Leslie County has not had a good team since the Tim Couch era. What has happened in Hyden? Is it to many drugs? Booz? Or lack of interest? Coaching? I have no clue. Are they out of D-bol over there? Dont look like their kids are in the weightroom very much these days. I remember back in the Couch era, if you couldnt bench press over 300 pounds you couldnt be on the varsity over there. Maybe they need to get Randy Williams back.

I guess nobody in Leslie County has internet access yet. Or nobody gives a crap about Leslie County.

Can't say much for myself but I have several friends in Leslie County and the greatest complaint I hear is the current coaching staff has ran more players off than they are keeping, and politics rule. If I were whoever is in control of who has the coaching job I would drop to my knees and crawl to Whitesburg and beg Mike Whitaker to come back and put pride back into the grade school program that it one time had, too much talent has come out of Leslie County in the past to be in the shape it is in today

First of all, this statement is very inappropriate with unjustified accussations and am shocked that the mods would allow such.
As far as the thread goes, Leslie has had troubles and am surprised that a change has not been made.

I have heard the Coach's are the problem, but that is just what I've heard, also ask one time why Tim Couch doesn't support the team/school system more and I was told that he doesn't like the way things are done in Leslie County. From the top (superintendent) to the bottom (coaches I guess).
Again this is just what I've heard from people in Leslie.

You see more of the Couch family at Letcher County Central games then Leslie County.

Leslie Co. has had a great program in the past. Floyd Hines got things rolling. Mike Whitaker played for him, Mike needs to go home and rebuild a rich program. Politics have always been huge in Leslie Co. but the time has come to bite the bullitt and do what the kids need done.

Well they deserve better. Nobody used to want to schedule Leslie County. Now people are lined up looking for an easy win each year by playing them. They need to go out and hire an entire new staff from the looks of things. I think all their sports programs are lacking.

From the people I talk too, there is not much talent at the HS right now, but they have a good group coming. If they can keep them out.

It will take as long to build up as long as it has taken to tear down. It starts out with the grade schools, working with and building pride. At one time whoever wore the maroon and gold under Floyd Hines he taught to be bigger, faster. and stronger, and you would be just that. I heard politics is what ran Mike Whitaker off and it is so sad. But if Leslie replaces someone don't do the traditional hire of the brothers, cousins, sisters, moms son that works at the board of education office, thats why programs get in such shapes.:HitWall:

A Floyd Hines Coached teams was never out worked. Floyd was 20 years ahead of his time. Leslie Co. was the only team in Eastern Ky. throwing the Football. Look at all the great QB Leslie has had over the years. Onzie Sizemore, Mike Whitaker, Greg Couch, Tim Couch and Quenton Morgan to name several, I'm sure there were more. Leslie Co. needs to do what needs to be done to bring this once proud program back.

I'd say offer the job to the current coach at McCreary Central, Clinton Gay. I understand that he is from Leslie and has ties to the Couch famliy. Over the past 4 years, the Raiders have steadily improved to the point of 7-3 this season--making the play-offs each of the past 3 seasons.
So.... my vote goes to the bring Gay home association!!!

I think it's just because Leslie dosen't produce enough talent to be good, they did when Couch was there but that was then, they had a great group of boys but thats it, leslie is a team that is good every now and then when a good group comes along, not a traditional good year n and year out team, so i wouldnt worry why they aren't or havent been good, just wait for the next group of good kids to come along is all i can say for the leslie fans

I think that Leslie Co needs to go out and get a new coach or get an older experienced coach that has had success! When the coach comes in they need to initiate the Bigger, Faster, Stronger program! It's a great program that from my experience works really well. I know whenever i player highschool football it was a requirement that you had to be able to bench 250 before you could start on varsity! Another thing that they should consider doing, is when and if they get a new coach they need to do alot of promoting throughout the highschool and the middle school in order to get more kids interested in playing football!

If the job comes open Leslie needs to bring someone in with Leslie Co. Ties, someone who knows the people and the community, someone who will work from pee wee league on up to build this program back. There are a lot of former players and coaches that would love to see this program back on track.

If the job comes open I would bring in the best person for the job. Hometown boys doesn't always mean success and many times it brings more politics into it due to family ties. Lets look at the coaches in Eastern Kentucky that have one state titles in the last several years.
Dudley Hilton - coaches Bell County and is from Washington County
Mike Holcomb - coaches Breathitt County and I believe(not sure) that he is from Nelson County.
Philip Haywood - coaches Belfry and I believe he might be from Prestonsburg.

This is not a knock on Leslie Co. or their program. If they were to go after another head coach, what would they have to offer? Again, I don't mean this to sound negative. Why would a successful, heck even a non successful head coach want to go to Leslie Co. and coach? One more time, this is not intended as a bash.

I agree with you he would be a great fit, friends with the Couch familey, has coached at Leslie under Floyd Hines. IMO: I don't think Coach Gay would go back to Leslie County.:HitWall:

One thing I have noticed is that everyone mentions whether or not someone is friends with the Couch family. WHO CARES. Theres other people in Leslie County other than Couchs. Tim was a **** of a player but its over now. What does being friends with the Couchs have to do with coaching at Leslie? Does Tim's dad run the program over there?
Leslie County would be a great place to coach I think. Its a good football atmosphere. Everyone I know from Leslie County is friendly. The people are not snooty. I have been around them all my life and all of the people from Leslie County are very helpful and seem to care a lot about the kids over there. I would love to seem them be more successful. I just dont know what is wrong over there. Hopefully they will get it fixed soon. If the pay is right and they dont put to much teaching on the Head Coach then maybe they could get them a good hire. There not a lot going on in Leslie County other than Athletics so it should be a coaches dream. Maybe they dont pay the coaches enough, I dont know.

Tim's Dad, Mr. Elbert Wayne Couch, never did run the program over there. IMO: He just let Tim and Greg play football and play very well they did. I think people say getting them involved in the program would be a plus. Leslie County games usta be the place to be on a Friday night.:Cheerlead

Good post here, Does anyone know of any sure talk of coaching change in Leslie County?
I agree with going out of county, yes its good to have someone that is familar with the kids but the risk of getting someone like that would possibly fall back in the political trap that others have fallen into. I think the Couch family would support anyone that was working hard to develope the kids in football and in life. Not to say they need it I remember of years ago Leslie County was a great support to its program on its on and probably still tries to be.

I agree the County wants and deserves to be back on top. The Couch familey as well as the majority of the County would work with anyone willing to put the time and effort into the job. At this point they have a Coach.

Does anyone expect a coaching change in Leslie County now or will it wait until the playoffs are over ?
