Running Up the score.
#1
I can see College Football where top teams run up scores
on teams to impress Voters as to their rankings.
I read where a school recently tryed to score 200 points
against a lesser team to the delight of their fans.
and last year a coach was fired i recall for
beating a team 100 to 0.
Would this be Considered bad sportsmanship.
Even scores depicted like one below Harlan 90 onieda baptist 13
is a travesty imo and in poor taste.
I mean when does coaches know know to "call off the Dogs"
as grandpa puts it.
I always heard what comes around goes around
but have yet to see as such.
can you recall where a coach on purpose had run
up a score and what do you think ones reasoning
would be?

Recently in a boys basketball game Yates, TX beat a team 170-35 after being up 100-12 at half time. Here is the story from MaxPreps.

Quote:No. 2 Yates (Houston, Texas) posted a controversial 135-point win over Houston Lee on Tuesday night, setting the state record for points in a game in the process with 170. Despite a 100-12 halftime lead, the Lions stayed true to their pressing and trapping style, which didn’t sit well with Lee head coach Jacques Armant.
“I feel very disrespected right now,” Armant told the Houston Chronicle. “I don’t understand why Yates just kept scoring and pressing when they were up so much. These are kids. It isn’t good to do that to other young men.”

Yates head coach Greg Wise defended his team’s style of play.

“We practice running, pressing, trapping every day,” Wise said to the Chronicle. “If we get to a game and I tell them not to do what we do in practice, I am not coaching well. I am not leaving my starters in the whole game. We have 15 guys, and all 15 play.”

According to the Chronicle, a second-half scuffle broke out. In a unique response, officials forced each team to finish the game with the same five players - no substitutions. Bench players watched the second half from the stands.

The Lions are averaging 119 points per game – which would be a national record for points per game over a season – and beat Houston Austin 139-51 last Saturday. Brandon Peters led the Lions Tuesday night with 43 points. Three other players scored 20 or more.

I saw that, but Marion County pulled their starters at half time. JV played the whole second half. They had 13 players score and Makayla Epps only had 13 points.

Campbellsville is just a really bad team. They only had 2 players score in that game. One of them had 8 of their 9 points.

Earlier this year, I watched Knott County Central boys beat Jenkins by more than 90 points. I did not feel like they were trying to run up the score. The starters played less than a half, they did not press after the first quarter, Knott county played a 2-3 zone the entire second half, and stood still and let Jenkins shoot. That's about all you can do besides telling your players not to shoot. Sometimes things like this cannot be helped.

Perhaps they should be a mercy rule as in baseball??

I did not say I had a problem with the score, just stated the score. Campbellsville is not a very good team, and it will only get worse, their JV got shut out 40-0 by Larue earlier this year.
