ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- A Georgia man who spent a year in jail for nonpayment of child support -- despite the fact he has no children -- has been cleared of the debt, his attorney said Tuesday.

This just shows how messed up the system really is.
That female should have to spend a year in jail at least and repay him all of the money he had paid her and repay him for the time he was not able to work for being locked up.

He likely will recieve no kind of anything back from the judicial system or the government. Who needs to be jailed is the woman. It is her responsibilty to bring these things to front. IMO a woman who would conceal any child from the identity of its true father is a criminal. She let this man's life rot away and be tormented. Where is her day of justice. Heck what if the child had some kinda of genetic disease that only could be helped by revealing the true father's identity. Would she have done the right thing then. She already made the man suffer and the child. What if the real father would have wanted to know his child? How did she know that he wasn't in Iraq laying face down in the sand with a bullett in the back of his head!

This is awful!!! I agree 100% that if a man is PROVEN to be the father of a child, then they should have to reimburse the state for any said child care or monies the custodial parent received. PROVEN being the key word.... BEFORE they make the man/woman pay restitution, they should do a DNA themselves (department of child support services) to ensure they are not doing another person the way this man was done. IMHO, I feel they should find the real father and they should be held responsible AS should the mother who neglected to inform the real father of his responbilities! This man should be given back every dime he has paid and MORE!

this is amazing, this tells you........... well i dont know what this tells you, its crazy, some prosecutor was so worried about winning a case he convicted a inocent man,
Frank Hatley, 50, spent 13 months in jail for being a deadbeat dad before his release last month. A judge ordered him jailed in June 2008 for failing to support his "son" -- a child who DNA tests proved was not fathered by Hatley.
Deadbeat dad? wow nice choice of words
