SK had a great game tonight. I think people are starting to believe that we have a program here and now. Last year was not just a run of dumb luck as everyone thought. These kids are for real and want to be in the state final again. The program that Marksberry has built will pay off for years to come. All the work was well worth it Coach Marksberry. The Players, coaches and fans are having a great time.

Miles Simpson is the best football player in the state of Kentucky IMO.

Very impressive win for SK.

And just wait until Miles Simpson is a 100%. He is still limping alot and its noticeable when he tries walking around on the sideline. Once he gets completely healthy I'm not sure if any defense can stop him.

By the way, Coach Brooks flew in on this game in a helicopter and caught a bit of this game before flying off to catch some of the Beechwood/Highlands game. He was most likely there checking up on Simpson and catching some of NKYs finest games this week since he is in town.

Coach Brooks was at the Beechwood/Highlands game to present a signed football to a winner in a drawing from the Doug Pelfrey foundation. They also raffled off a Cris Collinsworth autographed ball as well.

As far as the game, Dixie has historically struggled against really good Rb's and sounds like tonight was no exception. This makes the second year in a row that Simpson has ran all over the Dixie defense. Simpson is going to be scary once he gets back to 100%.

Simon Kenton may be pushing Highlands as the best team in Northern Kentucky.

I believe SK against Highlands would be a great exhibition game. Would be one of the best in this area. I also believe it would be a very close game and could go either way. Beechwood vs. Highlands was not a big blowout. Dixie blew Beechwood out. SK handled Dixie. All equals a good matchup between Highlands and SK. Anyone out that can arrange such a game?

Miles Simpson made up for lost time and Chad Lawrence showed for the second straight week that his time is about to arrive in helping Simon Kenton High School’s football team belt Kenton County rival Dixie Heights on Friday night.

Simpson, one of the state’s leading preseason candidates for Mr. Football who rushed just seven times for 31 yards in Simon Kenton’s opener against Newport Central Catholic due to an ankle injury, rushed for 186 yards and scored five touchdowns and Lawrence threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 119 yards as the Pioneers, ranked No. 2 in the Enquirer area coaches poll, rolled to a 49-28 win before an overflow crowd that included University of Kentucky coach Rich Brooks for a quarter in Independence.

Lawrence’s performance comes on the heels of the junior passing for 141 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for a team-high 87 in last week’s 29-7 win

SK is good but not in the same class as Highlands. We'd see a similar result as the Ryle/Highlands game if these two met.

Not so fast. I genearlly agree with you, but I think that an SK/HHS match-up would look different than the Ryle match-up. SK is much more disciplined, athletic and they do have the star caliber player that can match the Birds star player. I think SK would make a much better opponent, and would make this a tough game for the Birds. Not saying the Pioneers would win, but it would be a better match-up than Ryle. A team that has been to the state finals, will be much more composed than the inexperienced Raiders.

Possibly, but I don't think SK's defense would be able to stop Highlands offense. If anything, we'd see a shoot out if these two met. Highlands overall team speed would be the difference though.

Highlands does not depend on Collingsworth and could win without him, SK would have a difficult time winning without Simpson. Getting blownout in the state finals does not make SK more composed than Ryle in my opinion. I believe it would be very similar to the HHS/Ryle game (close 1st half and then HHS takes control in second half. This would have made a good game this year, too bad we won't see it.

I think SK showed that they can win without Simpson. The NCC game Sinmpson was not a key player in this game. (He had seven carries) The neers have other talent that can fill his shoes. The defensive line is strong and can stop Highlands. SK depends on Simpson they same way Highlands depends on Collingsworth. Getting blown out in the state game did make this team more composed and disciplined and they will show the na sayers the same they showed them last season.

neefan beat me to it and I agree, SK can win without Simpson as well. Though you are right, HHS is not completely dependent on AC, but AC plays the same roll as Miles does this year for SK. They are the big play guys. SK has really impressed me as they have not yet relied on just Miles to set the tone for them. That is different than las year, where Miles literally put the team on his shoulders from the Campbell County game on. This is a different Pioneer club than last year. So I do not agree with your assessment of SK needing Miles more than HHS needs AC, they have already proved that they haven't.

Playing NCC without him is different than playing Highlands, X, Trinity, ect. without him. And Highlands does not need him to win; But , it is very nice to have him. I feel SK would hurt more without Simpson, than Highlands without Collingsworth. I also wonder if you have seen Highlands play ( I have seen SK play 2 times last year and 1 time this year)? I can tell you that SK would not stop Highlands Offense. You might slow it down a little, but not stop it. If SK was to beat HHS, I believe you would have to put up alot of points on the board. SK would score on HHS defense, but I just do not believe there O could outscore Highlands O. I still believe you would see a close first half and then Highlands would pull away in second half ( with better overall team talent and better coaching adjustments at half time.).
