Independent vs City vs County Schools - Fairness?
#61
SEKYFAN Wrote:Didn't he transfer into the Highlands district while living in another?

In eighth or ninth grade, he moved from his father's in Kenton County somewhere to his mother's in Fort Thomas, they were divorced.

He still lives in Fort Thomas and I believe he has a son.

Simple...Since they are in the same town, put them in the same district. This will never happen, because KHSAA LOVES that gate money in the championship game.

Yeah, I'm amazed that there isn't more of an outcry about this. No way you should have the KHSAA manipulating the finals matchup every other year. X and T are close enough that they should be in the same district. Highlands and CovCath have had years where they were head and shoulders above the rest of the state in 3A, but one of them had to lose before the finals. If the KHSAA had messed with things to put them on a collision course in the finals, the rest of the state, myself included, would have gone bananas.

I really don't mean to step in this conversation, but you talked about 3rd grade leagues, and that really impressed me what Highlands is doing. My question is what traditions when it comes to that in regular public schools are we doing to get these kids ready? What kind of league other than Pee-Wee are we doing to get these kids ready? If you want to do what Highlands is doing, then it starts with the youngsters.

My Priorities are:
1)God
2)Family
3)Cougar Athletics!

Everything else doesn't matter![/COLOR]

Obviously you live in NoKY. If you had Jared's skills, would you choose Scott or Highlands? Due to an unfortunate situation with his family, he was able to choose between the two.

J. Lo's TE went to Silver Grove until HS I believe. Now I do not blame him for leaving the Silver Grove school district because 1 it is a rough school district (90% free and reduced lunch) and 2) they do not have football.

Many areas either have the kids play middle school football or play in developmental youth leagues. Highlands teams do not play teams outside of Highlands. They are coached by people that have an vested interest in the league. This is not the case in many areas.

On some of those St titles above as listed as Ind and Team. Who won the St team golf title? There are certain sports that private schools do very well in. Cross Country/Distance runners, Swimming, Diving, Golf, Soccer, girls basketball and Volleyball. Volleyball and Girls soccer are fairly new to many areas. Shelby Co did not have a girls soccer team until sometime in the mid 90s and did not get a volleyball team until after that I believe. They have established programs and everyone else is playing catchup. Also when you look at those sports how many of them have quality coaches and development programs throughout the state?

The key is the highlighted part. The little leagues play each other and not outside the city competition. It is about teaching technique and keeping kids interested. ALL kids interested. ALL players play. It seems that the surrounding Little League teams are more about winning the super bowl than allowing all kids to play, have fun, and learn while doing it. Which lends its self to only playing the star players to win the game. Really not a good win win situation in my opinion.

There is a time for winning and a time for learning. Youth leagues are for learning , High School is for winning, which Highlands does very well.

The TE you speak of is Derek Smith. He actually started at Highlands in 7th grade.

So he dreamed of playing for Highlands while in another district.

Lorenzen's younger brother, who obviously was not as good, played for another school in northern Ky.

I could not remember his name. Either way he started at Silver Grove and left which I do not blame him. I think his older sister stayed at Sivler Grove but I could be wrong.

It also did not surprise me that J. Lo would dream of playing for a school in another district.

Looking at the numbers, no other school has as more than 1116 boys.

It's very obvious why they are doing this. Who are the two best teams in Louisville and at times the best two teams in the state? And whether you like it or not, it's catering to the private schools. If you think it's not, try to come up with another logical reason. No way, no how, should these two be allowed to meet only in the finals of the state playoffs.
Does anyone know of another situation in our state playoffs that is similar to this?

Another alignment question is why is Fort Campbell in a district going all the way to Hancock County 140 miles away?
