Muggsy Bogues was a 27.8% 3 pt shooter for his career by the way, and only hit 106 3's in his 15 year career. Hardly one of NBA's great 3 pt shooters

Yes I agree. Also, I lived in Charlotte for 8 years while Muggsy played for the Hornets and went to over 40 games (most were during Muggsy's time there) and so I watched him plenty. He was a distributor, not really a 3 point shooter. Not to say he couldn't hit the 3, but someone said he was one of the NBA's great 3 point shooters. I wouldn't go that far. Plus, Muggsy was a PG and Lofton is a SG. Can you see Chris Lofton trying to guard some of the 2's in the NBA such as Kobe, D wade, Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, and so on. Like I said, he was one of my favorite players to watch in college, and loved to watch him shoot, but his size kills him, plus his speed isn't enough to keep up with most NBA players. I know he is a hometown boy, but you can't let what we want to happen get in the way of reality. I agree 100 percent with Stardust, he will probably find a spot somewhere to play about 5 minutes a game, but that would be the most probably.

I never said Mugsey was one of the best 3pt shooters every in the NBA I said he is one of the best PGs ever to play in the NBA. It wasnt just his speed he saw the floor really well as does Lofton. There are many players in the NBA right now that are up the food chain who are right at Loftens speed. Ray Allen is getting up in age and his first step is not what it was 5 years ago. Yes he can still make plays but that is because the Celts spread the floor really well set extremly good high ball screens which frees Allen up. When you watch the Celts most of Allens points come from A) a high ball screen, B) transition or C) uncontested shots. Allen is my fav player in the NBA, but I truthfully believe Lofton could guard him and many of the other 2s in the NBA. Lets be honest bringing Kobe and D Wade into this conversation is hardly relevant because not many people in the NBA can guard thos two. Even if you contest one of their shots it goes in 75 percent of the time. But I do agree he is not going to go in as a starter but he would be a solid role player and with time he could move up, we have saw many players over the year who were not highly saught step in and make a major impact. JJ may not score many points BUT DEFENSIVLY he is solid which he worked on once he entered the NBA he is not very quick but he reads the head and ball fakes, talks to his T-Mates and hedges on screens. That is what makes a good defensive player not speed.

Speed doesn't make a good defensive player? I agree you have to have knowledge to play defense but if you can't keep up with the offensive player you are screwed, so that is a horrible statement. And muggsy was a great PG but Lofton is going to be brought in wherever he goes as a shooter, not to play pg and run a team. You say he can guard most 2's? Look at any starting 2 guard just about in the NBA is at least around 6'5 or taller. Any smart coach would just post Lofton up EVERY SINGLE time down the floor because he is a lot shorter and nowhere near as strong as most 2 guards either. Like I said before, he has the talent and skills to play in the NBA easily, but his size and quickness is what kills him. I agree with someone who previously said he could be picked up by someone and used for late game situations to shoot, but I highly doubt he will ever be in a constant rotation of any NBA team. Nothing against Lofton, I have said it more than once that he was one of my favorite players to watch in college, but he just isn't big enough or quick enough to be a solid NBA player.

Great post - I think you are dead on with your observation about defending the 2's in the league. With lack of size and speed, he would be a liability on defense. But as a Specialist, he may have a spot on a roster. He could give a team 5 minutes when they need a shooter. The role he would play for a team is to come in and possibly shoot them back into a blowout.
