I, for one, think kywildcat01 has done a fine job calling these games over the past several days and also sense that he is coming over to the blue side, a little. No one will say anything if you want to change your name to SVWilcat01 from now on......We welcome all.:welcome:

Congratulations to the Shelby Valley Wildcats, back-to-back All-A state champions! Also congrats go out to DeSales on a nice run this weekend.
I must say, SV was lucky to get out of Richmond with the trophy after a second half like that. Valley seemed like at halftime they were going to blow the Colts out of the gym, but then they played possibly the worst half I have ever seen this group play. SV only hit 3 FG's in the entire second half (!) on 20% shooting, and with the addition of a few late free throws, ended up with 11 points for the half. I honestly cannot remember a lower-scoring half than this in a long time, usually 11 points is a low scoring quarter, much less an entire half. But, if you're going to have a half like that, it's best to do it when you had a 15 point lead at halftime.
Anyway, it may have been ugly, but a win is a win, and Valley will happily take it. Good luck the rest of the season!

I'll echo the sentiments of Stardust...I, too, was impressed with the Newsome boys over the past few days.
EJ gets all the pub, and rightfully so, but the Newsome boys are the "blue collar" players that make that team go. Both do a great job at both ends of the floor.
BTW, I really like the "swagger" that SV plays with. Some might call it being cocky, but they seem to have a lot of fun when they're out there and especially during introductions.
Good luck the rest of the season Valley. Hopefully my Dogs will have a chance to meet up with you guys somewhere down the road...only one time and place that could happen though.:Thumbs:
Good post.
I agree with you, SV is a good team because they surround Justice with a nice supporting cast. Hatfield is a good second option on offense, and both Newsome boys play well on both ends of the floor. Add in complementary players like Varney, Ramey, and Tackett, and you have a team that can make some noise.
And I would love to see Valley meet up with Holmes later in March, because that would mean SV is playing for the state championship... and how awesome that would be!

I don't know if they saying "Defense wins championships" always applies, but defense won this championship...

Congrats SV....I thought Varney did a nice job.....But seems as if year in year out they pick players more to the O side than the D side....The D players gets lost in the mix...Was it just me or did SV half court game look out of sync all weekend....But if you win by 1 or 100 its still a win...Nice back2back wins....

I mean overall....just not in spurts or halves....I thought they played sloppy at times...Not the Valley I have seen earlier this year...But a win is a win...Congrats SV...

I also am dissapointed in the lack of recognition that Cody should have got. The times that Cody broke up passes from Desales players to their own players, especially, half court, the baskets he made in the paint, and the rebounding. There definitely was a very important part of this team excluded from being recognized.

Desales had a very good weekend and exceeded everyone expectations. The LCA upset was the one of the tourney. Congrats to both teams.

Way to go Shelby Valley Wildcats!!!! Congrats on an all "A" State Championship...... Good luck the rest of the season.... Remember to play hard and have fun....

I was really impressed with Cody Varney. He is as blue collar as blue collar gets. Congrats Valley.
02-01-2010, 10:28 AM
Congrats to SV, this run to the All "A" championship shows how talented this group of boys really are. In each game teams tried to stop Justice and one if not all of the other starters picked up the slack. Even from the bench, Ramey and Tackett came through like starters to give them a lift. Even though Varney didn't make all tournament, he is still an all tournament player to me, because they don't win this without him. Basketball is a team sport and Shelby Valley proved they are a team of champions in this game. Again, congratulations to the boys and coaches for all their hard work.

The box score shows Justice with 4 steals, this should give him 484 and 16 away from setting the state record.
