Sounds like a solid game by Valley! Anyone have stats? I would love to see how Elisha and Ashley did.

Dunbar has a scrappy team and did a good job on the boards. Varney had a difficult time staying on the court due to foul trouble (which I'm afraid may become a common occurrence). Elisha was effective in getting to the basket, but his normal intensity seemed to be lacking a little today on some plays.
This was a good win for SV given that their press didn't really affect Dunbar and they were still able to come away with a 22 point victory...

Well I guess Valley's size was the big question this year.

They struggled a little to defend With on the interior, and offensive rebounding wasn't strong. I do think that Tyler Newsome creates some matchup problems on the post for some teams, and Taylor Newsome is always solid inside.

Congrats SV

Elisha had 25 and the Newsome's 14 each. Hatfield had 10, but shot terrible. Shelby Valley gave up too much on the inside to With. That kid was a good player. Good first game for SV. Ramey played well and will be a dependable reserve. Elisha played solid, not great IMO. I think Booher needs to get him a few minutes rest each half. He did not come out until 30 seconds left. Over the course of a year, a few minutes here and there will add up, and Elisha will be fresher come tournament time. Typical first game. Plenty to work on for Valley, but a lot of good practice material for Booher. Congratulations 'Cats.

my observation and yours go hand in hand, this did not feel like your typical valley game, the atmosphere was just dull not what you'd expect for a season opener. just kinda felt like buisness as usual. it was sorta quite. does the blue crew not exist any more i was very disapointed to see the lack of support from the students, usually that section is packed with kids.
c'mon kids this team is something to be proud of go to the game act a fool and support these boys I remember when in some big games the blew crew was a deciding factor.

The Blue Crew died once the '08 class left.

The Blue Crew died once the the "08 class left, did the seniors on the Blue Crew die? Because all of the seniors who made that team what it was, is still on that court busting it's butt without a supporting cast. Shelby Valley is highly ranked in the state, and Holmes and Scott County lost, so that moves Shelby Valley higher and higher in the rankings, and the blue crew died, that's just great. Shelby Valley plays Sheldon Clark at 7:30 Tuesday, so I suggest the Blue Crew resurrect their section in the auditorium, and when you say things like that on here, other teams read this and see that you don't even believe in your team. Nice going, blue crew. Are you going to fix it?

I don't get what you're saying here. What I stated was true. When my class, the '08 class graduated, that was pretty much the end of the cheering section. I went back for a few games last year, and it hurt to see the little support the team got from the students. My Junior and Senior year we rocked SV's gym even for the smallest of opponents. Teams didn't like coming to Valley because of us, but now that effect has dwindled away.

As for the Blue Crew. There is one kid who really led them and now he is gone they seem to be maybe big game and tourney only maybe this will get someone fired up.

I wasn't around for any of last year's games, but the year before I was totally amazed at the organization of the blue crew and how they were always in sync. Anyway you can make a few visits and get someone to fill your shoes. You did a fab job.

'Congrat's" to Valley and looking at the numbers that other potential Mr. Basketball candidates put up, Justice had a good night.

Any win is a good win, and some of the comments on here are about what I expected. The graduating seniors of last year took with them a lot of support and cheering fans, so we need to remind them of their need to cheer on the team that their family members played for and, if nothing else, to cheer on a team that has the possibility of winning a state championship, at the least to get there with their support. As was stated before, a cheering section of great support, will sometimes lift up the team enough to win a squeaker now and then. Go SV, Go Wildcats.

Congrats to the Wildcats and Elisha Justice with his game high 23 points!!

Good first game for Shelby Valley. Sounds like Elisha started off his senior year with a good outing, and it also appears that the addition of Ramey has given SV at least one scoring option off the bench.
Folks shouldn't read too much into this win. Even though Paul Dunbar is a big 6A school from Lexington, they're not as good this year as other city teams like Lexington Catholic or Tates Creek. Dunbar had already lost to Shelby County (also by 22) and Madison Southern (by 12), so a 22 point margin seems pretty reasonable. SV did what was expected of them this game, no more, no less.
Let's hope SV gives a good showing this weekend in the Expo.

The one thing that sticks out to me after watching this game and the Logan game is defense. Justice, Bryant and Varney always play loose and gamble up top. Years past if they got beat you had Tackett, Adams and even Jonah Justice back there protecting the basket. This team has not adjusted yet and Im sure Booher will work on this. They are giving up a lot of transition baskets.

My Senior Year, which sounds like your Junior Year, was probably the best the Blue Crew has seen, it was wild lol..

Is Dunbar going to be able to get out of their district this year?
