Yeah, it looks like Somerset will be the lone mountain team in Bowling Green! Never expected Prestonsburg to lose but Congrats to DeSales and Congrats to Prestonsburg on a great season. Also, i would like to Congratulate Mr. Burchett for an amazing performance this season!!

Well Prestonsburg, I know its hard to end the season like this. But i just wanted to tell you all that you all had a GREAT season. Seem's like it was a dogfight the whole game but you just feel a little short. Everyone thought you all was going to be down this year and not be that great, but you proved Everyone wrong and had a amazing year and probally one of the best in history of Prestonsburg. Keep your heads up boys and come out next year and have another great season. Goodluck next year boys.!

Wow, I'm a little surprised. I had Prestonsburg winning this one. The mountains are taking it on the chin tonight.

The radio said Prestonsburg only had one take away on the turnovers, and I know they had 3-4 turovers themselves........
Prestonsburg had an awesome season..... and at the beginning of the year everyone thought they were gonna be down.......

First off, congrats to P'Burg you guys had a very good team, and that QB is **** good. You guys were very small but did not allow our O-line to dominate like I thought, our offense wasn't very good tonight.
That said,HUGE congrats to ym Colts who reach the finals for the first time since 1981 and have proved the doubters wrong all year.Defense mad esome huge stops and overcame a slow offensive night and the worst kicking performance of the season,by far.
Congrats to both teams.

What a season for Blackcat football.
This is an absolute heartbreaker for those seniors. Michael Burchett (arguably the best quarterback to ever play for Prestonsburg), had about an incredible of a year as you could ask for. Burchett was in my mind, the Mountain MVP this season. He really developed from last year to this season. No one ever dreamed he or the Blackcats would have this kind of a season. This team had the guts, the heart, and the smarts to get as far as they got. They were an absolute joy to watch all season. This team had the quarterback, the receivers, the speed, and most everything you could ask for (except for a power running attack) to get the job done.
Tonight was just the Colts' night. They got the turnovers they needed (which is what hurt Prestonsburg the most) and executed on the offensive end with the running game. Ryan Johnson done a heck of a job tonight at quarterback for DeSales. #1 had a great night on the ground as well. Prestonsburg couldn't control the clock and couldn't keep the Colts defense on the field. Still though, turnovers was the difference in the game. Three turnovers and only forcing one turnover won't get you too far.
Congrats Colts and good luck in the championship game. You have a heck of a football team!
I want to take this time to make a sort of tribute to all those seniors for the Blackcats. Heck of a season guys! Nothing to be ashamed of guys, you just had a historic year. To Michael Burchett, Tyler Hall, Cameron Tincher, Austin McKinney, Josh Craynon, Zak Key, Josh Blackburn, Cody McCoy, and Jerry Hicks..thanks for being so much fun to watch this season! Good luck with whatever each of you do!

Hey great season P-Burg you all have brought back that Blackcat pride your alls community has been missing hopefully this will bring more kids out for this program because with its rich tradition it deserves more than 25 players...Heck of a season...and a BIG should out to Derositt and the coaching staff I have known them for a long time and they are some great guys and they took a what seemed to be not such a great team during the preseason and turned them into "champions"...

Very cold night in Louisville...
2 things made the difference in this game: Turnovers and DeSales depth and numbers.
Prestonsburg was -2 in the takeaway category tonight. That has been rare for this season. Couple of early picks and a fumble to start the second half. With Prestonsburg's defensive philosophy, takeaways are imperative. Just didn't happen tonight.
DeSales just simply had more bodies and quality depth to throw at the Blackcats. I believe they rotated at least 9 different defensive backs throughout the game. They have a few players that play both ways, but have alot that don't, too. In the third quarter, the Blackcats really began to tire, and it was obvious that DeSales was the much fresher team. Prestonsburg really only rotates about 15 players for any meaningful minutes, and most of them play both ways. The big city depth, size, and speed made the difference.
Tonight was the first night that Prestonsburg's quickness on the Offensive and Defensive lines was matched by an opposing team. When you add in the fact that DeSales was much bigger sizewise than the Cats, it makes it tough for your O and D lines.
DeSales is a very, very good team. They have alot of size, alot of quickness, tons of speed, and alot of depth. I hope they win it all. I commented about the fans before from our game 2 years ago with them, and the same held true tonight. I spoke to some fans before and after the game, and they were first rate. Very complimentary, very classy, and again, a pleasure to compete against. It sure would be nice to face them at home one year.
Positives for Prestonsburg: Offensively, when Michael had time to throw, he was great as usual. DeSales brought alot of pressure from different places. They went to a nickel package alot, and blitzed alot of people from different angles, which made it tough to block them all.
Defensively, Prestonsburg had moments of excellent play. The turnovers all led to DeSales points, so if you take those away, the game gets real intersting. There was a stretch in the second quarter where Prestonsburg LB Alex Griffith dominated the field. I think he made 6 consecutive tackles on one DeSales possesion. However, as the game wore on, and as our defensive players got worn down by playing both ways, DeSales size and numbers simply made the difference.
Tought loss for the Blackcats, but everyone needs to step back from the ledge and think about some things. First, NO ONE expected this kind of year from the Cats. The Seniors are to be commended. They simply refused to lose in alot of games this year, and their leadership and grit was contagious. Could anyone in their right mind have expected an undefeated regular season from this little squad of around 30 players? Undefeated District and Regional championships are an amazing feat for this team. The players are all to be praised for their effort, heart, grit, and leadership. And, the coaches need to be applauded too. I can't remember any staff that did a better job of coaching up their players than this staff.
I am a Pburg alum, and played on some pretty dang good teams back in the 80's. However, I am more pleased with this team than any that I ever played on. They were so fun to watch. They played with alot of heart, never quit or layed down, and played some excellent football.
The Seniors will be missed, but they have laid a foundation for excellence that hopefully will be built upon, improved on, and perfected until Prestonsburg FINALLY brings home a state championship.
Great year, guys. I salute you, and pray nothing but good things for you as you go forth from here.

Prestonsburg had their chances to win the game, but come up short. Our defense did an excellent job IMO. The offense did good, but holding off those big boys on the D-line is no easy task and they put a lot of pressure on Burchett just as I thought they would. But a couple of plays made the differences in the game. It was a great game to be at as the atmosphere was electric and I loved every minute of it. Hate to see our boys lose, but they had a great season and everyone of these seniors will be remembered for quite sometime, just like the boys are remembered from that '93, '01, and '04 teams. Hopefully this successful season will get some more boys out of the hallways and onto the football field.
Congrats DeSales!

For the first time in 28 years, the DeSales Colts are going to play in a state championship football game
http://www.courier-journal.com/article/2...burg+33-28
Not since the Colts lost to Henry Clay 20-7 in the 1981 Class4-A final have they battled for a state crown. They earned their latest chance by knocking off previously undefeated Prestonsburg 33-28 Friday night in a 2-A semifinal at Southern High School.
With senior Andrew Beeler running for 186 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries and senior quarterback Ryan Johnson playing a major role again, the Colts stretched their winning streak to eight games.
Coach Mark Sander's team will take an 11-3 record into Friday's 4p.m. EST final against Fort Campbell (14-0), which beat Monroe County 30-16 in Clarksville, Tenn
“Some of us have been thinking about this since the eighth grade when we won the Toy Bowl at St.Nicholas,” Beeler said. “Of course, this is bigger.”
DeSales had to withstand a fine performance by Prestonsburg quarterback Michael Burchett, who competed 25of38 passes for 361 yards and four TDs as the Blackcats finished 13-1.
Burchett erased a 13-0 deficit and put Prestonsburg ahead 14-13 at halftime with scoring passes to John Craynon and Tyler Hall. But DeSales, which was knocked out by Newport Central Catholic in the semis in 2007 and the regional final last year, came back strong.
“It was determination,” said Johnson, whose 16-yard TD run around left end put DeSales ahead for good at 26-22 with 5:23 left in the third quarter. “We set a goal to go to the final last summer. This is our home field, and we weren't going to lose at home.”
Sander, an All-Stater at DeSales who went on play linebacker for the University of Louisville and the Minnesota Vikings, reached one of his goals in his eighth season as coach.
I'd probably say this win ranks right up there at the top, but we've had other great wins,” he said. “I'm still in shock — not that we beat them, but that we're going to the state championship game. I thought our kids hung their heads at halftime, and I told them they had to regroup and step it up on the next play.”

Prestonsburg had a great season and played an outstanding game. People in the mountains should be very proud of them. I think their coaching staff did a great job. I feel that they are a very underrated staff. I can't wait to see them bring a state championship back to the mountains. It will eventually happen.

Well written post Cats86. Thanks for the compliment about the DeSales fans. We always pride ourselves on showing good sportsmanship. P'Burg fans were great too. That was the largest crowd we saw this year across the field. Your kids should be proud of your community support. It certainly was an exciting game. I hope as many DeSales fans make the trip to Bowling Green for the finals. It's going to be hard for most of our Alumni to make it to BG for a 3:00 game on a Friday. Congrats to Prestonsburg for a fine season. Maybe we'll see you guys again next year.

Cats86, great post and thanks for the words,it was a great game for sure. I did feel like the numbers got to your guys but for only rotating 16 players or so you guys showed alot of toughness and conditioning,it was impressive.
I felt like the DeSales offense was sluggish most of the night due to way to many dumb penalties and ultra conservative playcalling.Johnson can throw the football and I was wondering why we didn't open things up more.
All in all though,it was a super game and both teams should be proud. Just hope we can knock off that giant named Ft Campbell.
