He was definitely the Player of the Game in my opinion.

Will Newman be playing college ball anywhere? Just curious????

Did you listen to the game? It was horribly called. BL had more tackles in this game than they had all year in football. Of course that is totally fine because SV is strong enough to get up and play ball. No belly-aching here. SV still came through yet the game was much closer than expected. SV should at least beat Paducah Tighman and Mason County at Rupp before returning to Robinson Creek. Congrats to Coach Jr. Newsome of BL and his players, they are to be respected.

You go out and lose the most important game of the season, on a night in which your team never even led, and suddenly you get the urge to shoot your mouth off. I've never seen so many people toot their own horns after a loss.
Again, if anyone wants to read back through this thread, you will see that all the SV posters were very complimentary of Betsy Layne and their players. Myself, I even said that Jordan Newman was my Player of the Game, as Elisha had an off-night in my opinion.
I guess when you're on the top of the mountain (in this case, the 15th region) everyone wants to take shots at you. Next year, it'll be someone else's turn to be the target.
I agree.

the SV Fans in the 4th quarter were all like:yikes:
where did this BL team come from? This is not the same team we beat by 20+ at BL...and I personally felt like Seinfeld everytime #44 got the ball -- "NEWMAN!!" He scored at will so hats off to you and the rest of your team Newman.
Well, SV, you survived and I hope this wakes you up and makes you realize you are only one bad game or even half from the season being over - Let's use this as some motivation and really play some Valley B-ball down at Rupp next week.
Varney - nice block and nice dunk - you came up bigtime at the end along w/ EJ - were the 5 stitches worth it? I know they were...:notworthy

For instance, lets say from the start of this decade back to the late 70s.
This is conceiveable, but it could be just as conceiveable that the talent level in the region is the same and Shelby Valley has just been that much better than that level.

BL played well, but as usual SV able to win because of boards and good defense....

i wanna know why varney didnt get a techincal foul called on him in the fourth. martin meant nothing by the foul, it was late in the game and he prevented an easy lay up and varney had to act childish about it. and if you say the game was called BL's way then ur absolutely crazy. there were numerous times that valley fouled and it wasnt called as well. but compared to other games in the tournament this was by far the best called. good job bobcats you showed alot of heart. and for SV you may wanna crank it up a notch if you wanna make it outta the first round at rupp.

Please don't tell me that your talking about the foul when Cody hit the floor?
Cody got up and walked to the bench because he was injured and bleeding?
If anybody deserved a technical, it was martin. As for the other scuffle, Cody didn't start it As for the fouls, one of the other posters admitted they were coming in contact without calls. We just had to be touched, to get a call. I was ready to make a Wal-Mart run to pick up some wrapping paper and ribbon, because the refs, just about wrapped it up with a bow for you. You look back at our games and see how many times we have had our starters in foul trouble? One more thing, as a parent, I thank Jason Booher for the class as a coach, that he doesn't scream obscenities at his players, such as what was coming from Betsy Layne's coach. Such language is not needed to coach. I admire the play of Betsey Layne, but I believe the refs undermined their gallant effort.

The only place the talent level hasn't dropped is at SV, hence the margin of victory over other 15th region squads this year.

Betsy Layne came out and was never scared. They played with a purpose. And they played spectacular. But, weren't able to get the win. But, congrats to Valley on a great win and represent us well at Rupp.

Valley one and congrats to them.
Dont talk about the football team caserole, if you dont remember we beat your j.v. team!!!!
Didnt play varsity, but when schedule is up, I bet parsons would love to play you guys.

I find it extremely amusing that all during the year some of you complain about the 15th region officials, then during the regional tournament, you complain about the 13th region officials. Now maybe instead of complaining you should be talking about all the missed free throws, turnovers, lack of rebounding, etc. Officials are unbiased, unlike the average fan. The fans are biased towards their team in everything they post, and when their beloved don't stack up, instead of "manning up" and admit they got beat they just do what is easiest: blame the officials. No wonder eastern Kentucky is the check capital of the world. Everybody always wants to take the easy way out and blame someone else for their shortcomings. Better yet, if there is a problem that you think needs fixing, fix it. If the officials are that bad, take the test and fix the problem. Otherwise, shut up and leave them alone.

yes 5 stitches in his chin -- he went straight to the hospital after the awards
and to the poster who is talking about holdbacks - varney is a beast of a player, especially defensively, and he is 17...birthdate is April 20, 1992 - I believe that makes him the youngest senior on his team and maybe even the youngest senior in the region for that matter:argue:

Indeed. Valley will need to be clicking on all cylinders to make the run that they need in a tourney with teams like PT, West Jess, Mason, and Ballard.

Yeah, because refs have never purposely called games a certain way or been influenced by outside sources to make calls towards a team. :please:

strong words. overrated?? coach booher may be somewhat overrated, due to all the talent handed to him. but he coached that talent to 2 all "a" state championships.
and elisha overrated? let me tell you something. that kid has worked all his life to get where he's at. he's had a basketball in his hand since hes been in diapers. during the summer he wakes up at 7 a.m. puts a weight vest and ankle weights and runs up and down his holler. hes spent more hours shooting at the gym then you've spent in your living room.
getting sick of people saying ej is overrated. everyones just jealous he's getting the recognition HE DESERVES.

I read on here alot lately but dont post much but after reading this thread I have to comment on a few posts-
1.Newman is not the best player in this region. There's this kid at Valley named Elisha you may have heard of him you know the guy thats a Mr.Basketball canidate, the kid that set most the second quarter and still scored just as much as Newman.
2.Never was one for moral victories they dont bring trophies home, but 8 point wins do.
3. Valley is a way better team than they played. Touchey fouls stoped Valley from running there game. And thats ok if they can run a slower game and every one on the team and there mother be in foul trouble and we still win then so be it proves were still a much better team.
4.Good effort Besty Lane. You shot the lights out.
5.They put to much salt on the pretzels at the expo.
6.Congrats Valley you played like poo and still won.
7.The poster who said Newman was the best player in the region, I work at a drug rehab if you want help I can get that in for ya. He did have a fine game though.
8.Very funny post about we beat you in JV football. I love it when young kids get on here and talk up there teams.
9.OMG, hold backs? LOL if we have hold backs apparently the KHSAA sees nothing wrong with it.
10.Last one- the way a game is called can greatly change the way a team plans there game. Valley is a team that likes to take it to ya and take it to ya every min of the game. Im not saying it was a bad called game. But the way fouls were called it did make Valley change things up. And thats cool. Were still going to rupp!
