Russell @ Mason County 10/9
#1
Russell comes in at 5-2 and Mason County comes in at 6-0

thoughts/predictions on this big district showdown
#2
Russell needs to figure out a way to play error free football to have a good chance of victory. Maybe a little less substitution and a little more consistency - I hate to admit it but it is game 8 and they need to pick their final "A team" and stick with them.
#3
I'd say say Mason wins this one by 2 TDs

I'll take the Royals at home by a couple of TD's.

Good luck to both teams!
#6
Mason 21-10
#7
If the Devils come out and play a mostly mistake free game they can play with Mason County and possibly win.:devilflam:flame:
#8
Lose and your playoff run features visits to both Inez and Pond Creek.
#9
Mc 35-14

Mason County is a tough place to play at and I don't think Russell has found the right personell yet, Royals by 14 pts.

These 2 districts can essentially be viewed as a playoff bracket right now.

Here is what's left in the regular season:
Russell @ Mason County
Sheldon Clark @ Belfry
Pike County Central @ East Ridge
West Carter @ Fleming County

Here are the 1st round matchups:
Pike County Central/East Ridge Loser @ Russell/Mason County Winner
Pike County Central/East Ridge Winner @ Russell/Mason County Loser
West Carter/Fleming County Loser @ Sheldon Clark/Belfry Winner
West Carter/Fleming County Winner @ Sheldon Clark/Belfry Loser

Here's how most would predict it will turn out:
East Ridge @ Mason County
Pike County Central @ Russell
West Carter @ Sheldon Clark
Fleming County @ Belfry

That would then likely lead to:
Sheldon Clark @ Mason County
Russell @ Belfry

I'm not sure how good Pike County Central and East Ridge are, but Belfry and Sheldon Clark should take their 1st round matchups with West Carter and Fleming County seriously as both teams have some talent this year. It will be a tougher 1st round game than usual.

East Ridge will be no challenge for either Russell or Mason County. Pike Central would best be described as "slightly above average". I think they are a very similar version of what West Carter is this year, improved, but not really on that upper tier.

say if belfry beats sc and gets number 1 seed and either russell or mason is number one seed and sc goes there and beats there number, and belfry takes care of business the 3rd would be at belfry right? then semi would be away, unless its a number 2 seed they play,is that correct?
#14
Very good game but I like the Royals by 2 TD's 24-10

I'm pretty sure that Belfry would have the home field advantage since they were the number one seed.

I'm affraid mason will win this one fairly easy. From what I've heard about mason, have not seen them, but if there good like in the past. They will be hard to stop... for a seem to be confused Russell team.

Good luck Russell!

Regional Finals:
-If Belfry is the #1 seed and they have to play Sheldon Clark, a 2 seed, the game would be at Belfry. Seeding takes precedence at the regional level, if the two teams have the same seed then the odd numbered district team would get the home field advantage this season.

Semi-Finals:
- No matter what the seed of the team advancing, the Semi's will be played on the road of the Region 3 winner. It is an odd numbered year, so odd numbered regions take precedence. Say hypothetically that Belfry or Russell were #1 seeds and won Region 4, and #4 seed Magoffin County wins Region 3... despite it being a 1 seed vs. a 4 seed the game would still be at the home of the Region 3 team.

Hope that makes sense.

Very well put EKU, i couldn't type fast enough to beat you to the punch, but you have it layed out perfectly.

Russell will lose this one by a few td's.

I would like to see Russell just play an error free, sharply played game and stay in the game with the Royals. Have not seen the Royals play this year but have heard many great things about them. Best of luck to both teams!

Russell- 7
Mason County- 28

Go Devils! :devilflam

I actually think Mason County is over rated and doesn't deserve the number 1 spot in 3a.

I think the state semi finals are not determined by seeds I believe they switch every year between the two region winners regardless of seed

They may not deserve the #1 seed, but I think they will earn it,:dontthink on the field come Friday night.

I was talking about the number 1 in all of 3a football. I know you Greenup fans would love for Russell to be pounded by Mason County 35-40 to 0 but I think Russell will be in this one untill the final horn sounds with a chance to win.

You are correct. EKUAlum05 laid it out perfectly a few posts before this one. In the odd years, such as 2009, the odd-numbered regions host the semis.
#27
Travis Jones needs just 86 rushing yards to eclipse the 1,000 yard mark.
#28
ok thanks, i thought they went by seed to in the regional and semi...well look like i will have to go on road to watch belfry 4 thanksgiving if they make it that far...go pirates
#29
Russell will have to play their best game of the year to have a chance. The fumbles and penalties have to be eliminated or Mason County will make it a long night for the Red Devils.
#30
Mason co-28
Russle-14
