Well if this is true then looks like the Vols season is over......no way you can let a student-athlete play with those charges, and the season about to start into conference games.

This story is getting far too familiar. I'm shocked by Tyler Smith being involved, since he's been through so much and has such a bright future ahead. We are quickly becoming the new version of "The U" in two sports, minus the fact that atleast "The U" was pretty much dominant with their thugs. Maybe we're recruiting the wrong thugs. But seriously, this has to stop! I'm just wondering if they all go down, or one or two get the blame, and the others miss a few games. We have Charlotte and then Kansas, so doesn't look very promising against the best team in the nation.

The new UC???

Best thing I've seen about this situation, "You can't spell thug without UT."

Sounds like the basketball players have been hanging out with the football players!

For those that don't read on KSR, his is a rundown of the bust.
Items and their locations found inside the vehicle:
A. handgun under driver seat , accessible by either the driver or left rear seat passenger.
B. handgun, with altered serial #, under passenger seat, accessible by either the front seat passenger or right rear seat passenger
C. baggy of schedule VI drugs
D. open container of alcohol
It could not be determined if the driver and passengers were under the influence of marijuana or not although the strong odor indicated that marijuana had been recently smoked in the car. Because of this, physical arrests were made instead of misdemeanor citations for the misdemeanor charges. Possession of a firearm with an altered serial # is a felony charge. All four individuals were physically arrested.
Suspects and charges:
Cameron Alexander Tatum (driver) dob 07/88 (a) unlawful poss. of firearm (b) open container of alcohol
David Tyler Smith (front seat passenger) dob 09/86 (a) unlawful poss. of firearm (b) poss. of firearm with altered serial #

Tennessee is working real hard at keeping the Fulmer Cup, I see.
One more detail: They were busted in a rented Dodge Charger with Illinois tags. The police are still trying to figure out who rented the car. NCAA might get involved, depending on how that detail works out.

Just read that all 4 players face misdemeanor charges and there are zero felony charges. The Knoxville police released a statement that said the information previously released that Smith and Williams faced felony charges was incorrect. They have all been suspended pending further investigation.

So they were in a rental car, which you are supposed to be about 25 to rent if I'm correct. Usually car rental places want some kind of collateral to know you won't run off with the car. So it's looking like someone rented this for them, and aren't you not supposed to flourish athletes with gifts/services?

Lol? Honestly. athletes are idiots. These guys are living the dream and its not enough for them.

you are 100% wrong. UK is in a bigger fish bowl than any team. People are always looking for a way to bring them down.

On the ESPN college basketball page, one of the twitter updates said that the car was borrowed from a friend and that UT was expected to look into the relationship.

The football players from UT, now this? When does it end in Knoxville?
01-02-2010, 10:14 AM
Well the coach said he liked to recruit in the hood.....He also said he lived with people who wore the hoods......Maybe they need to get together...........Just joking and rubbing it in his face what he said by the way

Sad but incidents like this happen entirely too much, across many campuses in various sports. I've never understood the need, that college age young men feel compelled to combine alcohol, drugs and firearms. Nothing good ever results when any of those are mixed.
Be interesting to see if they are suspended for 2-3 games or much more.
