Size won't be the problem next year, speed will. Alex Griffith is up to 6'2 225 pounds. He has good hands and will probably move to TE. Garner, Key, Crowe and some of the freshmen are well over 200 pounds. The past couple of classes have been quite heavy on the lineman/position player types, and very thin on skill players.
Speed and backfield experience will be the problem. My guess is that Coach Derossett will either line up and go to the "3 yards and a cloud of dust" offense, try to chew up the clock, and shorten the game...OR...he could line up 3-5 receivers and throw it all over the field with a West Coast style attack. That may fit best with Burchett's skill set.
McKinney was a great grade school RB, but hasn't had hardly any carries in 4 years.
Defense should be solid, but not spectacular.
No matter how big or fast your team is, you will always find a team bigger or faster. The key is how you play to your strengths and away from the opposing team's.
The only problem now is trying to figure out what the strength of the Blackcats will be next year.

BlackcatAlum Wrote:From what I've been told two big guys have come out for the team. Both played their freshman season, both are over 6', both weight over 240, and their both very stout.
Hopefully they'll stick with it because the line will need all the help they can get.
Good to hear.

What about Joseph Jammerson? Are they still going to play him at Wide-out? This kid is huge and very quick. And I have heard that he had bulked up big time. Not sure although.

Jamerson is the lone speed threat on the team. Probably goes about 6'4 now, but has been prone to injury. He has had a couple of concussions, so that is a concern...

I heard about his concussions. Hasn't he had 4?

Joseph should have a bust out season this year. He's super fast and extremely athletic.
But like mentioned above, he is injury prone, so hopefully he'll stay injury free this upcoming season and throughout the rest of this football career.

I seen Joseph tonight and he has bulked up a bit. He does stand about 6'4, as someone else said.
He may Prestonsburg's biggest offensive threat next season.

Yes the blackcats did lose alot of seniors but so did every other team. The players that will return are just as skilled as the ones we lost. Most of these players have been a vital part of this team since their sophomore year where as Mckinney started on defense as a freshman. So yes we have talent. Give the players an opportunity and push them up with praise instead of down with pessimistic blogs. Go out there blackcats and show everyone what you and I already know. YOU ARE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!

Who's downing them?
Everyone knows that Prestonsburg is not going to be nearly as good as they where last year, but that doesn't mean that we get on this "pessimistic blog" and talk about them as if they are world-beaters.
Whether you realize it or not, this will be a rebuilding year for the Blackcats because you cannot expect certain players to play several different positions (like Austin McKinney) and expect in-coming freshman to make an impact because its not going to happen. I'm in no way saying that the Blackcats will struggle to win, but I do not expect them to be as good as they where last year because Prestonsburg is graduating some of the better players we've seen in the past decade.
I'm not attacking your opinion, I'm just stating mine.

I'm not saying that they cannot be as good as those players that are going to be graduating, but some of those players where very gifted athletes and that type of talent doesn't come around very often. Their are some very gifted athletes coming up this season, but majority lack experience and with the schedule Prestonsburg is playing they are going to hit some bumps while on that road.
Trust me I know players get on here and read whats said about them, I don't have a problem with that, but I'm not going to get on here and make them out to be something their not. I know a lot of them and if I say something out of the way that they don't appreciate than they can let me know about. But if they cannot handle a small-dose of constructive criticism then I feel for them when the real world takes their feet out from under them.
I just pray that the players stay injury free and perform up to their capabilities.

Very well posted. Kids can use that criticism to work harder and get better. Some kids may take it to heart but others look as if they got to get better and that is the way to look at things. I wish Prestonsburg the best next season but as much talent as they lost its going to be very hard. But with the coach they have they will be just fine.

I was told today that Bryson Williams will not be at Prestonsburg next season as a Freshman. Is there any truth to this rumor?

Prestonsburg beat both Pikeville & Sheldon Clark yesterday at Josh Francis Field, even without Joseph Jamerson.

I've heard something about him going to Texas, but canoeman would know before anyone else would and he says Bryson is staying, so I believe him.
I hope to god that he does stay, because having him at RB, Jamerson at WR, and Crisp at QB equals up to one of the best teams in 2A as the Blackcats will be very explosive. All in good time though as it will probably be 2-3 years before they really blossom.

This is what I herd after the passing camp last night. I don't know if there is any truth to it but if Williams dosn't come to Pburg we lose a major piece to the puzzle.
