What is your local school's football team best rival as a historic resource?.....Personally with my team it would have to be overall Rockcastle County and Knox Central which played each other dating back to 1977.:redboxer:Last time Rockcastle beat Knox Central in the regular season was 2006 (22-7), and in the playoffs was 2007 (14-0).

That would be considered IMO and has to be one of the most storied, anticipated, and recognized rivals in Kentucky High School Football overall.:Thumbs:Thats a real good one.

Boyle County's biggest rival is Danville by a mile. Lex Cath is a rival on a much smaller scale.

 Agreed.

Sometimes Big Rivals are dictated by the times and districts.

For example at Boyle:

From the mid 70's to at least '80 or so Harrodsburg was a HUGE rivalry to the two. Mainly because of two games: 1976 Boyle upsets #1 A Harrodsburg 20-14 and 1977 Harrodsburg beats Boyle 60-0. That freshman class of '77 never allowed the Pioneers to score the next three years.

Somerset was a huge District rivalry in Boyle's eyes from '79 to '82 prior to sub-districts.

Now, one school doesn't exist anymore and the other is never on the schedule.

Pikeville vs Belfry
Pikeville vs Beechwood

These may have lost a little luster but have plenty of history.

Im from Pikeville but this would be one of the first couple statewide rivalries I would think of.

Johnson Central before that died out and we still have Prestonsburg and Pikeville.

Fleming-Neon vs Whitesburg. Dates back to the beginning of both schools in the early 1900's.

And speaking of FNHS football. Here's a newspaper clipping of one of my relatives. The stat sheet is from the year that we had our best chance at winning a state championship. Notice FNHS's passing stats vs Erlanger-Lloyds...haha

Whitley and lynn Camp have the second longest running rivalry in the state dating back to 1965 i believe.

I know this series has turned lopsided into Whitley favor, with Whitley winning every year since 1990 except for to years (05 and 07) i believe.

Many people including myself would like to see Whitley replace LC with a Corbin or a Knox Central but i can see why the Colonels keep them on there schedule since they have been playing every single year for that long.

The Whitley county school didnt even consolidate till around 1963 so they have played ever since Whitley has been around.

One other thing, I believe Whitley has only lost to LC once at home and that was in 1965.

Mayfield vs Paducah Tilghman

This year was the 96 or 97th meeting between these two schools.

Mayfield vs Graves County is up there just in how many come to see the game. It looks like the whole county is in or around War Memorial.
