If you haven't heard or seen by now, the new plans to redo the entry-exit methods into Knott Co. Central High School have now officially begun. The car wash has been torn down for several months now, and a house was purchased and demolished to make way for the new road. The news was officially released and announced to have been apporved to begin work. The preliminary stages are underway now, but the blasting and mountain removal will begin summer 2010 and conclude a dew months later, more than likely in time for the majority of the 2010-2011 basketball season.
The new plans call for a removal of the sharp curve and mountain located at the entrance to KCCHS. The new road will be complete with 3 lanes: 2 for traffic and a central one to act as a new turning lane. The road will no longer be as sharp a curve to hardly any curve at all and will hopefully provide an easier way to enter/ext Knott Co. Central in the future for students, staff, parent, and others visiting the campus. The multi-million dollar project will span for aproximately 5 to 6 months.
I'm pretty excited about this. Care to comment?

Just wish they would put an exit in the back of the parking lot heading back towards hindman. That would make it so much easier to get out if you had two ways to get out of the parking lot. One going right and one going left. People would clear out so much better, and it wouldn't be so hard to do since they are already their doing the work anyways.

Knott Central has been needing this for a long time, glad to hear that they're finally doing something about that!

This is great news.
Knott County Central's gym is one of the best facilities in the state. It's only problem has been with getting out of the place following big games, and especially the Final Four of the regional tournament. Fans have had to sit in cars for longggggg!!!!!!...periods of time:insane::beerwez::help:... in order to get out of the parking area, which BTW they have plenty enough spaces. Parking is not the problem. It's the exit from the parking. It makes you wonder why this wasn't seen as a future problem when they were building the facility way back in the '70's.

This will be great for knott co and i do agree that a back entrance/exit toward hindman would help out alot with the traffic problems

this will not make getting out of the place easier, just getting in! if they don't make another exit, it won't help the problem one bit. How can taking the curve out and making a turn lane help the exit???? well, it can't. So if they want to make it BETTER, which sounds like what they want, they need another exit or make a lane somehow that can just be for those going left out of the parking lot and those going right have another lane. Just my opinion, if they are going to do the work, they should do something that will really help the congestion after the games not just before.

That's the big problem Knott has. The dreaded BOTTLENECK at the outlet. They can park everyone with ease, but once you're parked you're going to be parked for a long time.
