Holmes v Princeton (OH) is a go..
#1
It appears the cross-river game area fans were clamoring for last basketball season will come to fruition in 2009.

David Henley, coach of defending Kentucky boys' basketball team Holmes, confirmed today that his team will play Ohio Division I state runner-up Princeton on FOX-19 next year.

"The contracts haven't been signed yet, but we're going to play Princeton on Wednesday, Jan. 6," he said. "We haven't decided if it will be at Holmes or Princeton yet."

Henley said the game will start at 6 p.m.

"We had talked last summer about playing (during the 2008-09 season)," Henley said. "It just didn't work out. This time we both had spots on our schedule."

Holmes, ranked No. 1 in the Enquirer Northern Kentucky coaches' poll most of last season, returns three starters: Ricardo Johnson, Jeremiah Johnson and Elijah Pittman. Princeton, ranked No. 1 in the Enquirer Division I city coaches' poll all last season, returns two starters: Ohio State recruit Jordan Sibert and LSU baseball recruit Marcus Davis.

This is a big time match up...Ricardo Johnson v Jordan Sibert is well worth the price of admission.

Holmes schedule is ridiculous next year:

King of the Bluegrass
Mason Co Classic
Kentucky Tennessee Shootout @ Warren Central
Joe. B Hall Kentucky Preps Classic @ Montgomery Co
Lloyd Invitational

and now they have regular season games against Princeton (OH) AND Warren Central.

I'd love to see them against either Scott Co or Eastern as well during the regular season. They may see Eastern in the KOB.

Of all the tournaments you've mentioned above the only tough one is the KOB.

What teams are in the:

Lloyd Invitational

Holmes has some really tough games scheduled. That's what it takes if you want to compete for a state title.

Mason Co Classic will just be a one game showcase where Holmes plays Mason Co.

Kentucky-Tennessee Shootout @ Warren Central is a one game showcase against a team from Memphis.

Joe. B. Hall Kentucky Preps Classic @ Montgomery Co is another one game showcase...teams that participated in it last year were Anderson Co, Elliott Co, J'town, Madison Central, Manual, and Montgomery Co. Pretty sure this is where Holmes will play Warren Central.

Lloyd Invitational is a 4 day tournament that Holmes has won the past two years. Teams involved last year were Holmes, Conner, Seneca, Henderson Co, Holy Cross (Cov.), Newport, Bullitt East, Grant Co, Deming, Bourbon Co, Oldham Co, Walton Verona, Mullenberg South, Villa Madonna and Silver Grove. The tournament field is supposed to be much more competitive this year though since the tourney is more established now.

And of all of the things I listed, only the Lloyd Invitational is an actual tournament. All of the other ones are one game showcases against a top team.

Mason will not be a top team next year, they will be good, just not a top team. What does the team from Memphis have? Warren Central will have a good team, but will be challenged to get out of their region now by Bowling Green. This should be a good matchup.

If that is the teams in the Loyd tourney, it has some very week teams.

Also heard that Jordan Sibert was hurt, and may not be playing by that game. If so Holmes will roll in this matchup as they should in the Loyd tourney. Tuff tourney and most competition I have seen is KOB tourney that Holmes is in.

I think GRC will be favored to win the 10th but Mason will easily be a top 20 team and better than you're giving them credit for. Gilbert, Setty, Pawsatt, and Barner make up a pretty solid nucleus.

Not sure who the team is from Memphis but they wouldn't be coming to KY to play Holmes if they weren't a solid team.

As I stated before, the Lloyd tournament should have a better field of teams this year since it is a more established tournament now. They were able to get Seneca (top 20 majority of the season), Henderson Co (2nd region runner up), and some decent teams such as Conner, Newport, Holy Cross (Cov) and Bullitt East this past year. I'd expect the field to be more competitive top to bottom.

KOB is hands down the best tournament they'll play in with the best competition but their classic/invitational schedule is pretty solid as well. It's still up in the air whether or not Sibert will play that game or if he'll even be at Princeton next year, but it beats playing a NKY team. Princeton next year with or without Sibert would still be a top 20 team in KY.

Could this be the team from Memphis? They are going to be in the KOB.

MEMPHIS CENTRAL (TN)
6’3” Sr Tim Peete
5’9” Sr Masceo Harmon
6’7” Soph Jarnell Stokes

I don't think it's them. Memphis is loaded with talented teams. Some of the possibilities that I can think of other than Central are:

White Station, Raleigh-Egypt, Melrose, Ridgeway, Craigmont, Southwind, Washington, Manassas, and Kirby.

It will likely be one of those teams.

Melrose has a player, Chris Jones that really turned the head of Bob Gibbons this weekend in the TOC. Also they have forward Adonis Thomas, who’s considered one of the top players in the Class of 2011.

I'd really like to see Holmes play Memphis White Station. They have probably the best point guard in the country for the c/o 2010 in Joe Jackson.

This should be a heck of a game. Holmes is stacking their schedule for another tourney run.

Update from Ryan Ernst blog:

The Princeton-Holmes boys' basketball game scheduled for next season will be played at Holmes, according to Bulldogs coach David Henley.

Holmes, the defending Kentucky state champion, will play host to defending Division I state runner-up Princeton at 6 p.m. on Jan. 6 (a Wednesday) at Evans Fieldhouse. The game will be televised live on Fox-19.

I know that there is an attempt to put this at NKU's Bank of Kentucky Center and possibly put together a package of games.

Similar to what they did with the Bluegrass-Buckeye Classic?

I think it might be hard to do that on a Wednesday night...Holmes gym should be more than big enough to host a game between these two...especially with the game being televised live on Fox 19.

It's a possibility to do a double header with Cincinnati Moeller and another NKY team.

That wouldn't be a bad idea...maybe have Highlands v Moeller at 6 and then push the Holmes-Princeton game to 7:30?

When you have a pair of showcase talents, you get the invites to premiere events.

Good to know that they are being competitive.
