Right on big dog!! They need to basic drug test all those on welfare as well. Bet we save some coin from the get go!

Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut... LOL.
Yes I love this, I totally agree 100%.
I think all players should be tested before the season and after! NO MATTER whether the coaches think they are or not! I know it will never happen, because the cost is so high

A lot of the talk about juice starts when someone becomes jealous about losing a game or seeing the results of opponents' off-season hard work. The risk to anyone who dispenses, procures or even facilitates access to steroids is enormous. Not only does a perp have to fear from his actions when it happens, but a former disgruntled player, parent, or assistant coach or associate can spill the beans years later and there is no statute of limitations on a felony in Ky.

I agree but unfortunately, no money would be saved. The children would in state custody and that is even more expensive.

Good point, but what about the team's and players they would forfeit to/ What if they also had user's? Would not work IMO because it would not be fair. I do think that you can and should test at the championship level, but make that kid ineligible to play. This help slow it down. IMO it is like all the drug's, the law cannot stop them from being used wrong. I have no clue on most of this subject because I am not a user or know anyone on them. What do they cost on the street, from a doctor? Example: bottle of Testosterone.

I have studied them quite a bit. I have a Bachelors Degree in Kineisiology and played college ball that had a problem with steroids. I have studied them because of the performance enhancement aspect and health. I had a father and mother who passed away in their early 40s due to cancer. They both underwent long surgeries and lost alot of weight. My dad dropped to 90lbs from 190lbs. I think steroids could help cancer patients maintain weight better than THC tablets. I also think they will play an important role in mens health as they age. But i do not think they need to be in high school sports. They are relatively cheap. Less than 100 bucks for testosterone. Most kids know nothing about PCT and restoring their hormone levels. They are also dangerous due to the fact that their hormones are just now coming into play. This can stop natural production for the rest of their life.

Is there a really problem of steriod use in high school football in the state of Kentucky?

Texas in 2007 tested 45, 000+ players and 19 tested positive.
What would it be in KY
Parents and coaches if you knowingly let your sons/players do this SHAME ON YOU. Their life isn't worth the limit results you see on the field. I've seen the effects and it's not pretty

I dont know about the whole state in general, but I do know several football programs in Eastern Kentucky that abuse steroids

I played with one person in high school that I know took them. His bench went from 205 to 295 in a few months (he didn't squat or powercleant. etc). I went to EKU from 1994-1996 and know several people who took steriods. They were very easy to get in Richmond. The joke was it was easier to get the drugs than the darts. I don't know. Injectable testosterone would cost from $250-$300 for a low dose 10 week cycle. No one ever worried about PCT. Believe it or not there are prohormones on the market right now (some have been banned) that are extremely extremely extremely effective. They also cause liver damage as well just like the real deal. Also, most drugs test do not test for steroids.

Football1 Wrote:I believe steriods are a terrible problem here in the moutains. I played college football and saw the amazing results men could get using them. I was tempted many times but frankly (sad to admit) could not afford them. The fastest, stongest, players on our team were ALL users. Jose Conseco's book "Juiced" is a great read for anyone interested in the topic. He contends when used correctly they are safe and effective. And the truth is, the guys I knew who used them in college are fine today; smaller, weaker, now that they are off them - but at least today they are fine. That is not to say when they are 50they will be though.Yeah Jose is a quality source for health effects of steriods.
Still - steriods are cheating plain and simple. And while some may get away with using them without obvious harmful effects; the news is littered with the stories of many whose lives have been destroyed by these drugs. Sounds like testing is costly and inaccurate from what has been posted here.
That brings to light a fundamental truth that gets overlooked so often: the job of a coach is more than winning. Most coaches would know if a player was making the kind of fast gains that only come from steriods. They have a moral and ethical responsiblity to stop that player from participating on their team while they are using. But I have never seen that happen.
There are several factors that will hurt a person even if you don't see it right away. Some of which is cancer later in life, connective tissue issues, heart issues, etc. All of this will happen later in life. A lot of users look fine right now but they will reap the negatives later in life. It's a fact.

You can get them alot cheaper than that right now. The prohormones are harder on your liver than most of the real steroids. They are 17a Methylated. Dbol also uses this same make up to get into your blood system. In a way injectables are safer.

It's scare that the prohormones are/were legal to begin with. I hope that a lot of high school players haven't wrecked their bodies with them.

I think there are more kids on juice in Southeastern Ky that play basketball and baseball as compared to football players. I know that sounds stupid but just go to some games and look at some of the new kids gunz a blazin.

Testing has to be random, because if it isn't the child's parents could file suit. Steroid testing is very expensive. I have been around HS athletes for nearly a decade and have only known of one player that was suspect. Maybe at schools with much more internally competitive programs it is more of a problem, but for most schools (especially county schools) it is not that wide spread... for two reasons: too expensive for a teen to be able to buy them (only a psycho coach would provide them) and accessibility is very limited. I have been in the weight room longer than any high school athlete has been alive. This kind of stuff should definitely be addressed, but college is where they are more likely to use this stuff (because it is more accessible and affordable, for a lot more kids).
I always use myself as an example to the kids (not to use). "I have been lifting for 19 years. I have set state and American records in powerlifting and have never used steroids or any other illegal substance, for that matter. I have deadlifted 600 lbs; squated 550 lbs; and currently bench 480 lbs... and I will pee in a cup any time to prove that I am clean."
I am a big believer in "lead by example". :1::rockon:

It is also very satisfying when I see known "juicers" that are my age and I am still stronger than most of them. I actually talked to a guy in one of the places I work out at, last week, and he was remarking about how I was still about 100 lbs ahead of him on bench. And this guy is about the same size as me, not a little guy.
I know it sounds like bragging, but I just think it is really important that kids know that with hard work... you will get there and in the long run, you will be the stronger and healthier for it.

His contention is that the problem is not with steroids it is with the improper use of steroids. Is he right? I have no idea. I was one of the guys who played college football without the use of these drugs who got beat out of a position by one who did...

My personal belief is that God gave us all a body. Some big some small but all unique. To stuff it with any sort of drug that may harm it is not only sinful but stupid. Still, this issue should be considered from all sides.

Yes, they should be tested! I would just be curious if we would have enough left to be able to play a game! I have seen them floating around and cant believe that some of friends parents buy them for them! All of this "Trend" stuff makes me sick! I guess I am punished because I wont take them!

umm your wrong i seen players my old school use steroids and never one time seen them get drug tested. i have friends at alot of other schools not going to say which ones but some are power houses in eastern kentucky and they have used them too. and never not one time get drug tested. it happens all the time i know kids right now that took them last year and they will be kids this summer and during the first couple of months of the season that take them. i sat in the weight room and watched the best player on the team take steroids needle and all. not only could you tell he was getting bigger but you could also tell his mood swings. one lil thing would just make him blow up and start breaking things. so you parents and school officials that use this site you need to do a better job because i promise you it goes on i have seen it first hand!!

yes trend is another that is really bad at my old school i know at least 10 players on last year team that went from benchin 180 to 300 from the end of school to the start of football practice from using this and yes coachs know about it and the parents buy it for them so its mostly the parents fault because if you buy them that you might as well buy them the real thing!!

Are you talking about TREN. As in Extreme Tren and Tren Extreme (two different companies same basic compound). These are prohormones. A "steroid test" may or maynot show the use of such a compound depending on the individual. Its a Test/Epitest ratio. However if you are talking about Tren Ace or other ester than those are horrible for teenagers. Its used to make cattle put on weight and can be made very easily. I know both of these can be found easily in Martin County. I just hope some high school kid isn't studpid enough to take the steroid "tren". The prohormone can be bad enough at that age the steroid will completely shut down your system.

IMHO, you should NOT single out certain kids to test (All-state/State Championship teams)... Maybe the entire state should get together on this (athletic departments/BOE), vote for it.... If they come up with a yes vote... Do a random 2 to 5 kids per year per county. Make it random that way the kids will not know if or when they will be called for the test if ever! In all honesty, I have NOT seen any child that I would consider being on "roids".... Adults, heck ya but most of those are older guys re-living their younger years trying to get buff quick to impress women! I have been around quite a few youngsters and work in the school system myself... You would notice a change in behavior in a child you see and associate yourself with on a daily basis. Random drug tests ARE performed throughout Pike County EVEN on children in the 6th grade if they play Jr. High/Varsity sports. Parents have to sign permission forms for each sport and a new form every year. I know as I've already signed 2 for my son for football, who is a sophomore this year and will be signing another one this spring for baseball. I have no problem with them testing my child as I would want to know as a parent if he is doing something he should NOT be doing!!

My personal opinion is that in these days no athlete at any level should be held to different standards to any other, the pressure to become a great athlete is greater than their ability to make a responsible decision.

RAW.
My Comp Lifts are a little less, because you have to wait for commands:
Bench: 435 wth pause
Dead: 451 (did 600 back before I had pinched nerve; 451 was 2 years ago)
Curl: 187 (knees locked, etc)
Never did comp squat.
I'm getting older and can definitely tell a difference!
