Boyle County put up some pretty good numbers this decade. Boyle's record over the ten year span was 121-20 with 6 appearances in the state finals and 5 state titles.

The Rebels won 11 or more games eight times and 13 of their twenty losses came during the "dark days" of the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Jeff Duggans won Mr. Football and Rees MacShara has a good shot of duplicating that. Numerous Rebels have went on to play Div. I college football and a couple have made it to the NFL.

Not bad for a little county school in central Kentucky.

I doubt that Boyle's is the best record over this same ten year span (I haven't researched any others) but it's pretty good. :Cheerlead

Highands was 117-34 over the decade with state titles in:

2000, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009


Trinity won 7 State titles and went 128-18 I think. I would say that Trinity is the only team that could claim the title over the Rebels.

From all indications Boyle will be close to the 3A/4A line. Their grade levels that will determine the reclass are considerably smaller coming up.

Boyle had a great run to start the decade, no doubt.

Four straight is greater than three and you can add that it was five straight trips to the State Title game.

No one plays a tougher schedule than Highlands but it's not like Boyle did not face stiff competition to win those four.

2000 Defeated the Class A champ Danville (14-1) 47-0. Breathitt (9-3 loser in third round) 69-8. Lex Cath twice for their only 2 losses of the year.

2001 Defeated the Class A champ Danville (13-2). Henry Clay (10-3 loser in 3rd round) 32-0. Hopkinsville (12-2) 28-21. Rockastle (14-1) 49-14 in title game.

2002 Defeated Henry Clay 35-0. Prestonsburg 55-0. Bardstown 60-0. Hopkinsville (10-4) 13-7. Rockastle (13-2) 21-0.

2003 Defeated Class A champ Danville (14-1) 45-26. Lafayette 35-0. Henry Clay 46-7. Pulaski County twice (11-2) 63-14. Paducah Tilghman (13-1) 35-21. Highlands twice (12-3) 24-22, 44-10.

2004 Defeated Class A runner-up Danville (10-5) 37-30. Henry Clay 45-21. Hopkinsville 55-28. Lost twice to Highlands (14-1) 21-0, 22-6.


That was a pretty good run. Maybe not as impressive as these by Highlands but worth discussion. :Thumbs:

Since we are now on the subject. Boyle County and Highlands competed together in 3A for six seasons (2001 ~ 2006). Boyle won three titles, Highlands won one title, and the teams were 2 and 2 head to head. I'm not worried about Boyle competing with Highlands. We'll hold our own and win our share. :thanks:

Trinity won seven state championships, reached the state finals on nine occasions and were ranked in the final USA Today Super 25 Rankings three times, including a fourth place finish in 2002, the highest in state history.

A DECADE OF DOMINANCE
No team came close to matching the success of the Trinity Shamrocks during the decade that spanned from 2000-2009.
• Trinity won seven of the 10 state championship games contested during the decade and appeared in nine of the 10 state championship games contested in the highest class in the state of Kentucky.
• The Shamrocks have won two of the three Class AAAAAA title games that have been played.
• Trinity senior quarterback Brian Brohm was named the USA Today National Offensive Player of the Year and Kentucky’s Mr. Football in 2003. He was also featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 2002.

2000:6-5 overall lost to paul blazer in 1st round
2001:9-4 overall lost to rockcastle in 3rd round
2002:10-3 overall lost to rockcastle 3rd round
2003:8-2 overall lost to 4 seed boyd county 1st round in a huge upset
2004:12-1 overall lost to highlands in state semis but Bell won by forfeit due to using an ineligible player so in the books highlands won state title with a record of 1-14 they won state because player was eligible that game looks to me like he should of sat out because of the previous games.
2005:10-3 overall lost to rockcastle in the 3rd round
2006:9-3 overall lost to rockcastle 2nd round
2007:12-1 overall lost to lexington catholic 3rd round (Winston Guy was on the team)
2008:15-0 overall State Champions beat Bullitt East 15-13
2009:12-2 overall lost to Boyle Co. in state semis and other loss was to Alcoa, TN

since 2000 Bell has 103 wins and 24 losses 1 state title few district titles and a few region titles.

FYI...Michael Mitchell was the player in question for Highlands that year. Mitchell "DID NOT" play in the championship game that year. The one win in the 1-14 record you referred to was the title game. Bell got hosed by Mitchell but he didn't play in the finals.
