Scott County
Starters
4 â Kristen Stainback - 5â10 guard â Great guard sees the floor very well. Likes to fade towards the right side of the floor in transition and will cross you over to get into the middle of the lane. On defense she will leave her man if their trap is on in the half court.
14 - Breonna Mckee â 5â7 guard â Likes to drive and get into the lane, isnât much of a scoring threat nor does she play on the ball during defense. Smallest player on the floor for them at just about any time and is primarily only used as a ball handle in the half court set.
21 â Madisen Webb â 5â10 PF/G â Is a major threat from all over the court. Likes to fade to the wing for a skip pass or shot in transition. Does not care to take the ball inside on you, struggles handling the ball if you push her to the left side of the floor. Does not do much of the ball handling and likes to run baseline in the zone offense. Post players must account for her.
24 â Tereka Guyn â 5â10 guard â Runs the baseline in the half court set but flashes high post in the high low offense. She is their best defender and is normally on the opposing teams ball handler.
54 â Alex McKenzie â 5â10 forward â Is their key post player, in their half court set she stays at the free throw line and is utilized as a pick. If they are running high low she can catch you off guard with her post up ability but doesnât do it to often. Watch for her mid range jump shot. Rarely shots but is strong on the boards get a body on her.
Key Bench Players
11 â Audriana Christopher â G â Looks to shoot every time she gets the ball. Will not put the ball on the floor unless its in transition. Floats to the corner if the half court set. If you pressure her she will not shoot, however if you do not account for her she will nail you hard with some 3s. If there is any pressure though she will look to pass out to set up the half court offense. If she is their primary ball handler she always goes to her right side and will look inside if McKenzie is posted up.
22- Ally Conrad â G
They are seven strong can go nine if they get into foul trouble using Logsdon (20) and Huellemier (44). Conrad is a threat from the outside they push the ball to her in transition on the wings. Conrad does not look to drive she looks to shot first then pass second but is not a prolific passer.
Their zone offense is very simple, a lot of high low looks using 3 guards, a baseline runner and McKenzie on the freethrow line. If McKenzie receives the ball at the free throw line she will not turn if a body is on her she immediately looks for her outlet on the wing. If she does turn there is always a back door cutter usually Webb or Guyn. I saw some flex in there when Woodford was in their triangle and 2. You will have to match up with them at some point if they begin shooting well. They have great shot selection so hitting the boards on their misses is crucial. There transition offense is weird because they do not look to hit the lane they first look for the 3 if not then they look to go inside even with numbers a 3 from the wing is there look. No 3s were taken from the top of the key.
Defenses
They will run several full court press looks at you but their half court set never changes. From what I saw they have no zone, however, if you get into the lane you will force them into one. Against Woodford Co. 23 of their 44 points in the first half came off of turnover, forcing 14.
Man -2 â Man â Only half court set I saw, Guyn if in the game will be on Bevins and they will look to trap her every trip down the floor no matter where itâs at. Other guards half to be willing to handle the ball and make smart decisions. Spacing is crucial in the half court set and high ball screen will get your guards into trouble. If you set a high ball screen the defender will hedge off and set a trap.
At times they go full court with the Man denying first pass then drop into contain looking to trap at half court. Must have someone flashing middle then look for an outlet on the side after ball goes middle defenders collapse.
2-2-1 â Normally goes to this after first Timeout. It is a contain much like their man to man. Will look a lot like a Man actually. They deny the center of the floor much like Betsy Layne and trap corners. They do not go to this much.
1-2-2 â They Deny first pass and trap the first pass. Defender denying pass in takes middle of the court, 2 guards deny the sideline which is typical. The off the ball defender slides over so it looks like a triangle, if you have some one flash towards the middle at half court its easy to beat. Woodford looked for the quick pass back to the in bounder and got caught bunched up. Keep the floor spaced, be patient and continuously have people flashing in and out into the middle of the court.
If you get into the lane in the half court you should have a kick out for the 3. May not want Bevins handling the ball if you can let someone else handle the ball to free her up for some mid range jump shots. Look at your Sheldon Clark film some of their half court sets will be ideal playing against Scott Co.
Scott screens a lot using McKenzie two or 3 screens a possession. Must be talking at all times and get a hand in the face of shooters. Do not let Stainback into the lane. Mckee will not shot unless she is in the lane didnât take a 3 at all against Woodford. Conrad, Webb and Christopher are their deep threats, Stainback will shoot from deep but would rather get into the lane or out on transition for a run out.

It has been awhile since I have logged on and replied to a thread. But I had to reply to this one. That was an excellent report and much appreciated. A lot of thought and time went into it and was about a good of scouting report that I have read in any sport. Nice job.

Great effort but just a scratch on the surface-Scott Co. has way to many other off.&def
sets that you have not seen.Steve Helton is a matermind of the game as he has studied
and learned Kansas/North Carolina/Kentucky and U Conn/Tenn teams and configured his own style from these-it is totally awesome.

Can we win?
03-10-2010, 01:53 AM
Anyone can win on a given night, or in this case, day. I will be pulling for the Lady Pirates, but they are, at best, a 20 point underdog.

well thats based of of one tape I saw if I had more then I would probley have seen more. But woodford is alot like Belfry, and Helton is going to go to his bread and butter in the state tourny against teams he hasnt played yet. That is man to man trap the guards all over the court he will throw his 1-2-2 in there, maybe some 2-2-1, and hit the transition game to get some quick looks at threes. You could tell by the Woodford Co. game that this is there bread and butter offensivly because they were playing at EKU on rims they had never played on but maybe once the entire season.

what are you talking about they showed nothing new besides 3 minutes of zone once they got in foul trouble...
03-14-2010, 07:38 PM
what Im saying is they showed only what they had to show to win the game-trust me you did not see the WHOLE of Scott Co. basketball.

well maybe they should have shown a little more in the finals because they used the same game plan...So what I want to know is where was it?

Mercy was and is a much superior team to yours and they could figure out what to do-you did get beat by double figures with your report.Enough said!!!!!

:thatsfunn First off I want to make you aware Belfry is not my team on the complete contrary I am a Pike Central supporter. Just so you are aware we and Belfry have a very rich rivalry in girls basketball. Secondly you still havent answered my question to you based off my report what did they do differently? I will answer it for you they did nothing differently. Scott is a great team and have a rich tradition of greatness, yes they were the better team. Just so you know a scouting report CAN be correct and a team still lose. Also with that the same Scott Co. team relienqushed a 15 point lead numerous times the lead shrinking to 2 late in the 4th quarter. One area that the report was spot on was when looking at their presses which is where Scott. Co. prides themselves. Belfry's guards made the mistake numerous times not getting the ball in the middle of the court because no one was flashing middle and drove themselves into traps, resulting in turnovers. This same Belfry team that you refered to as "MY" team also were 28 point underdogs going into this game and were ruled out before the game was even played. That same team forced the state runner-ups to go away from their game plan and took away the tre, which kept Scott in the game against Mercy and won the semifinal game for them. If you want to discuss where the report is wrong then feel free, but by watching EVERY Scott Co. game during their run to the finals + the finals there is very little that they done differently even though you apparently think they have a trillion things in their arsenal and if they do they did not show it in any games I have seen. Same man to man defense, same presses, same offense, same transition game. The thing with them is they have 3 to 4 girls who can drop 20 on you a night while the others role play. Thus, it makes hard to determine how to play them defensivly so you pick your poision, take the 3 away and you have to cutt of the lane which is what Belfry did and they did not account for Stainback, as I said she rarely looks for the 3 and would rather get into the lane on you. Once again making a report for a 28 point underdog, the team scouted made the state finals, the same team did not do anything different but run a zone for minimal minutes because they got in foul trouble, had a chance to have the lead late, hit your freethrows and have an even better chance to win it and still only lose by 11 after you started fouling. I'll take that as a succeful scouting report. A scouting report is something to build a game plan around, all announcers I spoke to said Mounts game plan was great. Thus, ill take the PROFFESIONALS out look and say it was pretty spot on. hh:

WOW-what an Ego. No coach in his right mind would show his entire arsenal to scouts before his team will play their next game.If it will make you feel better-your scouting report was pretty good but not dead on.Maybe you should do this on a professional basis.Im sure coaches around the state would accept your reports and pay in pure gold.

Its not an ego bluemoon, its the fact that in previous posts you have stated they have much more, in this post alone you stated they aren't going to show everything they have to scouts before the next game. Hints why in my several posts before this one I've stated they showed nothing different in the mercy game. Now if your statement was a complete valid argument then they would have used everything they had to win that championship, or at least I would. I.e pike central installed a 1-3-1 this season and held it in the bag of tricks untill the sheldon clark game. My point is in the games I watched 3 after the Belfry game it was the same gameplan in all games, same offense, defenses (except for the 3 min of zone) and transition game. But hey maybe they do and maybe it was a bad decision not to use what ever bag of tricks they didn't use, fact remains I have seen nothing different which holds validity and truth to my statements in which you have failed to prove otherwise.

Goodness Gracious-OK OK you win.Its obvious you cant understand what Im saying past what you are reading so lets just leave it alone untill next season. You are the GURU of scouting reports and I bow before you.Hey maybe your Pike co.school will make it next year and we can have some more fun.See Ya.

Just make a valid argument with examples is all im asking you have made the same assumption over and over and have yet to support your statements. If you had any support then I would be willing to discuss it but you have yet to anything other then, they do have more than they showed, and they arent going to show everything and Mercy was a better ball team than Belfry. Just tell me what they do differently is all im asking my friend.
