JCRunningMachine#17 Wrote:Great game by both teams, especially the Tomcats! No excuses, they beat us team to team and I don't care what anyone else has to say about it. Well the field was wet, the refs sucked............WAAAAH:ChairHit: Ashland outlayed us and that is that.

Now, for the field goal, I'm not trying to cause controversy but, being the holder, it looked good to me but I also thought it could go either way. I would have hated to be the referee that called it. The ball went over the right upright and I mean DIRECTLY over top of it by about 2-3 feet. But, the game can't just be put on that on field goal. If we had made the first field goal, blocked better, I myself would have run better, maybe we would have won. And congrats to Ashland's D, very fast and hard hitting. Definately the best defense we have played all year. Hopefully we'll meet again in the regional championship in 4 weeks! That would be a classic!

None takin JC it was such a great atmosphere to watch in and it was so great to watch a low penality game. gl next week and hopefully we will meet again in regionals. :wieghts:

both teams played well in this one our defense stepped it up tonight , big win for the cats congrats. were gonna need a big crowd out for the county game gonna be a good one.

I talked to some of the players last night after the game and today. The one thing I have been absolutely amazed with is that EVERYONE of them has mentioned how classy and great sportsmanship the Johnson Central players showed on the field. They were especially impressed by those traits presented by Ron Blume and Blake Johnson. I hope our players returned as much respect and sportsmanship to the Johnson Central players as they showed us. It was a great game and nothing is going to be able to change the outcome now. Hopefully all these fine men will meet again in 4 weeks, same Tomcat Stadium, same Tomcat Time.

Congrats to both star players on breaking records tonight. Holbrook set the all-time passing yardage mark for Ashland and I believe Ron Blume set the single season rushing record for Johnson Central. Both are fine young men and very deserving of these honors.

WHat did Matney storm the field or did he. The announcers were giving him down the road. Did he think the fg was good?
#35
Matney stormed the field because he thought the field goal was good. That is where the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty following the attempt came from. Field goals and Extra Points are nearly impossible to call if they're close from the sidelines, especially at our closed in of the field. There is just a large tree there.

Here is a good link to the game from The Daily Independent.

If for some reason the link doesn't work, go to http://www.dailyindependent.com and become a member, it's free. Then go to the local sports link in the left side column.

Sounds like a very exciting game congratulations to Ashland on the win, and good game by Central I really hope you guys meet up again in the Regional Championship ill be there to watch this one. Matney has a great style he was a run and gun coach and if i know Matney like I think I do he will have them Eagles fired up and ready to play ball, next time around. But good win by the tomcats overall.

I was also impressed with jc's backfield package, with blume and that HUGE #40...I can see where they give teams fits!

im disappointed that JC lost this game...i was hoping to see both JC and Paintsville win their districts.

Who will JC most likely face in the first rd of playoffs?
#41
I would like to see ashland or JC win the region
#42
If JC beats Mason County this week, they will face Madison Southern at Johnson Central. If they lose, they will be traveling to Rockcastle County.
#43
Both of those will be tough opening round matchups.
#44
Coach Hart mentioned on the radio post game show that he is good friends with Madison Southern's head coach. Hart said on the radio that Madison Southern's coach said that Rockcastle was a much better team than Bell County. I haven't seen either team play this season, and I know Bell beat Rock, but I think those were pretty big words with a lot of meaning and must have some sort of truth in it for Madison Southern's coach to say so.

I saw a most interresting statement from an Ashland coach, aka onetoya, inferring his team did not wear mud cleats, or in his play on words "wore the same cleats they wore against Russell". Furthermore that somehow this was, itself, a statement about Central's coach for bringing it up. For your information, my husband was sitting beside the very intelligent parent who first saw, reported and requested our coach to ask the officals about the cleats. Why did he know about the cleats? Do your history on the Virginia state playoffs and Richlands HS and you will get the answer. Now I believe this simple disagreement actually tells more about the character of the parties involved than words or statements there will ever be in this life. What does it say about this coach (not Hart) or even the whole history of tomcat football? While some Ashlanders whale away on Rose Hill, recruiting, matney and anything else that dares to clutter their yellow brick road.Surley no one would dare to complain about a program of such integrity and standards.
And surely a coach would never stoop to the level of lying if it actually happened. For if they actually did this it would mean that all they ever did or said from the private -public debate to life in general would be in question. And vice versa if that dastardly Matney was actually psychologically scheming.

Yeah I didn't totally understand it myself, CTD. I'm pretty intrigued with Ashland being my team to as what this was trying to say.
#52
mscatblue We dont know what you are referring to I am very sorry for the inconnvience but would you care to explain what your tyring to say? I havent read anything in here about someones cleats being wrong kind or w/e.......IF its in here I must of missed it, but could you please explain yourself?

Thanks BGR Staff

Im very sorry football05
I will try to explain on coffee break.I have decided to vent no more and let the other 10 teams that loathe the maroon do the talking. The last statement was actually in responce to several items combined. On another thread the question of private vs public was brought up.The proposition was led by the Ashland AD who became adament when Rose Hill had OJ Mayo move in.We all agree something has to be done about the private schools but everyone knew that Arliss Beach was not from the Blazer school district.Talking about the fox guarding the hen house. And what nerve .The second part was from this thread where a poster posted ..omg..mud cleats
sorry out of time must do a price check
#54
Arliss Beach lived in Westwood, but only ever played one year of football in the westwood system. He played one year of JFL for the Westwood Boys Club. After that he joined the Ashland Independent School District, played in the Ashland JFL system, continued on to play for Verity Middle School, and then Paul Blazer High School. Arliss and his family made a choice at a very young age to place him in the Ashland system, before anyone knew what kind of athlete he would become. But as I said, with the exception of 1 year, Arliss was always a member and player in the Ashland system.
#55
It needs to be mentioned that the MAIN reason Arliss came to Ashland was because FAIRVIEW DID NOT HAVE A FOOTBALL PROGRAM AT THE TIME!!!!!! So there you go, end of the arguement.

And about this whole "mud cleats" business, it is simply not true. Matney asked the officials to go in Ashland's locker room and check our cleats, which they did. Matney again asked them to check the cleats during the coin toss, which they refused to do. It should also be noted that Matney accused Ashland's AD of watering down the field earlier in the day, which is rediculous! I personally went over to the field that morning to make sure all the drains were open, and that the field was draining properly. Matney also had to be restrained by the Ashland Police Dept. for going after the officials while they were in their dressing room. What a loose cannon....

Yeah me too, ya know considering the referee's called it no good, and JC lost.
