running up the score
#1
just looking for your alls opinion, not tryin to stir up trouble or anythingConfusedhh: but since its been a popular topic on here in the past and there are a few games this friday that could result in lopsided scores.....when does a rout turn into running up the score. please dont mention any names or teams, maybe we can get it out of our systems early and just enjoy some football this friday.

4 td's is where I would start putting in my jv's, that seems like a comfortable margin to me.
#3
In the first half:
4 TD's = 1A's/2nd Team
5 TD's = All 2nds/3rds, etc

2nd Half (if up 5 or more TD's)
No Starters . . . .PERIOD
6 TD's NO PASSES/Runs only
7 TD's A gap to A gap runs only
8 TD's Intentional Fumble Plays to Play Defense only (Not meant as an insult--but some teams do this to work on defense and to avoid JV games the next morning)

Anything more is completely out of line.

Great post Kyhill......I agree with ya buddy

I believe if you go pass 30 or 20 and the team has not scored 10 or 20 points then you can take it easy and start subbing. But again thats jut me Wink
#6
i believe if your team is up by 30 or more then u should sub in the JV
#7
An wasy way not to run up the score is to kick field goals. Against Phelps, Pikeville would fair catch a punt then kick the FG on the next play. That keeps from scoring TDs. Which is hard to stop for some teams, when non of the backs can be brought down.
#8
if its 28-0 in first pull some off ur more experienced players then if u score to 35-0 pull all starters and put in jv and then go from there
#9
Personally i dont agree with running up that score, whenever the oposing team cant stop your jv then theres nothing you can do about that situation...

I Don't Agree With Running Up The Score, But Let Me Ask An Opinion Shafter9. P-burg Had No Wins Coming Into The Game! They Had Not Had A Home Game Til This Point Of The Season! It Was Homecoming At The School! P-burg Faced A Yooung And Hurt Mag. Co Team! I Know That Alot Of Jv Players Played, But Still....a Score Into The 80's Vs. The Hornets????? Did That Boost Confidence????? Just Wondering If The Same Opinion About Running Up The Score Was Thought About At That Time??????

My Apologies... I Meant Shafter9 And Blackcat....

I'm pretty sure Prestonsburg played all freshman the entire 2nd half. I'm probably gonna get my head ripped off for saying this, but I believe teams like Prestonsburg and Belfry deserve to beat teams by 50+ (I will agree that 70 points vs. Magoffin co. was a little extreme tho), because it's obvious that we work harder and take football more seriously than teams that miss the playoff's every year. These teams have the exact same amount of time, a weight room, and a football field to get ready for the season, if they dont get as ready as other teams in the district, then that's their fault, and we shouldn't have to give them a break or take it easy on them, just because they haven't sacrificed as much as we have in order to win. Every player from Pburg works as hard as they can every single practice, IDK about Belfry, but i'm sure that applies to them as well. So, I think that if the teams that always missed the playoffs worked as hard and were as determined in practice and in the off-season as the teams that won the district then there is no reason they shouldn't be able to at least compete with them. This is definitely an issue that is higly debatable, so i expect to receive alot of criticizing replies to this; maybe it's because i grew up in Pburg under coach D, but this has been my way of looking at blow-out wins since i can remember.

I don't think you should leave your varsity in if you're winning by a lot.. but if your JV scores on them then I don't consider that running up the score.. because you're not just going to let the other team score
#15
put jv in after 3 tds
#16
Good Post R&B.

I don't understand why people keep bringing this up? It doesn't really bother me, but makes people sound stupid when they honestly have no idea what they are talking about. Prestonsburg has a very talented freshmen class that scored more then half the touchdowns in the game.

The Voice, what do you expect Prestonsburg to do? Start there Freshmen and give the varsity a week off? Kneel the ball three times in a row then punt?
#17
Well how long has it been since we played magoffin? 3 or 4 weeks? hmmmmmm I SAY DROP the whole runnign up the score about pburg/magoffin game or this thread will be CLOSED nuff said

If everyone would read, when MRI started this thread he asked "PLEASE dont bring any names or teams into this thread" and what happened? well you can answer that for me I guess
#19
like football said... don't mention any schools or names.. just try to keep it to answering the question and you can post your opinion about it.. just no names
#20
So noone agrees with my kick FG approach?
#21
Yea I agree BEEF I think more teams should do this if they have a decent kicker IF not punt the ball....everytime or something.....
#22
The only time ive been angry is when i heard about a team keeping defensive starters in a game when they were up over 50 points the first half, and kept starters in opening the second half....wont mention names though
#23
If you're playing a good team and they're 7-0 and is favored, do you pull all of your starters in the 3rd if you're up 28 points????? Obviously you're playing a good team that could catch the all mighty MO and come back against you.

shafter9 Wrote:Personally i dont agree with running up that score, whenever the oposing team cant stop your jv then theres nothing you can do about that situation...

i agree
what else can you do?
#25
Sometimes the talent level of two teams (one bad the other much better) causes the score to be onesided. Bad team needs to work and get better, If the score is ran-up for other reasons then a bad situation usually occurs and no one wins.

Coach Haywood will never let Belfry run the score up on anyone. BUT, I know a few teams that I would love to see Belfry score a little higher on...Good thing I'm not the coach isn't it!:Cheerlead

I would'nt run it up on weak teams, but If I were the coach and we had a chance to blow out some of the Big teams...I probably would.
#28
Well when your 20 or 28 then you should sub, but when you have you jv team in there, play them as hard as the can, because they are your future, and what better time to get that GAME play, and its not to insult the other team by no means, if you do score then on the extra point just down it. but i also thought that the clock was suppose to runn all the time when you do get up by so many.
#29
great quote..what is that from remember the titans?
#30
I personaly dont see any thing wrong with running up the score. If you have made your substitutions and your team is still puttin up the points there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone wants to play, and if they are playing they would not want to try and not score just so people wouldnt thikn they were trying to run teh score up.
