Cleveland Cavaliers center Shaquille OâNeal is expected to miss six to eight weeks after having surgery on his right thumb, a source close to him told Yahoo! Sports.
OâNeal will miss the rest of the regular season and likely the opening round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Clevelandâs regular season ends on April 14, and the best-case scenario could have OâNeal back for the start of the playoffs. Regardless, he is expected to return before the Cavs would have to potentially face their most difficult conference test: Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic.
OâNeal, 37, will have surgery at the National Hand Center in Baltimore on Monday. In his absence, the Cavs will continue to start Anderson Varejao at center. Leon Powe will also share minutes.

Boston Celtics forward Glen Davis injured OâNealâs thumb on a hard foul on Thursday. OâNeal traveled to Baltimore on Sunday to meet with specialists.
The Cavaliers traded backup center Zydrunas Ilgauskas to the Washington Wizards in the deal for Antawn Jamison. Ilgauskas was waived last week and canât be re-signed by the Cavs until March 22.

I hope this causes the Cavs to lose some games and gives the Lakers (who are only 1 game behind) the best record in the NBA going into the playoffs. In case Lebron gets back to the finals, Kobe and the Lakers will have homecourt advantage.

He has got an MVP award! Which is an individual award! A championship is a TEAM award...Which Lebron hasnt had until this season!

Exactly, so why would u take credit away from Kobe just because it took more then just him? Saying he HAD to have Shaq or Pau is NO DIFFERENT then what Lebron needs with his guys or Jordan with Pippen and everyone.!!!!

No I dont! You should read some threads, I started the fact that it takes a team and usually a combination BIG plus Guard to win a ring, I'm not as obsessed with Kobe as u are Lebron.
