Per ESPN, Bud Selieg is contemplating uplifting the lifetime ban on Pete Rose which would make him eligible for Cooperstown, but would need to publicly apologize fot betting on baseball and would not be allowed to manage.

Pete has longed deserved to be in the Hall of Fame because lets face it he is the all time hits leader. I however feel that he should never to be allowed to manage or even be a bench coach with any team, major or minor league. What he did was wrong but Selig needs to do the right thing and lift the ban so he can be admitted to the HOF.

Yes, get him back in so he can go to Copperstown. Then maybe later they'll let him coach. Baby steps.

The thing is if the players will vote for him to be in the Hall. Many I fear will not.

Players don't have a vote. Sports writer's vote on players going into the HOF.

My day was made when I turned on ESPN and saw this! Also, behind him are Jim Rice and Ozzie Newsome, along with aforementioned Hank Aaron.

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. - Pete Rose, who received a lifetime ban 20 years ago for betting on baseball, deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, former home-run king Hank Aaron said.
"I would certainly like to see him in," Aaron said. "He belongs in, really. His career is one that he needs to be right here in the middle of all of this."
Rose, in Cooperstown signing autographs over the weekend but not in attendance at the Hall of Fame ceremony for Rickey Henderson, Jim Rice and veterans committee selection Joe Gordon, admitted in 2002 to Commissioner Bud Selig that he bet on baseball. Selig said Rose's case still is under review.
"The Pete Rose thing is different than steroids," Aaron said. "If I had been Pete, I think I would have asked for forgiveness many, many years ago."
The New York Daily News, also citing Aaron's support for Rose, reports that Selig is "seriously considering'' reinstating Rose.
The Daily News said that at a meeting of the Hall of Fame's board of directors Saturday, Joe Morgan and Frank Robinson, former Rose teammates, also said they'd like to see Selig reinstate Rose.

Has he not already publicly apologized? I mean, the guy sells autographed baseballs on his website that say, "I'm sorry I bet on baseball."

Ridiculous that they have kept him out this long. If Selig passes this, I will be a Selig fan FOREVER! I wish they would push for Shoeless Joe too!

Lets just be honest about it though, I doubt that Pete is truely sorry for anything that he has ever done in his entire life, (except for when he got caught). If the truth be known, I would say that those balls command a premium price, and that is the motive.

I love Pete Rose the player, despise Pete Rose the person.
Should he be in the Hall of Fame?................Yeah.

I agree with this post 100%. It reflects my opinion exactly. Why is it that baseball players more than other athletes have a harder time coming clean when they did something wrong. The longer you keep dragging the baggage on, the less forgiving people are. Roger Clemens needs to admit to using steroids.

 I agree. As a player, he was one of my favorites. I had a card with him sliding face first. It had the bubble gum stain on it, if that tells you long ago that was.

You may be thinking of the Heisman, but for Baseball HOF, it is 100%the Baseball Writers Association of America. It's a committee of approximately 200-225 with voting rights who get to vote. There is a veterans committee that has former players (not necesarily HOF members) writers and managers who vote for candidates who have exceeded the 15 year opportunity to be on a ballot.

It wasnât long ago â only about 25 years, a drop in the bucket for a franchise that goes back 140 â that Pete Rose was sliding into third base head-first at Riverfront Stadium during his first game back as a Red on Aug. 17, 1984. Anybody who was there to see the return of Rose, who hadnât played for the Reds since 1978, never will forget it.
But the Hit King had nothing to say about that on Tuesday when asked about it by a reporter who visited Roseâs autographing session in Cold Spring
Rose, who later on Tuesday attended the Redsâ game against the San Diego Padres at Great American Ball Park, remained fairly close-mouthed when asked about several current baseball topics.
What about Ron Santo as a possible Hall of Famer? Last December, Santo received 61 percent of the vote â 14 percent shy of the requirement for enshrinement â from the 65 surviving Hall of Famers who compose the veterans committee. He was the top vote-getter for the group, which hasnât elected anybody in four biennial ballots since it was handed the vote eight years ago.
Rose just shook his head, as if to say he had no thoughts on that

No need to read any further, folks. This is THE best Pete Rose post of all time. Rose was a great player (and I wasnt a fan of Pete the player, although he was GREAT), but Pete the person is a grade A *******.

Your kidding, they put bubble gum in baseball cards??? The next thing your going to tell me is they only had like one brand or something. At your age I figured you would've had Baseball stones with pictures of caveman on them.
