Tournament began today at Raceland (small) Verity (large).
Results from Verity West Middle defeated Rowan Co. in both 7th and 8th grades. West will now be playing Verity @ Verity on Tues. at 6:00 and 7:15. In the other games East Middle defeated Boyd Middle in both 7th and 8th grade. A couple of surprises in the 7th East only won by one with Boyd missing a good shot at the end. the 8th grade East was in complete control from the tip and was never really challenged. I was not surprised East won the 8th just with ease in which they did. East will now play the winners on Tuesday's games in the championships next Sat. at Alumni gym.
In the small school 8th grade Lewis Co. defeated Wurtland; Fairview over Raceland and Elliott Co. over McKell. On Thursday Elliott will play #1 seed Russell and Fairview and Lewis will play in the other semifinal game.
In the 7th grade Fairview over Wurtland, McKell over Elliott Co. and Russell over host Raceland. On Tues. Russell will play #1 seed Lewis CO. and McKell will take on Fairview in the other semi-final.

From what I heard, should be solid win for Verity on Tuesday.
Why did Rose Hill not play in the tourney?

I thought russell didn't even have a 7th grade team. since they do why did they not play verity 7th grade when russell 8th grade played verity? they didn't play us last year either cancelling both 6th grade games, that is kinda shady.

there needs to be one more game scheduled between the large school champions and small school champions.just for the record. these schools will have to play each other in high school for the district and region no reason to keep them apart in middle school, if one of them had a great team they would be looking for games, much respect to rosehill for playing the larger schools with less kids than anybody.

Congrats to Verity's 7th and 8th grade teams for going undefeated in the regular season of the OVC.

I except Verity to continue in the OVC tournament tonight. I look for Gransberry, Robinson and Foutch to have a big game tonight. The 8th grade game Vanover, Justice, and Young should do the same.

Verity 7th 38
West Carter 17
Verity 8th 43
West Carter 14
Congrats to both teams and making it to the championship games. Complete games by both teams. Smart move taking Vanover and Justice out early, no need to take chances especially after vanover got her arm awkwardly caught underneath the west player.

Small Schools 7th grade semis played tonight at Raceland. Lewis defeated Russell 44-19 and Fairview defeated McKell 39-29. 8th grade semis are Thursday night. With both finals Sat. afternoon.

Verity 7th and Verity 8th will play East Carter on Saturday for the OVC championship. I expect the the big 3 for each grades to have a good game.

If the Verity 7th graders can stay out of foul trouble they should be able to pull off the win. Gransberry and Foutch will handle the rebounding, and any of the 5 can score.
Verity 8th grade is the heavy favorite in this one. Justice and Vanover will control the boards in this one. Justice should dominate inside and throw in Vanover, Young and Roberts. I believe the last time they played them, Verity was up by 18 early in the 3rd and basically sat Vanover and Justice for the rest of the game and still won by double digits.

They had a lot of talent in the 8th grade, but the coaching decisions were at times questionable.

Newsome
With these four kids on the floor, they should have been a solid team.

How was the all conference team selected not putting down any of these girls but everybody was an 8th grader except the Fraley girl. From the games I seen, Boyd Co, E. Carter, W. Carter, and Verity 7th grade teams were big reasons the 8th grade was successful. Atleast they could have had a 7th and an 8th all conference team
