Will Clay be the team to beat?
09-22-2009, 11:38 PM
Clay will be the favorite, followed by Harlan County and South Laurel.
09-22-2009, 11:51 PM
Clay should be loaded this year.

I agree. Clay county is loaded for bear if you will. And if Harlan county gets more Productive guard play. ( Much Better shooting) They may give Clay a more competitive game than last year. If the clay team shows up like the one that barely beat Low Ranked Bell County last season. Harlan county could have a celebrated region crown in only there 2nd season. In all probability that will not be the case because The Lady tigers fine coaching staff will not let that happen.
Now Middlesboro still has one of the best backcourts in eastern kentucky. The bottom fell out of their game last year after they lost there Center jiminson to graduation. I Believe she is now playing college Softball. But in my opinion she was a very underated player and could of easily blossomed on the college level in basketball and was the reason middlesboro was so successful because teams had to give her a lot of attention allowing their guards open looks and lanes. To get back to the point Middlesboro has I am told cleared a transfer big from tennesee that will fill the bill if you will. Along with the shoffner girls return to the already solid backcourt look out 13th region. south and north laurel and corbin are always fighters and will get their wins for sure. Pineville Will drop after the transfer of their number two scorer and All state Pitcher taylor chatman to tennesee they will remain competitive with their highly tauted shooting guard along with her speedy teammates that dominated the 13th on the track in relays but without any bigs and a much harder schedule will simply be a flash in the pan compared to last year. Knox central has size underneath but possibly not enough solid guard play but will still make some noise and a few upsets. Bell county will have the best Won loss record it has had in several years and will retain there interm coach teague and award him full time coaching status but he must still shake the remants of the old staff and old ways remaining on log mountain and bring in his own assistants and not those force fed him by the administration vying for his same position. that is a sad situation. I Still like williamsburg to make some waves with their fine senior guard and also i like Harlan city schools which has good size underneath and respectable guard play. Jackson county was picked much higher by experts than i would have and will find itself a mere shadow of the team it was last basketball season.

I Has the time over the summer to
pick up on some of the off season
scrimmages and this is how i would
rate them.
Clay should go easily undefeated in the region.
Corbin and south laurel Were impressive at times.
Harlan county must shoot outside at
a much higher percentage.
Bell county has lost only 2 players
in the last 3 years and players yjat quit returned should be ready to win
case in point they handily beat mboro in over summer scrimmages.
Mboro has since had a impact transfer and important injured player back.
Lynn camp has a few good 3 point shooting guards you best recognize.
Harlan has a good backcourt and Down low players.
I Understand Pineville recentley lost there 2nd leading scorer
And all-state pitcher via transfer but My Money is on the 2nd leading
scorer in the state and their very highly recruited Guard
Chelsea smith to take them to another fine season.
I also like williamsburg and even unheralded whitley county
to have a pretty good season.
The above is not for arguementsake
but merely my picks whether right or wrong
i imagine will have to wait until
the season comes and goes.
But clearly Clay County is the
team to beat for the next few seasons!

Who is the kid Middlesboro got, and from where?
10-02-2009, 04:34 PM
Heard Clay will start Jackson,Center,Phillips,Power Forward, and Fox,small forward this line-up I think that this gives Clay 6FT and above front line.
10-08-2009, 08:55 PM
I think Clay will start out strong, but look for an upset come tourney time.
10-11-2009, 10:30 PM
Clay County could repeat as 13th Region Champ

Word has it that Whitley Co. has picked up a very talented 6'1" 8th grader to play varsity. They may be alot more competitive this year.
