They had around 10 sr. this year out of about 50 players.

I look for another competitive year from the hawks with the top 3 teams in the district all beating each other. It really has been nice to see the district turn into a 3 team race as it makes it more exciting. How is the weight lifting program up there on the hill?

I fully expect PC to build off the success they had on the field and see a substantial increase in numbers. Wouldn't surprise me to see Pike Central go from a 50 man team to a 60 or 65 man team next year.

On a side note PCC needs to add visitor seating next year as I expect attendance to also substantially rise.

nope they loose chandle and the meade kid but they do return the johnson kid thats really all the talent that i seen they return as far as skill guys go they also got some decent linman returning.

McGuire, Chandler, and Meade are their big losses. People say that Johnson may move to Pikeville cause of PC not being nearly as strong.

When your QB has skills of a receiver and the speed of a back, that's hard to replace.

McGuire will be a tough QB to replace with his running ability, but they have a QB already groomed to replace McGuire in the throwing aspect of the game. Landon Tackett, who was the JV QB, will assume the position, unless another QB comes in or someone else steps up. For everyone who had the opportunity to see Landon throw this past year, most will agree, Landon can throw with anyone! Good luck Central on the up coming season, we're pulling for another great season!

Meade, will be replaced by #11 Justin Smith, who saw some time in that position this past year, and #8 Robbie Simpkins should be a nice replacement for Chandler, but who knows with the speed of #22 Johnson....He may move to the speed back, and Smith be the power back... More to come in 2010, a lot of young talent in the works with Central, 2008, middle school runner-up to Belfry, JV this past year "Very" good took P-Burg 3 out of 3 games and fell to Belfry in down to the wire games, Sheldon clark won in closing plays of 4th quarter.... 3A in the next several years may be a 3 way race for this region! Great mountain football to come to those who enjoy High School Football!

Central started with 53 total players, 24 freshman to build on.

I don't think that there's a bit of danger of Johnson going to Pikeville. That's a laugh. :lmao: There are several young, strong and talented athletes remaining. You never replace anyone......others just step up and prepare to make their place on the team. The Hawks will be ready to roll when the 2010 season makes an appearance.....no doubt. I look for them to be full of even more surprises than the 2009 team....I anticipate an exciting ride for the 2010 Hawks and their fans....whom by the way have multiplied unbelievably. So, any wishful thinkers that would believe that any of the hawks will be leaving the nest are just that....."wishful thinkers." :popcorn:

I think the only problem Central will have is where to play everyone it has on the team, and make way for the new people who wants to come in and be a part of the "Hawks-Nest"! It is true, there are "MANY" kids that walk the hallways at Pike Central who could be a great part of the football program, who in the past never had the spirit or opportunity to be great, but this year has opened some eyes, as to what can be accomplished if everyone pulls together and wants to win, I see great things in the up coming years for the Hawks!

Landon Tackett will be stepping up for the Hawks as QB next season along with a host of young freshman and sophmore talent.

Whys that? His chances of winning region are much greater at Pikeville then at Central, don't get me wrong PCC deff had the chance to do that this year, but that's only because Belfry was down and was knocked off by SC in the second round, it won't be like this for more than maybe another year if that and Belfry will be back winning region yearly, so if the kid stays hoping to win a region title at PCC with a good Belfry team in the picture it's slim to none, until PCC can beat Belfry yearly I wouldn't stick around at PCC hoping to achieve greatness,maybe so in a few years down the road this will be possible but not any time soon

and you make this statement when Pikeville lost to a terrible Harlan team and also has a very tough Hazard team in their region? I just dont see your point...this point would be much more valid if we were speaking of district but I think the two programs in question are on the same level with region play since the addition of Chapman and company...

Johnson, has no reason to prove anything to anybody, for what reason would he up-root his ties at Pike Central where all his friends are, and go to a school where he has to settle into a new way of doing things....With Chapman, he ( Johnson) knows where he stands...At Pikeville????? Who knows?

The area will be surprised next year when Johnson grows even more and dishes out some awesome hits! Zack has speed and power, and Chapman knows how to utilize it at Pike Central...end of story:

As long as Chapman is there, Pike Central will be the next new big thing. Pikeville Independent is really in danger.

Yes, Pikeville lost to Harlan and they've been down the last 2 years, but Pikeville is a small school, you have your down years every now and then, but they have plenty of tradition and they'll bounce back and be Pikeville again soon enough, and once the seniors and juniors graduate at Hazard they'll be back to normal and region won't be as tough

Chapman will make the PCC program good theres no doubt, but once Belfry gets the train rolling again it won't matter, they'll be dominating region again like they have been, with the exception of this year of course

Yep thats the word. At this stage of the discussion i would say the chances are around 60-40 in favor of him going to Pikeville. Personally I think it would be a huge mistake but the people whispering in his ear may have caught his attention as well as his families.

But regardless if he goes or stays he could be replaced easily
but who in the right mind would switch from pike central to pikeville.
Pikeville has alot of players that played this year that arent playing next year.Pike central made it farther AND they have a better coach
And on the plus side pike central is getting some transfers for next year

I am close with his father Joe, and I know how much he loves Zach playing for Coach Chapman. I would be very very surprised to see Zach leave PCC his senior year to goto Pikeville. That would be a downgrade at this point and I just don't see it happening.

I have heard from a "very reliable source" that there have already been several players transfer from the city school to Pike Central. I am not aware of any transferring to the city school system. Pikeville has a lot of history....but that's just it.....it's all history. Without the support of the administration (of which it is apparent), no coach will be successful regardless of their knowledge and abilities. It's pretty evident with the fact that the system has been unable to keep a coach for more than a couple of years for the past several years. Either the administration has made some pretty poor choices or maybe it's more likely that they just need to look in the mirror to see where the problem lies.

I do agree yes Pikeville has the better tradition and it is easier for them (Pikeville) to take control of district and region. However, I think kids in this area are tired of being forshadowed by the 80s, they (players) from what I hear to not like Ben Howard and that right there is where you gain and maintain kids. Pikeville had what looked liked to be one of the best coaching staffs in the state and honestly it didnt look even close to that troughout the season. I think Pikeville will continue to decline they have no sports teams to draw in kids for football from years past. Basketball has been decent, Baseball traditionaly at Pikeville hasnt produced many football players (Huffman) is an exception, Soccer will fold soon, so kids are looking else where to attend right now. Another thing is Pikeville is going to be killed by this new rule that they can only accept so many kids from the county schools (that was passed right?) and test grades are also improving in the county schools once again Pikeville is losing their edge. Its interesting how everything has played out since I was in high school the area programs have DRASTICALLY CHANGED

I could really care less what Pikeville, or Belfry does all I am interested in is who is transferring to PC not away from PC, because that is the players who will participate on the field next season. I feel that PC will be just as good if not better next season another year in the weight room and another year for the coaching staff to gel is going to ake a huge difference at PC. The Hawks will be working hard
