Who would win?
#1
I don't know much about how good these teams were, but I looked for the best teams in the past 11 years of our top 4 teams in the mountain region and wondered who would win.

2002 Breathitt County (15-0) Class AA state champions. Scored 746 points and was scored against 167 points.

2004 Belfry (14-1) Class AA state champions. Only loss was to an out-of-state team. Scored 574 points and was scored against 174 points.

2006 Johnson Central (13-1) Only loss was in playoffs against state champion Covington Catholic. Scored 567 points and was scored against 151 points.

2008 Bell County (15-0) Class AAAA state champions. Scored 644 points and scored against 70 points.

Sorry if I left a team out. I thought these were the best teams in the past 11 years of their school's history.

I saw the 06 JC team and they were very good

I've seen them all play and I'll take the '04 Belfry team. That team was amazing!

Did not get a chance to observe any of these teams. Being a Defensive minded entity i would vote for Bell! If you hold the score down that low against 15 teams then that is all the proof you need.. It is so obvious to me. Great topic Deathstar80!

I personally had to vote for the 2002 Breathitt Bobcats. They were the only team among these four that won their state championship handily. (Breathitt - 51, Corbin - 0) The only close game they had was against Russell (went 11-3 that year), Breathitt - 28, Russell - 27 in overtime. Another argument for Breathitt County is that they had the best offense among these four teams.

Bell County also went defeated, but they played close games against Knox Central, Boyle County, and Bullitt East.
#6
How did these teams fare in the final state rankings? Thats a good indication of the competition level that each played in that given year, regardless of their end of season accomplisments or losses.
#7
With all due respect to the other teams this one isn't close. That 2004 Belfry team was a notch above everyone else.

The defensive stat means more than offense IMO. Holding their opponnents to 70 total points for the entire season is unreal. I don't care what team it is. It will be a long time before we see that again.

We only play for titles in Breathitt. The end result is what matters. You can beat EVERYONE and lose the last one and you aint done nothing.

To be totally honest, in defense of Belfry, I would figure that Coach Haywood pulled some starters on MANY games to have allowed that many points period. He isn't about running the other teams off the field and when he gets a lead that he is secure with, he takes his starters out and lets the underclassmen in. SO, with that being said, I'd take a guess and say that the majority of the points scored on Belfry that year were scored NOT on the starting D....

2004 was a GREAT year for Belfry football!!

I tried to find rankings, but I couldn't. If anyone else think they can find these rankings, I would appreciate it.

I saw the 06 JC team also, and I know that they had a fullback that didn't run for big yardage, but guaranteed them 5-7 yards every attempt. Also, their offensive line was great with a great running back.

Of course, I heard a lot of great things from the 04 Belfry Pirates. I heard they had an amazing running back.

And also, you have all of these people saying that the Bell County Bobcats are great. I haven't seen them, but I suppose if their defense only allows 70 points all year, they must be pretty good.

they was all good but have to go with belfry, i agree that most points wasnt scored on the starting defence

Try two amazing RB's, Doug Howard and David Jones.

I would say Breathitt Co. in 2002 #1 was as good as it gets, offensively and defensively,Justin Haddix and his recievers(Johnson,Barnett,Thomas and Riley) just played with most teams (Justin Haddix went on to have a very good 4 yrs at WKU,he started as true freshman)and on defense they were strong, quick and would get at you fast and hard,Then Bell Co.#2 and then Belfry #3 ..remember the "MUD BOWL at Belfry in 2002" Bobcats beat Belfry at their own game in mud, LOL... so yes i have to go with 2002 Breathitt Co.Bobcats...JMO

If I remember correctly, didn't Belfry throw an interception inside their own 10. I remember watching that game. Of course, i was in fifth grade then.

Bell would have to be #1. Too much power.
And the defensive line would not only overpower you but they would out quick you. And points scored on, that will not be matched anytime soon.

Didn't one of those players go to a Division I school?

No. Should have.

David Jones, played at UK and I do believe they are D1TongueirateSho

Dave went on to a great career at UK and Doug chose not to attend Marshall or WKU in favor of staying close to home. He then had a serious back injury at Pikeville College and hung it up.

Try two Interceptions returned for TD's in the final 2 minutes of the game.

Belfry was down 6-0 with 2 minutes left with the ball and the chance to drive for the win.

My vote would go for the 04 Belfry Pirates. Two great running backs in Jones and Howard. I recall Jones having a pretty good game with some nice runs against Owensboro Catholic in the championship.

Look at this link about David Jones -> http://www.williamsondailynews.com/pages/full_story?article-It%E2%80%99s%20official-Ravens%20announce%20-signing%20of%20-former%20Belfry%20and%20UK%20alum%20David%20Jones%20=&page_label=home&id=2533900-It%E2%80%99s+official-Ravens+announce+-signing+of+-former+Belfry+and+UK+alum+David+Jones&widget=push&instance=secondary_sports_left_column&open=&

Looks like he's going to play in the NFL for the Ravens.

You still think Bell County could beat Belfry with their NFL player?
#29
Everyone seems to be assuming that Bell Co. kept there starters in after they had a comfortable lead. That seventy points was also attributed to the efforts of there second string!

Actually Jones and Howard EACH ran for over 200 yards in that game, not to mention FB G Childress finished just shy of the century mark himself. The Pirates had over 500 yards rushing on the state's biggest scene.
