Girls 8th Grade State Tournament KBA
#1
Who are some of the best teams in the state? Who will compete for the right to call themselves state champs and play in Rupp?
#2
From the teams I have seen, Whitley County is the best. I think they should be able to compete with almost anyone in the state.
#3
Here are some good teams that will be at the 8th grage girls state tournamment....I'm sure there are more that I have missed...

Whitley Co.
Larue Co.
Anderson Co.
McNabb
Lincoln Co.
AB Combs
Clay Co.
Leslie Co.

Got to see Anderson play Whitley. Great game that Anderson pulled out late. Both those teams should be tough.
#5
If Verity can take care of the ball, they should be able to make a nice run at it.
#6
I wanted to let you know that you can add Crosby Middle School, from Louisville to that list of teams playing in the State Tournament. They just had there first game at a tournament this past weekend in E-town, and will be starting their regular season games on November 4th.

Hey we look forward to seeing all the good teams for a great tournament. I forgot to put Casey County and Southwestern Pulaski on my list. There are alot of good teams out there with alot of talent who could win on any given day. It should be a great time for all the girls. Good Luck to all!

Hopefully Corbin will play in it, they have beaten several of the teams listed above.

Has Corbin and Whitley CO. played this year?

Corbin beat them by 12-15 points. Whitley did not make any adjustments when Corbin, who basically plays 5 guards, spread the floor and beat them off the dribble. Whitely continued to play man to man and there were some match-up problems that Corbin took advantage of.

I heard it was a very bad officiated game in favor of Corbin. So I don't think the final score is a real indication of Corbin's or Whitley's abilities. I also heard that Corbin would not reciprocate and play Whitley on their home court and chose to forfeit instead. It will be real interesting if they meet again on a neutral floor. What is Corbin's final reqular season record?

Corbin did not cancel the game, Whitley did because their fans got way too excited at the first game and were afraid of what might happen down there. Corbin's coach said that he was wanting to go down there and play, thought it would be good for his kids to experience such a hostile environment as long as the fans controlled themselves.

I saw that game, looked like it was officiated about like any other middle school game. Whitley Co. just got out-coached badly and the fans, well I don't really know how to explain how they acted, although I did feel bad for the Whitley fans who were embarrassed by the actions of a few of their own. I would like to see these two meet on a neutral floor, should be a good game.
#14
What hostile environment? We have never had any problems playing Whitley Co at home or at their place. Fans have always acted like normal people. Wasn't Corbin suppose to play in the Whitley Co. tournament? Why did they pulled out of that as well. I heard it was a good tournament. Didn't Corbin play the first day of the BCI "Queen of the Mountains Tournment"? Why did they pull out and not play the second day? That would of been a good opportunity for these two teams to meet on a neutral floor. In case you don't know Whitley beat AB Combs by 21pts. for the Title. Oh well, maybe the truth as too who is the best will come out at the State Tournament. Should be exciting!!

What did you say Corbin's regular season record is?

You can add Powell County to that list as well...3 years undefeated and they also beat Crosby at Transy Camp over the summer...Cant wait to play some good competition...

What about the forfeits? This can't be correct. After your last response about Whitley Co., I called some people who are in the know....and they assurred me that I had heard correctly....Corbin forfeited the game at Whitley Co. and pulled out of the Whitley 8th grade tournament to which they had previously agreed too. I also asked about the fan's and they said the fan's did nothing, but complain to the Ref's to start calling fouls against Corbin before one of their girls got hurt. Your comment about Whitley fans being embarassed by their own, appears to be incorrect as well. Word has it now...that because of Corbin's actions (not Reciprocating games) there will be no more scheduled regular season middle school games between the two schools. Due to this fact, I'm sorry, but I tend to believe my sources of information and think you might want to re-check yours. Of course none of this matters now.....I hope we get a chance to see for ourselves who is better on a nuetral court. If Corbin is as good as you say......then it will happen at the State Tournament during one of the rounds unless Corbin doesn't show or leaves early again. I have been told Whitley Co. will be there. See you there....Good Luck!

Mine could be wrong, although it was someone at Whitley Co. who told me that the Whitley administration thought it was best for these two teams not to play each other in middle school sports due to the bad blood and the Corbin officials agreed. When police, who were at the game, have to forcibly remove fans from the gym, then maybe it is best they don't play.

I was at the game and I think that Whitley Co. has a better team, but it was not the officials who lost the game for them, it was due to Corbin playing very well and their own coaches inability to make game adjustments. I'm not sure if the Corbin administrators will allow them to play Whitley or not should they match-up in the tournament.

Glad to hear Powell is in it. Good Luck Lady Pirates!

Anyone know when a schedule will be out for the KBA state tourney?
#23
The brackets should be coming out for this tourney. The deadline was Oct. 26th.
#24
I think this is going to be a great tournament.
#25
Add Herald Whitaker (Magoffin Co.) to the list of participants in the KBA state tournament! Smile

I look for Verity 8th probably play their minimum games and be done. The lack of good guard play and literally no patience on offense will catch up to them at state. Just being more athletically is just not going to be enough. I have seen this Verity 8th grade team play 3 times and haven't been impressed yet. They were in my opinion lucky to win the OVC tournament.

I hear what your saying about lack of patience on offense, however with the help from a couple 7th graders they can help settle things down and the rest of the 8th graders have good length, shoot decent, and fairly athletic. the only thing to concern me is the ability to play good defense at every position. anyway good luck next weekend.

I would agree still waiting for this team to just put it all together, hoping its this weekend. They will need some of the 7th to help out to be at thier best though this is a team who won the ovc 2 years in a row and only lost twice last year with no 6th grade help at all and they have the best player off the only ovc team ever to beat these girls on thier team this year. They will be just fine and will grow from the expierence. As for the post of lucky champs i can only chuckle. hehe

I guess going undefeated in the OVC was lucky as well. Good luck at state girls.

If winning 20 games in the season is "luck" those girls play the lottery !!!!

Good luck at state Verity 8th graders. Let's prove OORAH wrong:Cheerlead
