UNION – The first half began with linebacker Court Mace blocking a punt, the second half with big tight end Tate Nichols catching two passes for 37 yards, and in between was a Luke Boggs 42-yard interception-return for TD and a 53-yard scamper by running back Travis Elliott.

Which tells you all you need to know about the Ryle vs. Boone County game Friday night at Ryle.

It was dominated by Ryle, 48-7, before about 3,500 fans of Raider Nation, which secured a No. 2 seed in the district for Ryle and a first home playff game, maybe more.

“In ’06,” said Ryle coach Bryson Warner, “we were a two-seed and wound up with four home playoff game…We’d love that (this time). We love this place, no question.”

How can you not love this place?

Imagine if Warner could get into the stands or see the halftime show: There was made-on-the-spot kettle corn, chili dogs, five different kinds of homemade chilie and a marching band numbering five – count ‘em, 1--2-3-4-5 xylophone players and a instrumentalists with more moves than Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

The best drive of the evening was the one to open the second half, because it appeared that Ryle was determined to show its versatility.

There were the two throws to Stanford University-bound Nichols, a 37-yard bomb to Trenton Fugate, a power run by Elliott and a sweet throw-and-catch TD from quarterback Conner Hempel to Kiefer Eubbank to put Ryle up 34-0.

Elliott, a sophomore, is a terrific running back. He had 147 yards on 10 carrries.

“He’s fun to watch, and he’s fun to block for,” Nichols said.

QB Hempel was 10-for-15 for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite all the offense, Ryle’s defense is what dominated
