IMO, this was a good game for both schools. SV was not near the top of their game, but you have to give BL some credit for that. They played physical and bumped SV a lot and got their hands up on a lot of shots. They did a fair job of keeping down the turnovers, but SV killed them on the boards. I think it was a good game for SV to get tested. It prevents them from being too big-headed and makes them realize that to advance far in state, they must play better. The opponent in the first round will be a good Paducah Tilghman team. The focus now has to be on one game at a time. SV cannot overlook Tilghman, or they will be sent home early. IF SV plays focused basketball, one game at a time, they very well could be playing Saturday night. Good Luck Cats.

I'm sure he did, as did quite a few SV fans when the lead got down to 3. The boys pulled it together, though, and ran the lead back out.

congrats Valley . I have always said that Valleys second five could play with most teams around . With EJ , AH and TN ,Valleys big guns on the bench BL played with Valley .But still coukd not beat them nor even pass them .

Great effort Bobcats...Not a good or bad called game by the officials, it was consistent...no complaints...Valley didn't play their best but they didn't play bad either, they just played a little careless with their bigger leads and tight at times when BL cut the lead to a low amount...Congrats to Valley, although i was a little disappointed to see the Newsome kid taunt the BL fans when he saw victory was a certainty...

Congrats to SV on the win, and congrats to BL they played a very good game, it was alot closer than many thought including me. I was very impressed with BL tonight they came ready to play, but SV did what they needed to do to get the win but no matter what some of the bobcat faithful think this was FOR SURE not one of SV's better performances on the year. Once again I'm giving credit to BL played their ***** off so bobcatfan1 and set09 chill out because if you'll be honest this game was probably closer than you really thought it would be. One more thing WOW what about VARNEY WITH THE TWO HANDER "SWEET." :rockon:GO CAT'S:Clap:

now this is priceless, not the player valleys starting 5 is?? OMG they couldn' t do anything with him. which game were you watching. LOL.and no one said he was the BEST in the region, i believe it said he was one of the most talented in the region there is a difference.

Betsy Layne had a great tournament, but Shelby Valley Won the 15th region tournament, regardless of how well BL played SV still won. What does that say? Shelby Valley was the best team in the tournament hands down. Shelby Valley played through adversity with foul trouble and played some w/o EJ and still won.

A high school kid was taunting a group of fans after a game in which they "probably" taunted him for 32 minutes, I don't condone it, but it's not something he shouldn't make it to heaven for.

Wow you cant be serious? You must be a comedian, or something. They were barley the best team this YEAR tonight. They MIGHT be in the top ten teams of this region. Their careers will be over thursday.

Second, hats off to Betsy Layne, who played their hearts out, you will be a contender for next years title. Game-wise, SV did what they needed to do, got a little tight in the second half, but the big guns from Valley wouldn't be denied. Great game from EJ, who took over when Valley needed him, just like a Mr. Basketball candidate should do. Tanner and Ramey filled in big minutes for Taylor, Ashley and Elisha, who was hampered with early foul trouble. GREAT DUNK by Varney, definetly one worthy of the best dunk this year!

Great post... Level headed and non biased. Thank you for saying what most people probably think. This was a great game and showed Valley, and its fans where the focus should be. It was a great played game for the Bobcats and nothing should keep them down. They dictated the tempo of the game, effected shots and played tough D which got Valley in foul trouble and allowed them to hit some great shots. It really is a blessing for Valley to have a game with out the normal intensity and focus, and still come out with a win. They will be fine at state and Im sure they will come to Lexington with something to prove. Good luck cats and make us all proud(er).

Not to be a jerk or anything but that is really uncalled for. This team is a dynasty and the school has won the region title 6 of the past 10 years including 3 of the last 4. They really do have a claim to be the best team ever in the region.... Does that mean they are? I do not think so, but they can be proud that they are in the discussion with the Paintsville teams of the 90s, Virgie teams of 80s even some of the older schools. Do not make comments that are as harsh to say that the boys last game will be Thursday, that is foolish.

Yea this hater stuff is bull. This Shelby Valley team's ultimate legacy will not be determined until the Sweet 16 is over. If they make a real run at the title, in other words play on Saturday morning or night, then you can make a case for them being one of Pike County's best teams ever. If they were to win the whole thing, then you can start talking about comparing them to the great Paintsville teams. IMO, Paintsville's size would hurt this SV team big time, but that is just an arguing point. This team's accomplishments need to stand on their own, and in about 10 days we will know exactly where they stand.

It's ridiculous to compare SV's talent level to the JR Vanhoose, Todd Tackett, Josh McKenzie, and Craig Ratliff group. The game wouldn't even be close. I agree SV has a very good team but I think they would only be above average in any other era. Anybody who knows basketball knows the 15th region is at an all time low, as well as teams at the state level. Good luck to Valley and congrats to Betsy Layne on an outstanding effort in the finals.

Congrats to Shelby Valley and I must say to BL keep your heads your team played hard and actually let Shelby Valley know that it wasnt going to that easy to get out of the 15th region. But with that said I know that SV will reprsent the 15th the best out of all the teams in the region. Now SV go to RUPP and WIN IT ALL for the Shelby Valley area and all of the 15th region. Good luck.

I agree as well, that Paintsville team WON A STATE TITLE so they would be the best team ever in the 15th. But I also think that the 1990 -91 Belfry team could give these past Shelby Valley teams a run for thier money, actually they would beat them. They dont have anyone that could guard JJ Hylton and control Mark Williamson, Jim Dotson. and Timmy Kinser, not to mention Shawn Hager.

I think this group from Shelby Valley does a legit claim to be considered one of the best teams to ever play in the 15th region. I based this on their record against the rest of the region, 16-0 and their margin of victory, 38 points. No other team that has ever played in the 15th region has stats like this. Now, can I compare them to other great teams from the 15th region, sure, but what they have accomplished this year so far, no other team can claim.

Yes, it's amazing what a "moral" victory will do for some people. You go out and lose the most important game of the season, on a night in which your team never even led, and suddenly you get the urge to shoot your mouth off. I've never seen so many people toot their own horns after a loss.
Again, if anyone wants to read back through this thread, you will see that all the SV posters were very complimentary of Betsy Layne and their players. Myself, I even said that Jordan Newman was my Player of the Game, as Elisha had an off-night in my opinion.
I guess when you're on the top of the mountain (in this case, the 15th region) everyone wants to take shots at you. Next year, it'll be someone else's turn to be the target.

This isn't a slight to Shelby Valley, but it has to be said. I would hope you are willing to conceive that the Shelby Valley team of the past 4 years, especially this year, has played against weaker 15th competition than 15th region champs before them.
For instance, lets say from the start of this decade back to the late 70s.

I was really proud of Jordan Newman. He played an outstanding tourney. I had the honor of teaching him in middle school and must say he not only gets it done on the court but in the classroom as well. He's a class act.
Congrats to Shelby Valley. On an off night, they still got the job done. Good luck at Rupp. I hope you bring the trophy home to the mountains. Best of luck.
