ICN Game of the Week
#1
Does anyone know how the games of the week are decided? For the past couple years Highlands hasn't been featured. You would think that any Highlands game would be a big draw for T.V. since they're consistently ranked in the Top 3 in KY.

I want to say it has to do with the Cable board of NKY and Campbel county isn't part of it or something along those lines. That's why you see mainly Kenton County teams or at least one of them a Kenton Co team.

I understand that it is Kenton Co. but I really find it funny how the past three years they have not covered one Highlands vs. Cov. Cath. game. Heck, isn't supposedly one of the biggest rivalries in NKY? I guess they only cover the Highlands vs. Cov. Cath. games if they think Cov. Cath. has a chance.:eyeroll:

I don't know. But CovCath isn't on there much if at all. Seems to be the other teams getting most of the love

Cov. Cath. has a game every year. This year it was Campbell Co. on Sept. 11.

I also have noticed that on Thanksgiving they have replays of big games. The only time they replay a Highlands vs. Cov. Cath. game is when Cov. Cath. wins.:lmao:

LOL. O.K. So it isn't just me. I think it's an absolute joke that there is so much bias towards Highlands. I was listening to the Cov. Cath game this past Saturday and all of those jokers were anti-Highlands. Same goes for the announcers at State. Oh well, I guess it's good for ticket sales but they've got to do something about this in the future. Too many of these featured games on ICN are absolute sleepers......

I think Scott at Holmes was one of the featured games last year. That was an insult to sleep. Like watching two 8th grade teams have at it.:HitWall: Amazing how Holmes has turned it around, but I think the drop to 4A helped a lot.

It may be because the City of Ft. Thomas withdrew from the Campbell County Cable Association about 15 years ago. When the local agreement was up for renewal, the City surveyed the residents and very, very few residents were using the public access equipment but the residents were paying collectively a large chunk of money into the Campbell County Cable Association to pay for the public access equipment and facilities. To save residents money, the City elected to withdraw from the Association. Again, not sure if such factors into ICN's decision not to put Highlands on TV, but it may.

Yeah, I remember that. A few years back we lost the channels for Campbell County Schools and several others. Not a big deal, but I had friends whose kids were occasionally on the honor roll or otherwise featured on ICN 15, and I liked to take a peek now and then to see if I recognized any names from my purple and gold days. I also heard them talking at halftime of the Bellevue/Ludlow game and it was mentioned that they try to get every team into the Friday night mix. I'm not sure when the last HHS game was shown on ICN 6, but it may just be that their turn hasn't come around again.
Or maybe they're waiting for that down year for the Birds. :eyeroll::biggrin:

Understand what you are saying but up until three years ago they always had the Highlands / Cov. Cath. series. It just seems that as soon as the '06 season was over, Rodenburg was gone , Cov. Cath. has been , well, alittle down, they don't film the games. People still view this as a NKY rivalry, yet since Highlands has dominated lately the broadcast of the series has ended.

Smells fishy to me.:eyeroll:

Yeah, it seems like there are some matchups that should be featured every year, or at least every other year. Highlands/CovCath, NewCath/Brossart, Dayton/Bellevue, Boone/Ryle and CovCath/Dixie come to mind, but not everyone has a natural rivalry, so I'm not sure how they work it. Eleven weeks in the season give the chance for 22 teams to be featured, so someone is going to be out in the cold every year. Maybe that also has something to do with it.
Bottom line: Let's see Highlands!:rockon::biggrin:

There isn't a doubt in my mind that there is something rotten going on here. It's a shame b/c alot of NKY football fans would love to see the Birds play with the added convenience of television. Again, we're talking about a program that is one of the best in all of Ky. every year....It's a total shame in my opinion. I guess they figure Highlands fans will get there t.v. shot come December......
#13
Yea, you would figure that if national TV wants to come to NKy to film Highlands that the local ICN would slip a game in there against one of there Kenton Co. teams.

I think the game of the week should be Bell County against Harlan County the mountain teams play harder and have more fun than those big city teams IMO and i know the game is not untill next week but given them a chance to change their mind

ICN 6 is a Northern Kentucky cable outlet. Why in the wide wide world of sports would we want to watch those two teams?

Yeah, we know. BELL COUNTY IS GAWD!!! Go water your field.

I know its a northern kentucky cable outlet but why wouldnt you want to watch these two teams it will be a real good game closer than what people think

Because we have more than enough great games in NKY to watch everyweek.
#21
If they don't secure a game next year, there's definitely some funny business going on. It's a shame to deny the public the best football in Northern Kentucky. I'm dropping cable and going with the dish.....

From what I've heard, Highlands doesn't allow any local media outlets (ICN6, TBNK) to broadcast games from David Cecil Memorial anymore...that may be why. I think it may have something to do with their Television Broadcast class doing some games, but not 100% sure, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I know nkysports wanted to broadcast one of their games live over the internet earlier in the year and Dale said no.
#23
Interesting. Too bad for us fans with nothing on t.v. to watch but Desperate Housewives. It's a good thing we have Bluegrass Rivals! How's that for comraderie, Dusty? Truce?

Was it the X game? If so, I believe CBS wouldn't allow any other broadcasts for what should be obvious reasons.

I'm pretty sure it was for every game. The X game was obviously off limits but I know that there were other games that we were interested in doing and Dale said no.

I'm almost positive it has to do with the Television Broadcast class doing some games.

Thanks. I didn't know that.
