Belfry 2010
#1
What do you expect out of the pirates next year? I know they have three HUGE holes to fill in varney, maynard, and chanccy. What do you expect?
#2
they lose the mr.everthing varney, and maynard, and lovern, in the backfield, and on the defenseive side of the ball, the same three plus corey charles, they do return alot though on the line,qb,fb,and the linebacker spot on defense........the biggest questions would prob be who starts at the hb spots, they will have plenty to choose from,so look for another good year next year,i look for them to start another run to at least the semis next year....lets hear some thoughts on this.TongueirateShoTongueirateShoTongueirateSho

Belfry will be Belfry...good
#4
Big things in 2010. It's Nathan Carroll's year.
#5
The biggest initial questions will be the halfback spots. Belfry has a lot of good linemen returning and a bunch of tight ends. Filling a couple of secondary spots and the backfield will be key. Belfry will be fine. It will be interesting if Trey Willis plays. If he does, then he will contribute heavily in the backfield and there may be a surprise or two as to a couple of new members of the backfield.
#6
Whats the incoming freshman class look like?
#7
Nathan Carrol will be the go to guy in the backfield IMO with hopefuly Trey Willis being his running mate. I think the offense will be more balanced and dynamic due to a little more balance which is key for the offense the pirates run. However its a little scary knowing there will be 2 new cornerbacks and a new free safety, maybe a lil rough againt the pass early. Linebacking should not be a problem hopefully Mullins and Runyon continue to grow and if they do they could specal on defense together. But the most important part of the team is the beef up front on both sides of the ball which I don't know much about hopefully they will be BIG and MEAN.
#8
Willis and the development of Gary Runyon are critical...

Belfry will be better defensively by the end of next season. The line play will be more consistent as well, but the loss of Varney and Maynard on offense may have a bigger impact then when Belfry lost Jones and Howard because of the apparent lack of playmakers on the depth chart if Willis can't heal up.

People won't like this next thing, but unless either 3A is down across the board like this year, or Belfry improves significantly, I dont see the Pirates being a true contender for the championship at this point. My gut instinct is the talent pool is going through a little bit of a dip and we won't see that next wave of dominant players work their way into the varsity ranks for a couple more years. Next year's team can still make a lot of noise, but it is going to require a lot of effort in the offseason to shore up
#9
they are aslo starting a wresting team this year that will help with there strength
#10
Way early I know but does anyone know who they have in the Pike County Bowl next season?
#11
Covington Holy Cross
#12
So then I take it the format and teams will be the same as this season.

I was told this, my question is who is coaching it........wrestling is not something you can just "wing" and unless Belfry has hired a new teacher 0 people have ANY experience.

Haywood must be retiring and Matney must be coming back :lmao:

At this point....I think this is a spot on analysis.....

IMO, 2011 will be the year you'll see Belfry make another serious run at a championship.

They have a wrestling coach, not sure on his experience though. Not sure on the first name but he is a Coleman. For any Belfry grads from the early to late 90's the new coach is Eric Coleman's little brother. I believe Eric graduated in '93 but not sure about his little bro.
#17
Belfry had more kids on the sideline than many know about with a LOT of talent. They will be fine this year and they will be as prepared next year, as they were this year... Have a little faith people!!! There ARE more than 3 or 4 kids on the team!!!

Think Belfry is good as always but not strong enough to make it to the championship. Region finals is very achievable but unless they come out with a seriously improved line thats about it. Both sides of the ball need to get bigger on the line. I think the biggest key player next year on both sides is Runyon.

Coach Haywood going to be there coach? They are doing it right. This will really help there football program. Glad to see someone is doing things right.

I hate to disagree with you EKU but I believe they will actually be better as a team next year than they were this year of course losing Varney hurts but I don't see losing maynard being that big of a loss ....JMO...As long as the line is improved I think you will see better rushing stats next year than you saw this year. Turnovers and line play ore often than not are the determining factor for a typical Befry team ( not including the years wth radiculous talents in the backfield....Jones, Howard, May and Varney).

Nathan Coleman? He is one of the football coaches too isn't he? I thought I saw him on the sideline.

They have no experience with wrestling. This may end up the same kind of deal like track, that Matt Varney does..
#27
They may not have any experience, but they are doing what Johnson Central, Sheldon Clark, and Perry Central are doing. This will help them and it has show to be successful. Letcher Central doesn't take it seriously like they should, but we have had 3 regional champs come out of wrestling, numerous runners up, and two top 10 state competition finalist. Belfry will use this program not only to help get a new sport going, but help there football programs also.

The kid I have not heard anyone speak of is a kid who was a strong, and speedy runner in Middle School when you guys took us( PCMS) our first year after JC and Mullins joined...The kid went to Mullins in early elementary and transferred to Belfry...."Blake Newsome" does he not play any more, or is he one of the long list of HB you have?

Yes, Blake plays.... He was only a freshmen this year.... JUST an example of what Belfry has on the sidelines!! Smile

We would've had a transfer who's been here all year but for some reason wasn't allowed to play this year, but now it's looking like he's moving back. He'll be a senior and the kid is GOOD.

Here's a question for you guys, what do you guys think the 2 big incoming freshman Sani Warren and Justin Johnson will do? Will they have any role on the varsity offense or will they be JV and freshman monsters? Since the past 2 years Belfry has played freshman, I suppose anything could happen.
