Kobe Bryant DID NOT deserve player of the decade
#1
Kobe won the TNT player of the decade award, and it is ridiculous. Shaq was head and shoulders above everyone for player of the decade. It really wasn't even close. Goes to show you most fans are idiots.

Agreed.

All the Kobe fans will say he has 4 championships and so does Shaq, but Shaq could have won without Kobe. Kobe cannot win withoutmultiple stars around him. Shaq DOMINATED the playoffs those 3 years they won in LA. He is by far the best player of the decade.
#4
What has Shaq done over the past 3 or so seasons? Nothing.

What's Kobe done during this time period? Win a championship and MVP award.

Its the all-decade award, not the all 2000-2006 award.
#5
Kobe didn't deserve it. Hack-a-Shaq was termed for a reason. Shaq was that good! He dominated those years when Kobe won his first 3 rings.
#6
Yeah and what did Kobe do until Pau came? Complain about Shaq and take credit for those 3 championships when it was Shaq that was the major reason they won those rings. Kobe didn't even make the playoffs until Phil came back, and they were an average team until Gasol came, even with Kobe and Odom. Kobe is nowhere near the dominant player Shaq was. Even Shaq was amazing last year with the Suns, they just sucked as a team because they played no defense. Shaq is doing what it takes this year with the Cavs whether it be score 20 pts or play only 10 mins. Like the analysts on TNT were saying, Shaq was by far the player of the decade, with Duncan 2nd. Kobe is 3rd at best.

Would Shaq have won without Kobe or Wade? No.

Just same crap from all the Kobe haters, only difference is that it's a different day.

Kobe has the will to win no matter what it takes. He's knocked down a lot, I mean a lot of game winning shots and he's won the awards and become the overall leading scorer in Lakers history. He is without a doubt one of the greatest all-time players in NBA history. He probably won't go down as THE greatest ever, but he does deserve to be in the discussion.

I know a lot of you don't like him simply because of his attitude, but I guess some of you think your favorite players are saints and don't complain when they miss a shot or commit a turnover.

Very great point.

Both are worthy.

You guys Shaq was not consistent for all 10 years. he was dominant for 5 or 6 and played so-so for the last 4 or 5, taking many games off in the regular season.

Kobe on the other hand never took much time off, has been way more consistent statistically the shaq, more all-nba teams, more all-nba defensive teams, pretty much tore up the scoring books for a couple of seasons when he didnt have any talent around him scoring 35.4 ppg, which is the 7th highest season ppg ever in league history behind only Wilt top 6 and Jordan 37 ppg. He could have easily won more than one MVP in the past decade, but much of the media disliked him because of his image early in the 2000s.

Yes Shaq was the focal point in the Lakers 3 titles, but does that completely diminish what Kobe did in those 3 peat days? You have to take everything into account for the decade just not Shaqs 3 best years of his career. Kobe won the 4 titles, easily the best overall talent and scorer from 2000-2009 on a consistent basis. More clutch than Shaq and Duncan combined.

Kobe has a right to be the player of the decade. Lets not forget the 81 pts ...2nd most point ever scored after Wilts 100 pts.

Love Him Or Hate Him, got to admit he's a great Player

Oh he is a great player no doubt about it.. He is the 2nd best in the NBA right now.. and he will be one of the top 10 players of all time probably when it is all said and done.. but Shaq was the better player all around from 2000-2010

What has shaq done since leaving miami?

Its the all-decade award, not the all 2000-2006 award.

Shaq has 4 titles. 3 Finals MVP's. Shaq won without Kobe, Kobe won without Shaq. Shaq had a 2 or 3 yr. player under his wing in Wade, same thing he did from 2000-2003 with Kobe.

Kobe didnt make the playoffs for like 2 of these years. The Clippers had a better record than a Kobe led team in those 2 years. Tied for the 8th seed one year, but had the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Who in this decade has 4 titles, along with 3 Finals MVP's? Shaq

Yeah, Kobe won an MVP. Shaq was MVP in 2000.

Shaq was all star game MVP 3 times in this decade. So has Kobe. Shaq and Kobe were co-MVP's last season.

Shaq was all-nba first team every year from 2000-2006, all-nba 3rd team last season. Kobe didnt make the 1st team in 2005(3rd team, Year or so after Shaq left(While Shaq was still on the 1st team till 2006) But, Kobe was also a 7-time all-nba 1st team this decade.

Shaq could've won with Lebron, if he had him instead of Wade. Fact is, Kobe wasn't nothing till Shaq came to LA.

Kobe has only been the main man 1 time in a Championship run.

Yeah, he outscored West. You think he would've outscored Jabbar, Shaq, or Chamberlain, if all their years would've been played with the Lakers?

Kobe would be lucky to be in the Top 5, maybe even 10 players of all-time.

Jordan, Bird, Magic, Russell, Robertson, Chamberlain, and Jabbar. But that's just naming a few.

Shaq is currently 37yrs. old, Kobe is like 31. At the age of 31, Shaq had been in the finals 6 times, 4 Titles, 3 Finals MVP's, one MVP.

Shaq has been in the Finals with 3 different teams. He only played one year with the Suns. So, 3 out of 4 teams, he took to the Finals. As a teammate, O'Neal is also noted for his ability to form symbiotic relationships with young, talented guards. Playing alongside O'Neal, talents like Penny Hardaway, Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade blossomed into legitimate superstars.

O'Neal was named MVP of the NBA Finals all three times and has the highest scoring average for a center in NBA Finals history.

O'Neal was also voted the 1999–2000 regular season Most Valuable Player, coming just one vote short of becoming the first unanimous MVP in NBA history.

What will Kobe do from the age of 34 on?

Dumb post. Shaq had stars around him when he won it in LA and Miami.

 Kobe's innocent!!!
Kobe should have won MVP the second year Nash won it. He averaged 35 a game and set several records that season. Definitely his best year.
Also, did Shaq win any championships in Orlando w/o Kobe?
Shaq couldn't have won those titles without Kobe and visversa.
Also like BCA stated, Shaq has done little to nothing these last few years, while Kobe has either won MVP or been top 3 in votes.
Grats Kobe, you deserved it!
#19
In Miami he had Wade, that is it. In LA, he had Kobe, but he was the only dominant player. You have to have a good supporting cast to win, but Kobe has all stars around him now, that is the only reason they won last year. Without Gasol, the Lakers would not have won last year. Some of the LA bench players could start on a lot of teams. Kobe cannot do it without MULTIPLE stars around him. Shaq has been successful everywhere except Phoenix and that is because they play NO defense. Kobe was not successful without Shaq until Pau came.

Kobe like MJ was, is adapting his game, and getting better or staying at a high level with despite his age.
Kobe will continue to dominate. I expect him to end his career with around 6+ titles. He has 4 now, great chance to get 5 this year. With the Lakers locking up this group of players for a while, the Lakers will be competing for a titile every year for the next several years.
#21
Also, last year Shaq had a GREAT season, it is just Phoenix sucked because of their defense. Shaq avged 18 pts and 8 rebs a game in just 30 mins last year. He also led the NBA in FG percentage last year. He had 2 down seasons before that, but still. 8 of the 10 years he was dominant.
#22
This, like most all awards is based on stats. Hands down, Kobe was the winner due to stats. I'm not a Kobe fan, but he deserves this accolade.
#23
i agree 100% kobe should not have won player of the decade. he should have won player of the century. Kobe is hands down the best player in the game at the present time and when its all said and done he will be the GREATEST to ever lace up a pair of high tops and step on to a NBA court. Just look at his stats they speak for themselves i mean he had 81 points who else does that SHAQ sure never did. SO KOBE GETS MY VOTE FOR PLAYER OF THE DECADE,CENTURY, HECK HE GETS MY VOTE FOR PLAYER OF THE MILLINUM.

Okay first of all, your case did sound a little convincing but I still have to disagree. Lets just do a breakdown of Shaq vs. Kobe comparison quickly from 2000-2009 in - major stats, accolades, playoff appearances, finals appearances, records etc.

Kobe vs Shaq (2000-2009)
Championships: Kobe - 4 vs. Shaq - 4
Season MVPs: Kobe - 1 vs. Shaq - 1
Finals MVPs: Kobe - 1 vs. Shaq - 3
Allstar MVPs: Kobe - 3 vs. Shaq - 3
All NBA 1st Teams: Kobe - 7 vs. Shaq - 7
All NBA 1st Defensive Teams: Kobe - 7 vs. Shaq - 0
Finals Appearances: Kobe - 6 vs. Shaq 5
Playoff Appearances: Kobe - 9 (missed 2005) vs. Shaq - 9 (missed 2009)
Allstar Game Appearances: Kobe - 10 vs. Shaq - 9 (missed 2008)
Scoring Titles: Kobe - 2 vs. Shaq - 1

Statistical : 2000-2009 -- Kobe vs Shaq

Regular Season Games Played: Kobe - 748 vs. Shaq - 662
Playoff Games Played: Kobe - 147 vs Shaq - 137
Regular Season PPG: Kobe - 31.1 ppg vs. Shaq - 25.1 ppg
Playoffs PPG: Kobe - 28.3 ppg vs. Shaq - 23.3 ppg
Total Season Points: Kobe - 21,065 pts vs. Shaq 15,276 pts.
Total Playoff Points: Kobe - 4,053 pts vs Shaq 3,359 pts

Records and Accomplishments 2000-2009: Kobe vs Shaq

-2nd Most Points Scored in a Game Behind Wilts Chamberlains 100 points- Kobe - (81 points)
-Four Straight Games scoring 50 points or more - Kobe (65, 50, 60, 50) - 2nd person only to do that behind Wilt Chamberlain.
- 7th Highest Season PPG in NBA History Behind Chamberlain and Jordan - Kobe (35.4 ppg)
- Most Three-pointers Made in a Game - Kobe - (12 3pt FG made)

- Shaq did not partake in this because there were really no individual records he broke from a historical stand point like Kobe in any statistical categories from 2000-2009.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This concludes that Kobe put up the numbers and played many more games, won award, broke records, and did things on a consistent basis on the offensive and defensive end from 2000 to 2009 unlike Shaq. I give Kobe the overwhelming vote for NBA player of the decade because he was the best player statistically and skillfully adding also his accolades.

Kobe Bryant = NBA Player of The Decade
#25
kobe is the best please show some love and if he is second best right now who is number one i like to know.
#26
I'd have to go with Kobe.
#27
LeBron is hands down the better player the past 2 seasons. Kobe was the best for a few yrs up until then. And to the guy that said Kobe will be the best ever, either you are being sarcastic, or you are a complete idiot. Nobody will ever be as great as Michael Jordan, including Kobe or LeBron.
#28
The player of the decade deservingly so, is Kobe Bryant. Shaq is great, perhaps one of the most dominate big men of all time. But Kobe is the best. His stats are amazing, his will to win is perhaps one of the strongest in the nba, and his ability to hit game winning shots in the clutch and his consistency in doing so makes him the player of the decade.

And I would like to add NO SINGLE PLAYER WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS! Shaq didnt do it alone, kobe, jordan, wade, duncan, none of them done it alone. It takes a TEAM so everyone arguing kobe couldnt do it without shaq or gasol is a poor argument. No one can do it alone.
