Why is Campbell County's mascot called the Camels? What does a camel have to do with Northern Kentucky?

1. Well, the NFL Raiders are such a legendary franchise with a stellar record year in and year out. Who wouldn't want to emulate them?
2. I know a guy who teaches in the Boone County system and we sat at a party one night a couple of summers back coming up with names that would go well with Cooper. Since the last two schools to open in Boone County had been the Conner Cougars and Ryle Raiders, we assumed the Cooper team would follow suit and go with a "C" mascot. Several times we had to stop because of nasal beer leakage, but in the end, the Cooper Cannibals was the best we came up with.
But Jaguars?:please:
Got nothing on the Tigers or the Juggs (except a story some might find offensive,) but I understand that the Panda name came because the initials NDA are featured in PaNDA.
YMMV.

Blue Jacket is the name of a Shawnee War chief. Hockey's Columbus Blue Jackets- I just figured Nicholas County was the same.

I always figured it had something to do with the Civil War.

You're off by about 100 years. Blue Jacket was pre-Revolution my good buddy....

:eyeroll: I was offering a third possibility. That Nicholas County may have been a hotbed of Union sentiment during the Civil War.

I like the Polor Bears to. If you want to talk about having a mascot that doesn't have anything to do with the area, talk about that one.

School nickname was bears put one and one togather and a school's official nickname is born

With the herd of Whitetail deer in the Commonwealth at well over 1 million, I am surprised that some of the newer high schools haven't had "The Whitetails" on their shortlist......some of the biggest Bucks in the state are taken out of Boone County....

Blue Jacket was also involved in the capture of Daniel Boone at Blue Licks, which is also nearby. A great Shawnee war chief.

Boone was a wannabe. Kenton's Ky's real hero!

I also saw where they had one mascot named the snails. He made a comment that it would be bad for the track team.
