Good ratings but I would have South Floyd at number 3 and Allen Central at number 4. I have watched most of these teams play and with the exception of Belfry, they play a better brand of volleyball in the Floyd County schools.

Betsy Layne a little low, huh? In my opinion they are right up there with Belfry. From what I've heard from someone close to the program, this summer is going very well for the Bobcats. Players like Taylor Watkins and Aurdi should have breakout seasons. Both are two of the best blockers the 15th Region has to offer.

It should be an exciting season for 15th Region Volleyball in 2009.

Good luck to all teams!

I apologise. After looking at last year's schedule, I have changed my top 4 rankings.

1. Belfry
2. Betsy Layne
3. South Floyd
4. Johnson Central

I believe Allen Central is better than Johnson Central.

Not after graduating Brittany Hodge, Brittany & Tiffany Clark, Kimbo Blevins, and others. Allen Central may struggle a bit this upcoming year, but I wish them nothing but the best.

Who is their setter and how long has she been with the team?

the only returning setter they have is leigh williams. she will be a junior.
#11
Koko Martin was the setter that graduated.
Leigh started varsity last year and is a very strong setter.
Her & Kelsey Jones are AC's best players.
All though Leigh will do great as the starting setter, I don't see Allen Central being as strong as they usually are.

I think Betsy Layne will do great. They still have both their middles, who are both strong blockers, and they also have a setter & an outside from last year.

South Floyd didn't lose much, so they might really surprise some people & be back on top this year.
#12
I think JCHS may also do better than expected. They have some strong hitters and blockers returning to front line.
#13
Based on past performance I can see that ranking for Phelps but look for them to move up.They are a young team and have played together since jr.high, and have only 1 senior. With last years team they split with ER & PC,barely losing to Pburg in the all "A". They are a much improved team this year,I see them around 6th or 7th pretty quick. Good luck to all the teams this year, looking forward to a great season.
#14
Belfry has won the 15th region all six times since 2003 when 16 regions were implanted, can anyone stop them from winning a seventh time?
#15
I think Betsy Layne is going to make them work hard for another regional title.
#16
I personally feel like Piarist is too low on the list.
They've already beaten Prestonsburg, and put up a good fight against South Floyd and Betsy Layne

25-8 against betsy lane is not a good fight

25-23 is. Considering its only in its third year, and the team has 11 players theyre impressive.
#19
Betsy Layne is definitely #! in the region now after their showing this weekend.

Pikeville and Belfry are both better than Johnson Central.

Belfry is by far a better team than what you are giving them credit for. They haven't played a game yet with all of their starters together. They will still be the team to beat in the region......
#23
Bottom 3 of my selections are playing to be in the top 4 right now.
#24
Belfry has to prove themselves this year. You don't get an automatic free pass due to past successes

Thought it would be interesting to go back and look at the pre-season predictions on this eve of the 15th Region Volleyball Tournament. Allen Central barely penetrated the top five and in some predictions were at #6 or lower. They were not even expected to finish in the District Tournament, let alone win it. It is understandable why these predictions were made because Allen Central lost 8 seniors. However, now it is believed that should Allen Central lose, it would be a huge upset. Based on the predictions, Allen Central is the underdog in this tournament and Allen Central should not even be playing in the Region, let alone the championship match. Now the predictions are 'whoever has the most desire will win.' The AC girls have a lot of desire or they would not be in the championship match against all odds and predictions. Betsy Layne has a great team and played the match of their lives against Belfry and deserved to win. They were predicted to be right up there with Belfry and they are. Everyone should agree, the toughest district in the 15th Region is definitely the 54th when it comes to volleyball. This is history in the making and either way, Floyd County will have a representative at the State Tournament. Best of luck to both teams - both teams are winners.

Thats because those rankings were for the 2009 (last yr.) season.......

I'll start a new thread in a little bit for the pre-season rankings for the 2010 (upcoming yr.) season.

Can't wait for the new rankings Smile
