WYMT games released, Jan 5-9

A great lineup of games for that week include:

Buckhorn vs Shelby Valley (Tues) 6:30 pm
Perry Central vs Clay County (Tues) 8:15 pm

Knott Central vs. Knox Central (WED) 6:30 pm
Hazard vs Johnson Central (Wed) 8:15 pm

Looks like could have some great games and a sold out Friday and Saturday night.
Would love to see Shelby Valley and Perry play on friday and the winner to get the winner of Knott and Hazard. I think that is what WYMT is hoping for too, but you never know what is going to happen in this tourney. Good luck to all the teams.

Should be a good tourney. I didnt watch SV play in Florida but outside of that Perry County played them tougher than anyone outside of the State Tournament. Would be a super matchup the place would be rockin.

I bet WYMT is thinking a Hazard vs. PCC consolation game and a Knott vs. Shelby Valley championship would be awesome in their eyes.

I would like to see the pcc/ hazard and knott/sv game also......... rematch from the hoopin it up classic last christmas for knott/sv and hazard/pcc is always a great game to watch

I agree, Bluecat. The Horn is off to a good start. They play Anderson Co. Saturday, which I think, may be the second rated team in their region. This will be a tough game at Berea in some sort of classic down there.

The first round matchups look pretty decent, but assuming all the favorites win, those semifinal games should be awesome! Shelby Valley vs. Perry Central and Knott Central vs. Hazard would really showcase the best of mountain basketball this year.

I am just trying to figure out why 3 of the 4 best teams were put in one bracket (Shelby Valley, PCC, and Clay County). And yes, Clay is better than Hazard, Knox, and Johnson Central. I would imagine if they seeded this tournament as is reported that SV would be the 1, Knott the 2, PCC the 3, Clay the 4, Hazard the 5, Buckhorn the 6, Knox the 7 and JC the 8. You might could swap Knox and JC and Clay and Hazard. With this being said Hazard and Clay should have hooked up in the same bracket with SV and Buckhorn since you have split up the 14th schools. I guess money and politics come first for the Mountain Classic committee. They want Knott in the finals and gave them the easiest road to get there while they wanted Hazard in there as well for the gate. Looks like PCC and Clay are the real victims in all of this but this will make for a great first round game. Maybe this is the reason why certain big name schools have chosen not to participate anymore since it has become such a political and 14th region heavy favorite tournament. Having said this it should be a really good tournament with some great games.

I'm goin to agree with aslan another knott pcc final and pcc coming out on top but that won't be the best game of the tournament the best game of the tourney will be pcc and Shelby valley in the semi finals so it will be exciting to see what happens

This tournament used to be referred to as the "Clay County Invitational". Now it's Perry Central's. Shelby Valley will come into this tournament though as the favorite this go around.

I agree, SV is going to be the favorite going into it.

SV is the best team in the tourney but you literally never know what will happen in this tourney when you are playing one of three 14th region favorites.

Not sure how it could be considered Perry's Invitational with them matched up against Clay Co. in the first round and looking at a possible second round match-up against Shelby Valley. Looks more like these brackets favor Knott Co. Just my opinion.

Knott def has the easiest road to the finals, but they won't beat the SV/Perry winner.

I'll be surprised if any of the teams in the tournament are ready for SV. I wouldn't look over Knox either to make a great showing. GL to all teams!
