they have played ironton brother they can handle big boys they also held up at jc and almost won. i know russell hasn't played anyone big so you shouldn't be talking. that puney defense whipped your devils and and they weren't bad size, honestly i thought you guys would have put up a fight.

OK how about Ironton explain that win, and explain how they came back against a team twice their size

You're speaking as a fan because losing to Ashland is hard to swallow. If Ironton and Belfry don't have decent size I'll eat my sombrerro. I actually saw Ironton cave in in their match up with the Cats. That's not to say that attrition has not taken its toll on Ashland but, they're not going to run home to momma like you wish they would. They will show up and play and leave it all out there. Linemen have stepped up this year when their number was called and that has been a big deal as next year all this experience will pay big dividends and Ashland will be strong and solid again. I predict Dixie will come to Ashland and find a determined group on defense waiting for them. I do believe that Dixie will feel like they have something to prove because of last year's loss to Ashland but the Tomcat defense is stronger too. If Ashland is in any way not ready to play they very well could get smacked this Friday but that is very unlikely IMO. If Ashland didn't learn anything else at Johnson Central they know now that the other team is not going to wait around for them to get "warmed up", they'll be ready.

The schools don't like each other and that's what makes it a rivalry.

Dixie will win in a close one due to the tougher schedule they have played this year. This is not a knock on Ashland's schedule, Northern Kentucky football is a whole other class.

I would have liked to think that what makes it a rivalry is that both schools have a good likelihood of putting a good team on the field. Teams that are well coached and have a competitive heart at their core. This along with talent means that only your very best effort on the field will give your team the victory, in other words the challenge is always there. Let me ask you a question, say for the sake of argument that the government forced everybody in Russell to move to Ashland and everybody in Ashland was forced to move to Russell. Would you then not like Russell people or would you stick with not liking Ashland? Or were you just speaking figuratively?

I have a few friends from Ashland Its all different when you graduate as far as friends from other schools.
When I was in school Russell and Ashland students fist fought all the time.

i can honestly say that you are right, although i do not think this rivalry exists
in football anymore.

I can think of many other sports a lot in girls where Russell pretty much dominates Ashland almost every year. Also just because Ashland has won the past 2 football meetings the rivalry is still there. Its not like Russell hasn't won in 5 or 10 years.

4A Boyd 2-8

1A Raceland 6-4
4A Greenup Co 3-7
two bad 5A teams Mont. co and Woodford
Not what I would call a tough schedule and would be boasting about being so great. You have to play the big boys to be at the top. I am not saying you will not beat Dixie ( not impressed with them at all), but that would be a ticket to a good old fashioned butt kicking in round two.
I don't know how you can include Belfry in that weak schedule! Belfry is one of the best teams in eastern ky!

Dixie's QB will have a huge night. This kid is underrated and Klei? will provide the icing on the cake. Dixie 42 Ashland 35.

Was it not a rivalry when Russell won three out of four from 04 to 07?
I think Ashland wins this game by a good margin. That small defense is quick and tough. I don't think Dixie will be able to stop Ashlands offense either. The Tomcats really spread teams out and create running lanes. Ashland by two TDs.

All things considered, I think this could be the most entertaining game of the four in the first round. I'm going to the Highlands game because it's here, but I wouldn't mind making the trip to Ashland to see these two duke it out.:redboxer::rockon::ChairHit::HitWall:

What? How did Highlands come into the conversation? I know you're not gonna try to say that because Dixie Heights played a team like Highlands that they can beat Ashland when Highlnds chewed up, spit out, and then threw DH into the garbage can with a 52-9 victory! So please tell me what kind of relevance this statement has towards what i said?

Dixie may have gave up 59 points to highlands and only scored 9 but they beat beechwood 47-7 Newport Central Catholic 19-7 Lost to cov cath 39-34, lost 28-21 to Boone County. They put up 28 on one of the top ranked 6a teams in Simon Kenton. All this info alone tell me that this game will be no pushover for Ashland.

Please noone is saying the tomcats win with ease but I think the tomcats would be the 2nd best team in highlands district so throw nky out of it

Ashland has no problem handling the bigger guys up front! Ironton averages almost 280lbs across the front line. I haven't seen Dixie but I'd venture to say they are not any bigger than that. The key to this game will be if Ashlands defense can stop Dixies offense. Dixie seems to be a pretty good team but have problems with shooting themselves in the foot. I look for a high scoring game.
