Feds: Food stamps swapped for booze, Viagra

DETROIT - Viagra and pornography are not staples on the government's food stamp list. But authorities say a Detroit liquor store supplied them during a series of illegal deals.

Federal prosecutors filed fraud charges this week against three people who worked at Jefferson's Liquor Palace.

The alleged scheme worked this way: Food stamp recipients would get cash from the store in exchange for swiping larger amounts off their electronic cards. The store would then be reimbursed by the U.S. Agriculture Department

This type of fraud goes on all across the Country, billions of dollars annually are wasted, and this admistration thinks they can run the health care system.

Did this type of fraud just start with this administration?

Must be a new type of "stimulus" program

This thread is about one store's abuse of government programs, the fact is this type of abuse of government programs goes on all over the country in all 50 states. If the government does take over the health care then similar types of fraud will take place. This or any other adminstration can not run a health care program without billions of dollars annually being wasted through individual or corporate fraud.

This happens all over the country. Here in Pike County, people either swap their food stamp cards for pills which is the equivalent of swapping them for money or they load up on cases of soda to turn around and sell for money to pills or to trade for pills. So basically, it's grocery money (the food stamp card itself) or groceries for pills in this area.
