-Belfry led 16-8 at halftime
-Valley ties it up in the opening drive of the second QTR
-with 2.4 Seconds on the clock, Zach Norman throws a wheel route down the sideline for 65 yard TD to win the game.
One of the best Football games I've ever watched.

Well, it's hard for a group of freshmen and sophomores to beat the 11 young men on the field as well as the 3 goof balls running up and down it with them. OH, I did see one of them run into the Valley huddle every time a time out was called too, maybe he was their coach??
09-28-2009, 10:51 PM
Congrats to Valley but I dont put too much thought into Frosh and JV games.
09-28-2009, 10:53 PM
Well, basically a few of your JV players will be on varsity next year. I know a few schools who actually start a few freshmen right now!

And actually, that isn't a good thing, unless you really let Frosh and JV scores get to ya.

Congrats Valley.

I'm very proud of our pirates. I can see them progressing each week and that is what JV ball is all about. I see great things in the future for the Pirates. I am a very proud mother of a pirate.

Not getting to me, I just hate to see stupidity cost the kids a game. Um, it's on video and Belfry ran the ball to the 2 or 3 yardline and of course, when they were ready to score, the flags came out. I do believe they called a block in the back. After looking at the film, there was no foul! Bogus call. But, this went on all night so what different were we to expect.
This doesn't teach the boys anything except to throw cheap shots and causes animosity among the players. I credit the referee's for that.

Valley has now beat Belfry 3 straight times, twice at Belfry.
-this win had nothing to do with the refs, stop being sore losers.
Both teams played a great game, but Valley made a great play
Shelby Valley is gonna have a great future with The Norman kid at QB, no one can argue that.

LTP....this is what I mean. Valley fans keep track of frosh and JV wins, but when has SV ever beat Belfry at the varsity level?
No one ever likes to see kids get done wrong. I wasn't there, so I won't comment on it either way. But in the big picture, who's getting the better of these meetings?

Beg to differ. Once @ Belfry and with official referee's who were actually from West Virginia NOT Ky or in our district OR any of our coaches... LOL
Not being a sore loser either. It's just were not as used to losing as you evidently were. Enjoy the win... It won't happen on a Friday night.. OH, I forgot, SV Varsity doesn't play Belfry Varsity does it?

Just pointing out gender differences here, so don't take offense to this.
Mothers are proud, but fathers want to win.

Belfry had 3 different QB's take the field tonight.... I guess it was a good practice!! LOL...

Well im not on here just to take up for my team. BUT After We (SV) beat belfry the first time at Shelby Valley, All i heard was how bad the game was called and stuff. Then everyone say's "Wait until you come to belfry because we will have actual official's at our game and we will blow you guys out." Then we went to belfry and beat you all again. SV and Belfry JV has played 3 times now (at both Shelby Valley AND Belfry), And Shelby Valley came out with the win. So tell me "Belfry Fans", What was the excuse at Belfry? Was their bad calls? You all have a bad night? Didn't play all your jv players? Feel me in with the info when you find out what it is.!

It ain't a big deal, but something doesn't add up in these JV games...
P-burg has lost twice to Belfry (16-32 and 14-24), yet beat SV fairly handily (40-20), with the 2nd Pirate game only one week after the Wildcat game.
What's the deal ??

The Prestonsburg JV game, Valley brought Freshman only.
Their was this same discussion within parents, Valley plays somewhere around 25 JV players, against PBurg they only had around 13 players at the game.
A loss is a loss, but im sure it had something to do with it.

Anyone who takes any JV game serious is kidding thierselves. Once these kids hit the Varsity level then the games will count, a JV game is nothing more than live scrimmage action against another opponent.

During the Sat Game at Pburg I remember one of the back for valley getting hurt, and having to play a TE/lineman at RB for the second half

It is funny how everyone on here bashes SV. Why when SV football has some success you are quick to judge. Bottom line, SV goal as a football rpogram works hard to get their program to where Belfry is. Anytime they beat them at any level it should be recongized.

I agree.
I am a Valley fan and I completely agree that the purpose of JV games are to try to develop your younger talent to be ready to step into the Varsity level team.
I must also say, any time you have a game, the spirit of competition is there and we all want to win. I just hope that in these games, kids can improve and develop and hopefully stay clear of injuries.
Actually this being the third time they have played. I have seen vast improvement in both teams since the start of the year.

I was going to try to stay out of this thread as last night I was a "lil" bit ticked off.... NOT at the kids let me say that first and foremost as they are just that... KIDS!
What gets to me is WHY (even on short notice) would you let one of the referee's on the field who is supposed to be calling a game enter the huddle of SV everytime a time out is called? NOT the coach, I know who he is but the "other" one that was on the field in regular clothing. As I stated before, by not calling a game as you see it and let things go you cause two different things to happen. ONE, you cause a ton of animosity amongst the young men and things start to happen that should not be going on, on the field. TWO, you are teaching these young men nothing! Why even bother putting them on the field if your gonna play "backyard" football? Make the rules up as you go, throw a flag on a whim, or make it so darn obvious Ray Charles could see it? ...........
All I'm saying is if you are going to have someone on the field to administer ground rules of the game, ensure they are followed, and take control when needed, find some that will actually do that! Last nights game was again a joke!!! hh:
OH, and just for the sake of those who will want to argue, when Belfry played SV @ Belfry..... Belfry had more penalty yards than SV so I'd say they got a fair shake there as well!!!

Lol, Coach Varney is probably having nightmares. Is this a best 4 out of seven series this year between the two. I'll show up for the next meeting. I am dying to see a good game. Last two and a half years I have seen two close games.

OK well #1 our coach that was on the field didnt have a flag to throw, he was just on the field to help spot the ball, etc. The official that had casual clothes on....i honestly have no idea but i know that he really is a official because he has done some of the varsity games. So there was 3 officials, and being on SV's side i didnt really recongnize the bad calls, but im sure some was made. But if your team had just as many bad calls on them when you had your own officials....ever think that your team actually deserves more penaltys than sv??:eyeroll:

If you would re-read my post I was NOT implying that your coach did anything wrong. Just because someone "calls a varsity game" does not imply them being a KHSAA official either. AND, if you want to detail that out, your not "official" unless your in dress or proper attire according to KHSAA.org. As far as Belfry deserving more penalties? I just got finished watching the film from Monday night and 2 of the "offsides" that were called on Belfry were Valley's and the "block in the back" on which a Belfry runner had advanced to the 2 or 3 yard line and they were ready to score, wasn't there... Not one penalty that should have been called on that Unless you count the 2 different holds that went on......
I didn't want to be a smart crack and talk smack as I'm an adult and prefer to discuss things in a mature matter. I thought my post stated clearly that I had NO problems what so ever with the coach or the players but felt that BOTH sets of young men were done an injustice by the "officials".... Granted, it's just a JV game but if you don't teach them the right way to do things from heck, PEE WEE /Flag league your wasting your time!!
Sorry if that offended you but I just voiced my opinion, stated the truth as the video shows, and spoke ill of NO one with the exception of the officials.
