Since its the offseason, I wanted to see what everyone's predictions are. With the 8th graders right now, what impact will they be in this district? (Saying that all players go to the high school that they are currently in) Will power houses fall, will some teams become powerhouses? Will coaches leave, move up, retire? Would like to see this thread take off.

I really am just interested in eastern kentucky teams but would love to know what other teams will fair in the future.

JC has a very impressive freshman class moving up next season. If they work hard, stick together and remain focused I think they will definately have the ability to compete for a state title. Its a very athletic 8th grade class.

I'm going to throw Harlan Co. in the mix to be on top.

I JC and LC will be dominate in 2013 however 5A is a juggernaut. Belfry on the other hand from 2012-2016 (assuming they stay in 3A and a dozen other variables don't change) should win multiple state championships and I believe the 2013 year will be the crown jewel during those years.

Belfry's young kids are among some of the best in the mountains for the future. They have one more so so year and then it's back to domination.

I believe New Harlan (Harlan County) beat Johnson Central when the current freshmen were eighth graders and had a real strong team last year, along with Cumberland, which beat Letcher County last fall.

Harlan County belongs in any discussion about the top young teams.

JC finished the year like 15-1. There only loss was to Rowan Co. in the Middle School Semi-final game. Harlan did play them very close though I think it was like 14-8.

Harlan was very athletic also and should have a bright future.

It's something to fill the time during the off season, but eastkyfootballfan is right. So much can change with kids in 3 years. Some big 8th graders stop growing; some small 8th graders start growing. Some of last year's middle school games could have been won by kids already at puberty dominating kids that haven't hit puberty yet. Some kids quit playing football. Some kids transfer from one school to another. Any predictions as to what programs are going to dominate in 2013 based on last year's 8th graders are about as realistic as Obama's campaign promises were :Clap:.

From everything I have heard Belfry is about 1 or 2 years away from having a run of some of the best talent in school history.Alot can change between now and then, but as long as everyone stays healthy and there is no attrition, Belfry will be very good once again.

Coincidentally by default, expect Pike Central to become a prominent name in EKY as well. Coach Chapman has worked wonders in one year and with the new middle school being built I full expect Pike Central feeder program to improve exponentially and numbers to be at an all-time high. It seems now that kids who live in Pike Central and Shelby Valley school districts that once chose to attend Pikeville are now staying at the county schools instead helping to spur the rise of those two programs.

Elsewhere, Larkey will have the Harlan County program rocking in a few years. Letcher Central is well on their way (although coaching turnover could have an effect if Howard retires). Bell County is an automatic. Johnson Central always has a good feeder program regardless of the coach, as long as Matney is there they will be stout.
