Shooting at University Commons
#1
There were some scary moments at a Lexington apartment complex Wednesday afternoon, when police say a man they were trying to arrest shot himself.
It happened at the University Commons apartments off Red Mile Road. Buildings in the complex had to be evacuated.

Right before 1:00pm, the Marshall Task Force attempted to arrest a fugitive. They say a tip led them to the apartment complex.

The man was apparently staying in the apartment with three female students that he knew. Police say as they entered the apartment they heard a single gunshot.

Police say the man shot himself. No police officers were hurt. Police say officers never fired or pulled guns and that it was a self inflicted wound. The man later died at the hospital.

The coroner has not released the man's name, but close friends tell 27 NEWSFIRST that his name is Everette Morton.

Wow! That is crazy 15th, someone a tragedy no matter how far away always manages to find someway to tie itself way back to the mountains. Hope that your niece isn't too shaken up by this.

That's sad to hear but also very scary considering that you and Balla were there over the summer...

I'm glad our niece wasn't over, it's untelling what she would have done. One time this summer she let these guys see her phone and they tried to get her to give them a ride, you know what I'm talking about 15th? I worry about her sometimes..lol...I'm just glad we weren't there when it happened

I remember you telling me about that Balla...that was crazy...

Yea.. she doesn't understand they could kidnap her.. I worry about her too

As long as she doesn't move to New York like she wants to we'll be ok!

I have about 10 friends that live there now. We all go to UK, but from what they have said, this year UC is full of a bunch of sketchy characters. I remember last year it was just beer bongs and people having parties on their front porches, this year everyone is staying inside, and people's car's are being vandalized and broken into. Don't know what happened to the place.

well it could have been real bad. the amn could have shot a cop or one of those female students.

I lived at University Commons for 1 semester...my worse semester GPA wise. I never go over there anymore, finally grew out of the party stage but I have been there several times since I moved out to parties. 2 or 3 years ago UC was party central for UK but every party but get busted by the Cops...luckily I knew some girls that lived at The Huntington Apartments right next door so we would just always run over there. I have also heard that UC has been taken over by sketchy characters. There are numerous apartment complexes and a few new complexes that are in that general area that I would defintely rather live at....I have seen some crazy things happen at UC.
