If West Carter keeps it that close I will be surprised the closest they have came to Russell was a 24-11 contest in 95.

One thing for sure is the Devil defense has been great, played hard even in the losses, but I was really surprised to see they have only forced 4 fumbles this year. The Russell football page is a great site for stats.

I agree this one may be closer than most think.

luvthegame Wrote:Ok, I did some digging on the Russell football site and come up with some interesting numbers. Russell has struggled to be very consistent on offense for most if not all of the year. Maybe part of it is this -
QB Dehoff - 6'2" 195lbs
Passing
3-19-35yds - 0td's - 3 int's - 3 sacks - efficiency rating = -0.32
Rushing
18 - 75yds - 0td's avg. 3.3/carry
QB Sparks - 6'0" 175lbs (includes last years Varsity stats)
Passing
7-12-190yds - 3td's - 1int - 0 sacks - efficiency rating = 257.17
this year only = 4-6-80yds - 3td's - 1int - 0 sacks rating = 310.33
Rushing
8 - 41yds - 0td's avg. 5.1/carry
this year = 2-6 0td's avg.3.0/carry
Dehoff is a sophomore, Sparks a Senior. From what I heard Sparks has Qb'd this group since they were in middle school. All I heard was Dehoff should get it because of his size and rushing ability. After 5 games I really don't see it? Are they really starting this sophomore because of 2" 20lbs and he looks bigger? I also heard the Spark kid was the QB for them in the passing league thing they do in the summer that won the league. This offense needs consistency to beat Mason and maybe even W.C. plus if they get down again and need to throw who would you want making the throws? The "he is a better runner" thing sure doesn't seem to add up.
Thoughts?
IMO Dehoff is the better QB, I can't believe that there is just a 2" and a 20lb difference. Sparks is a great kid! When this bunch of Sr's was in middle school the QB was Whittaker. He quit after his Freshman year. As far as passing league, I think there were many QB's used and none were a quote starter. I personaly would like to see Jones QB, give K. Smith the ball every now and then to run and I would also like to see Rice run the ball a lot more. Mix it up a little.
As far as developing a QB I think Dehoff is the kid. As a Sr. this kid should be awesome.
This is all a opinion of a fan!
Good luck Russell Friday.
PS... The stats posted on the website are not very reliable. and that is just from memory of watching the game. Wlgc is even worse!

The stats are done by Russell staffers from what I understand and I looked at a couple box scores from the Ashland daily and they all match up. Plus I have been to all but one of the games and have seen that one can throw and one cannot. I have been waiting 5 games to see this big running ability of Dehoff and it just isn't there. Again I ask, given the performance of these two in games this year, why play one with a negative QB efficiency rating over one with a rating off the charts and both are averaging 3yds a carry? Because one may be good down the road and judging by performance so far, that is a big maybe, why would you not play the kid who is performing now?
I won't be able to go to the game this week so please someone post updates on here. I am not sure if I will have radio reception.

Russell should win but it won't be no cake walk. If West Carter plays top notch they could pull the upset.
