Belfry 2010

mrfootball03 Wrote:They have no experience with wrestling. This may end up the same kind of deal like track, that Matt Varney does..

Belfry used to have a wrestling program. Thats where Matney came from. He turned SC into one of the top programs in the state and had a nationally ranked team there. I think Belfry would be a perfect place for a wreslting program. They are close to WV too so that helps for compitition.

Here's a question for you guys, what do you guys think the 2 big incoming freshman Sani Warren and Justin Johnson will do? Will they have any role on the varsity offense or will they be JV and freshman monsters? Since the past 2 years Belfry has played freshman, I suppose anything could happen.

Not sure on who you're talking about? Can u fill us in?

Sani and Justin will not see significant playing time at the varsity level next year(at least early in the year). Haywood has shown he isnt afraid to put freshman into significant roles so I could be wrong. BUT these two kids are going to be special. I cant say I ever witnessed an 8th grader with as good a arm as Sani and he has the throwing technique of an experienced signal caller. Justin is just flat out fast. A little undersized at this time but the size will come. I would say that the May boy, the 8th grade FB, will probably be the one that might see the most playing time next year as a freshman. With all that being said the future looks extremely bright for the Pond Creekers for the next 4 years.

Did you go to the Sheldon Clark game, Wooderson? He was the mascot at that game. I don't want to tell his name cause everyone in Pond Creek might harass him wanting him to play.

You guys may not belive me but i think that johnson, and may have the potental to start next year at one of the hb positions. and Sani has the potential to be the greatest QB in belfry history. Someone VERRY close to sani has told me that haywood, after 8th grade weightlifting takes him on the field and teaches him some of the pass plays belfry will be running next year

I know that after weightlifting a few days ago Coach Haywood took Sani and Reed Williamson onto the field and did a thing where Sani threw from the 15 and Reed had face the end zone and to turn before it got there and catch it. So if he also takes him out and teaches him plays I wouldn't be surprised.

I have mentioned this in the past, but will bring it up again now that Belfry has some serious talent at the QB position in the pipeline.

I cannot say enough how much of a positive impact it would be for Belfry to establish a connection between a QB and a couple kids whose primary role is to play at WR and TE on offense their ENTIRE prep career. Belfry has had some talent at WR and TE in the past.. I think of Derick Pauley, Matt and Mark Maynard, the big Chapman kid, etc.. but the majority of these kids either were great athletes, playing out of position, or "grew" into the position.

I would love to see the Warren kid and a few kids who would like to play WR/TE start hitting summer camps together, working out together individually, and practice running routes starting this summer If they can develop timing together, this could be the catalyst to making Belfry a dominant force once again. Haywood can coach a running game that forces a defense to put 9 or 10 men in the box every play. A receiver will always have single man coverage when this happens. If the route is ran correct, the pass is on time, and the WR has enough athleticism to make a play in the open field... Belfry can really wreak havoc and force defenses to back out of the box.

Granted that BOTH young men are excellent athletes, they just don't have the size as of yet. There are a LOT of upperclassmen who have grown with age, have the talent, and the ability to do what they have been practicing the past two or three years and the size to go along with it....Although they have got a lot of talent they will have to grow into the program as the upperclassmen have had to do. I look for Belfry to be able to compete with anyone next year as they may be a suprise team!!

Who is Sani? And what tangibles does he bring to the field.
#41
Sani Warren was the 8th grade QB at BMS. He has a nice arm and a lot of talent to be his age. He needs to get stronger. Justin Johnson will be a future star. Hopefully he can grow more, but I would think it will be his sophomore year before he has any real impact. To hit on what EKU said. Trinity Carr and Joey Duty will have one more year at BMS, but they both are really good athletes with great hands.

i dont think soni or may will start offense, but i believe they both could start on d. Belfry secondary is up for grabs and both these boys hit like locomotives. They have both dedicated themselves to the weight program and are working very hard from what i have seen.
#43
Belfry should have one of the best lines they have ever had on both sides of the ball. With a qb making the right reads they will nit need a superstar runningback. Not to say carroll will not be one, belfry has a lot of good backs in the waiting #22 #15 and #25 are all good plus francis, runyon and willis.
#44
Btw, Idk how wrestling works but Belfry won our first meet over Prestonsburg this past week.

I have seen Sani hit some guys, and he's a leader. Also very vocal. He's got all the tools.

I think the halfback spots are anyone's game right now. The spot will be earned in the weightroom and this summer. They both could go to anyone. There's alot of possiblities. I look for a tough defense from Belfry this year. The d-line will be strong with Big James Hardin clogging the middle up, and an effective rotation on the outside, plus young experienced linebackers, Carroll should return at safety and it will be his 3rd year, and the players who could take the rest of the secondary spot all look very good.

We had one of the best freshmen classes in a long time this past year
this next one will be good to but we have played freshmen for two years
not to say this next one isn't good but we are looking real good right now
I beleave that the new kids will be playing there JR year with some good
playing time there 2ND year. Belfry has good talent comeing for the next
7 years the future looks good for the Pirates. GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR PIRATES.
#46
You guys keep talking about last years Freshmen. Who from that class is expected to take on starting or key roles? I remember the Frosh LB starting most games last season and another Frosh LB playing some minutes as well. I assume those two guys will start somewhere on defense again next season. Also seem to remember the radio referring to a Frosh playing the 2nd TE spot most of the season.

Who are those kids? What other Sophmores to be will take on significant roles?

As to the prediction that the offensive and defensive lines will be improved, please explain that. Do most of the key guys from last season return?
#47
Does anyone have an update on Willis and how he is rehabing from his injury. All indications were that he was going to start last season at RB. Coach Haywood seemed to feel confident enough in him to move Thomas Varney to QB. Obviously that all changed after the injury.

How good is Willis? If he is a fast/elusive big play type back, then a backfield on him and Carroll (more power/tuff running) good be good with Runyon at FB.

The Sophmore QB played well IMO this past season and has good size and athleticism to really develop.

I think you're exactly right. But it's far easier to say than actually do...

WRs fast enough to get good separation from man coverage will, in Belfry's system, end up on the depth chart for HB. And TE's mobile enough to get downfield will end up on the depth chart for FB.

It's a case of where do you need what talent you have the most. In Coach Haywood's offense, the WR is low on the list of priorities. That's not to say Coach Haywood won't play a more open style when personel dictate(when Francisco (sp?) played QB), but it isn't his preference or what he coaches best.

Confusedhh:

have to wait there turn and they will be very good players for the

belfry used six interior lineman on off. Consitantly last year, four return. As far as the soph. Coming up they are as a group probably going to be the most dominant o line in pirate history. They are all big and physical. James may and preson dotson imo will be playing varsity next year both are strong and they also have pedigree, both fathers were all state lineman at bhs, jude willis and taylor and marcum are all going to be hard to handle in the next year or so. Morgan bently at tight end imo was the key to bhs losing to jc this year. Could be the best since rick kestner, and thats a statement. The soph who will be sharing time at that spot this year is tony messor. Who could also be a star. The backs are solid in the soph group. On defense bms did not lose any impact players in the box.

I know, bro. Ah, tell yours to call ours. Yeah I believe so. The only ones I can think of are Chancey Cisco, Brian Hockenberry, AJ Patrick. Might be more.

and no one heard from you for a while. But go on and say
what ever you want to and it will happen again only twice
the next time. Like i said before this district comes through
Belfry always has and always will. You all will be good next
year and so will we.

Wasn't an "odd reason".... There WAS a reason, you just didn't put it... Smileand I have to say this in defense of your TEAM..... One person does NOT make a team.... There are 11 young men on the field... Not just one!
